Anyone Care to Help with Anime Recommendations?

I have always had a an interest in anime although I can’t say I’m deep into it. I have been trying to find some new series but I feel I run into a lot really cheesy shows that I can’t watch for more than five minutes. I am a big fan of Full Metal Alchemist, The original Ghost in Shell series from the 80’s, Attack on Titan, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Berserk, Perfect Blue, Cowboy Bebop, Death Note as well as films like Akira, Princess Mononoke, Grave of he Fireflies and Nausicaa Valley of the Wind.

Anyone have any suggestions for animes I could enjoy?

Hi MississippiBanana, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

You might also find our [Recommendation Wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/wiki/recommendations) or [daily thread](/r/anime/search?q=flair%3Adaily&restrict_sr=on&sort=new&t=week) helpful.

Hells paradise for samurai fantasy or Golden Kamuy for historical grounded fiction. You would probably like Vinland Saga too.

Thanks 😊

Summertime Rendering if you enjoy time travel, darma mystery action.

Darwin Incident Currently Airing it's little different not your cliche Anime trops.

Isekai if you enjoy then Mushoku Tensei one of the best out there.

Black Lagoon, Gangsta, and Full Metal Panic! Might interest you. For an older mecha title maybe Gundam Wing/ GW Endless Waltz. It seems you like old stuff so Kiki’s delivery service, howls moving castle, princess Mononoke, slightly newer Your Name. My overall favorite Violet Evergarden although it has a watch order. And also be prepared to cry like a bitch multiple times, esp if you were ever in the military. I also enjoyed GATE and hmmm lots of others lol. It’d help if you narrowed down a specific genre or trope.

MississippiBanana2026-01-22 04:08

Yeah, this was definitely helpful. I mean mechas are always badass

EndangeredLazyPanda2026-01-22 04:13

Full Metal Panic and Gundam Wing are both mecha, newer and older respectively. GW is more serious/dramatic, FMP is more comedic but also has a serious plot line. In fact, FMP’s entire second season (Fumoffu) is entirely comedy, but it was hilarious.

EndangeredLazyPanda2026-01-22 04:16

Feel free to take a peek and tell me which titles work for you and which don’t, it’ll help me narrow down future recommendations.

MississippiBanana2026-01-22 04:17

Ok, will do 🙂

I don’t know why anyone bothers asking for anime recommendations anymore, it is always going to be the same fucking recommendations….. ALWAYS THE SAME, NEVER ANYTHING that is a hidden gem. This is what they probably call karma farming

MississippiBanana2026-01-22 04:09

Naw, I’m just new to Reddit I guess and I am genuinely interested in new anime 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dismal_Conference8152026-01-22 05:36

If you’re new to both, then you might get one or two good recommendations. I’d I a you I would just go to an anime website and see the top charts for the week/ month. I’m not talking about any legit streaming sights, the pirated websites are he best.

Novachaser012026-01-21 14:47

I'm sensing that your taste might be more in the quality of the animation than the genre itself. You might like Samurai Champloo, Outlaw Star, Big O, Code Geass, or Kill la Kill. That last one is only an ecchi in disguise and tells a clever story that turns magical girl anime on its head. Steins;Gate is just a really good story based on a visual novel. If you like stories that have prep work like FMA, this might satisfy. I hold studio Ufotable in high regard even if I don't enjoy every story they work on. Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works was among the best I've seen so far. Part 2 of 3 stories in another VN adaptation, but you can start here just fine. Just make sure it's the anime, not the movie.

For movies, I really enjoyed Sakasama no Patema and Giniro no Kami no Agito. They gave me similar feelings to something that Ghibli might make.

I realize there's romance mixed in with some of these so I apologize if you're not looking for that.

MississippiBanana2026-01-22 04:04

Nice, thanks for this. Yeah, you’re right - the genre isn’t something isn’t something I care about too much. I actually enjoy romance although I usually lean towards action packed anime.
