But the manga ending left me really not wanting to watch anymore.
Apex Legends really ruined things.
notanfan2026-01-21 15:44
apex legends?
ball_throwerAFK2026-01-21 15:55
Supposedly there is a theory that the reason that the manga ending was so ass was because Aka would rather play Apex Legends than work on his own manga.
I think it’s a dumb theory as Aka is historically terrible at writing his final arcs.
notanfan2026-01-21 15:57
lmao what
mebbyyy2026-01-21 16:27
Yea, during the release of the final arc, there's many stretches of 2 to 3 weeks where the chapter was delayed over and over, and people were speculating it's because he was addicted to Apex legend, which is pretty funny I would say
williamson412026-01-21 15:57

The opening and visuals feel like a total 180° from the other 2 openings, you know we're entering uncharted territory in the entertainment business (so dark it gave me Ave Mujica flashbacks). And it's a pity that it only appears for like a sec, but the girls in black are definitely gonna have so much fanart these next few months.
YuinoSery2026-01-21 15:51

While correct they remind me of the [Fatale MV](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tQiWHXSGN0&pp=ygULZ2VtbiBmYXRhbGU%3D), especially the Aqua sections. 👀

Song slaps and the animation is amazing, it's kinda annoying to see the same "manga ending is so trash, it makes me not want to watch this anymore", even if I agree the ending wasn't good, it's been stated on every Oshi no Ko season 3 post on this sub
Electrical_Chance9912026-01-21 16:03
That's generally what happens when a popular series gets a bad/controversial ending. Happened with AOT, happened with MHA and JJK albeit to a lesser extent and now its happening with this.
sylinmino2026-01-21 16:37
That happened with MHA? All of my friends who watched that one thought the ending was phenomenal. Something I missed?
Elgato012026-01-21 16:45
They’re more so referring to the original reception the ending got on the manga, the ending to MHA manga was really hated on by some fans, even more so by shippers of a specific pairing that was not canonized.
Electrical_Chance9912026-01-21 16:46
Not that there was anything super wrong with MHA ending but action series in general benefits a lot by having an amazing anime adaptations.
Things like great animation, music, direction, and added anime original scene can really change your perception on something, it makes you less focus on the issues that otherwise would've been glaring while reading the manga. Same thing happened with AOT as well.
Also leak culture also contributes heavily on ppl's perception of the ending, in case both AOT and MHA endings were leaked days earlier without proper translations so it caused a lot of misunderstandings as well.
sylinmino2026-01-21 16:55
True, though I will say most of these same people didn't love the AOT anime ending.
But then again, that one had many more problems/oddities of its own.
hinakura2026-01-21 18:49
The reactions to MHA and JJK endings weren't all negative it was mostly divisive for MHA and neutral for JJK. On the other hand the reaction for AOT was negative and ONK was the same. I wonder what anime onlies will think of the ending.
Etnaz2026-01-21 19:11
TBH after manga readers were losing their minds about AOT ending, calling it a GOT level disaster while I quite enjoyed the ending once aired, I'm not letting these reactions spoil my enjoyment of a show before seeing the end myself.
moichispa2026-01-21 20:32
Maybe it was just me but for AOT ending I was so curious about the ending that it was funnier that seeing the ending itself.
Ending was average with good animation. 10 years scene was bad tho.
Nome_de_utilizador2026-01-22 00:03
Manga ending was more on Isayama stating that it would end on chapter 139 and by chapter 136 there were still so many lose point that couldn't possibly be wrapped up in 3 chapters. The anime did a good job of fleshing out the end, but make no mistake, it was absolutely bad before Isayama release the 'extra' panels to expand on the end after the end of the series.
HarshTheDev2026-01-22 14:38
>it was absolutely bad before Isayama release the 'extra' panels to expand on the end after the end of the series.
It's funny you say that since I clearly remember that the consensus after the extra pages released was that they made the ending *worse*. The reality was that before the ending the fanbase was *extremely* divided, everyone was so into their own agendas about the story and very few people looked at the story in its entirety for what it was, or was trying to accomplish, people were mad at the ending for what it *wasn't* instead of what it was. I was no better I'll admit.
But after rereading the whole thing a few years later with a fresh mind? The ending was messy but alright. ^(the story as a whole started degrading after timeskip though)
Galaxy40k2026-01-21 20:57
I'm not gonna lie, I can't remember the last big name anime that ever got an ending where manga readers went "yo, the ending is AMAZING, you have something sick to look forward to!!" LMAO. I feel like they're always disappointed, at least for these "big" shows.
Prof_Acorn2026-01-22 02:25
Most manga have garbage endings is probably why.
It's an effect of serialization. Things get dragged out to keep the series going and going until interest dies and it gets cancelled, at which point the mangaka finally has the resolve to provide some narrative closure, but precisely in however many chapters they are given to finish it.
It's funny, but the few manga where I liked the ending the anime ended up making it worse.
WakaliwoodMan2026-01-22 05:59
Golden Kamuy got about as perfect an ending as you can expect. The unfortunate part is that the anime never got a lot of traction because of the debacle that was season 1 (in addition to the lack of production value in later seasons making the anime just a worse version of the manga even though it's been improved a lot since season 1).
Nachtwandler_FS2026-01-22 15:17
As someone below said, it is an issue of shounen/shoujo serializations maybe. If it is popular, the author has to drag it untill they either get fed of it and wrap things or the popularity declines enough that the editors force to wrap it up.
And if it is not popular, it gets axed with the same result. Thids is why I respect the authors who know when to stop themselves because they are njot in need to drag the same story to make more money. Like Yuusei Matsui, for example. He made at least three sduccessful shounen titles which are all pretty different and were succcessful enough to get adaptations. And he ended the prevuious ones properly and seems like the same will go for Elusuive Samurai.
Arthas_Firedragon2026-01-24 13:51
> "yo, the ending is AMAZING, you have something sick to look forward to!!"
Dungeon Meshi is going to be exactly like that.
Blacksmithkin2026-01-21 21:04
Which is kinda funny cause while I didn't watch it I've mostly seen people being reasonably positive towards the MHA anime, and I thought the AOT anime ending was perfectly solid. Like it wasn't as good as the rest of the show (a damn high bar) but it was good enough to not actively drag it down like game of thrones.
Like I'd give it a pretty decent shot the same thing happens here. Turns out giving an entire production team something like 3 years to figure out a couple minor edits to an ending written by 1 person constantly rushed to keep writing chapters weekly tends to smooth out the roughest edges. (Obviously not always, but it definitely can happen)
HarshTheDev2026-01-22 14:42
Idk, MHA was always more about the journey so the ending doesn't really matter *that* much.
I was a manga reader for AoT and the ending was always controversial but not universally hated. There was still a section of the fanbase that liked it overall, ofcourse the haters were far louder.
But Oshi no ko? I haven't read it but Goddamn i have never come across a single instance of anyone liking it's ending.
Loeffellux2026-01-22 21:27
I didn't mind the Oshi no Ko ending at all. I think a big part of this was that I started reading after season 2 finished so I only had to wait for a new chapter a couple times before it was over. This probably helped with me not building up my expectations and following the fan discourse at that time.
It felt satisfying and fitting for what kinda story I thought Oshi no Ko to be.
Kittymlp552026-01-22 23:01
For me the ending was just meh. Could have been better sure, but it at least still made since. Though it being controversial is not shocking.
Farmaceut72026-01-21 16:05
Yeah, I really dont get those kinds of comments especially since Season 3 wont come anywhere close to the story's end.
mebbyyy2026-01-21 16:25
Season 3 will still be great, it's really the last 2 arcs of the show which will definitely be in season 4 that is what people hate the most.
But before it the series is still on a roll unveiling the mystery and the extremely dark side of entertainment industry in season 3.
Nachtwandler_FS2026-01-22 15:23
Eh, I don't think people hate Movie arc much outside of [plot]>!"twincest" staff!< exaggerated by some readers.
mastesargent2026-01-21 17:15
As someone who loathed the ending and is no longer watching, I think I can explain: [Oshi no Ko manga] >!Almost everything that happens this season is rendered pointless by the ending. Dark Ruby? Utterly pointless and all of her character development during that time is thrown out the window. Aqua’s character development? He goes back on all of it and kills himself despite having no good reason to do so. The twins’ identity reveal? Only serves to kick off Ruby’s incest arc (which goes nowhere) and doesn’t actually serve the story in any meaningful way. Crow Girl is a pointless character. So on and so forth. The only actually relevant plot development is Aqua learning that Kamiki is his father. After that you could skip to the final confrontation and lose literally nothing. It’s not like there are any banger arcs like Tokyo Blade to make it worth watching, so it’s just a waste of time from here on.!<
blakeavon2026-01-21 17:23
Nah sounds like you have missed entire points. Those things aren’t pointless. Each is a stepping stone that all lead to what happens. That’s what I don’t get by all the stupid hate it gets. For me it ends almost exactly as predicted. It’s like a Greek tragedy, the outcome is known from the outset. That’s the point, anyone who couldn’t see it coming sure did miss a lot of points.
mastesargent2026-01-21 17:38
No, it really isn’t. In Greek tragedies characters’ fate are ironic, having become inevitable because their own actions over the course of the entire story forced them into that position. [Oshi no Ko] >!At no point was Aqua forced into stabbing himself and throwing himself and Kamiki off of a cliff. There are a thousand other things that he could have easily done aside from that, but instead his plan A was murder suicide because the plot said he had to.!<
You say I’m missing things? Alright, enlighten me: [Oshi no Ko] >!What narrative purpose did Crow Girl serve beyond standing around and spouting cryptic bullshit? What point did Ruby’s Dark Ruby phase serve beyond letting her speedrun her idol career by screwing countless people over and suffering no long term consequences? What impact did it have on her character development, given that she got better immediately after Aqua revealed that he was Gorou and never actually grappled with her actions after that? What was the purpose of Aqua having a character arc where he time and again realizes that he doesn’t want to throw his life away and that he wants to go on living his new life if he ultimately throws it all away anyway, beyond being a rug pull for the sake of a shocking, “””tragic””” ending? What purpose did Ruby’s incest arc serve for *anything* beyond cheap comic relief and engagement bait?!< Please, I’m dying to know.
blakeavon2026-01-21 18:13
[Oshi no ko] >!it is ironic because at every single step of the way. In every single arc of the story, he grows as a person. Yet time after time again he can walk away. He only does once, then fails again. Hell all he had to do was listen and love Kana. To say nothing of the fact it is a classical tale of revenge, they never end well!<
As for your next paragraph, you clearly have overthought the show to such an extreme you don’t even realise you are answering your own questions. You are just disagreeing with the writers. That is not their fault that you think they are wrong merely because you would have wanted to see something different.
[Oshi no ko] >!EG you say dark ruby have no point but you literally make the point of it, it does drive the narrative, but because she is the true hero of the show, the person she was waiting to come to save her has literally been there the whole time, and once again he literally saves her from the path of revenge. Allow her to have the hero end, that he believes he can’t have for himself. Yet ANOTHER trigger to make it a Greek tragedy. As for the incest, of course it goes nowhere but it clearly was a byproduct of the entire Doctor storyline. She doesn’t love her brother, she loved the man he was, who she finds out just happens to be her brother. The girl was f-ing mess up. The situation was mess up. They had to go there, because it is was the culmination of an entire chunk of the story and character development. People such as you are taking it far to literally. Yes it was incest but only sorta. You are mistaken her intent and not taking into consideration of what lead to it!<
mastesargent2026-01-21 18:47
Okay, since you clearly only know “Greek tragedy” as a buzzword and not as an actual body of literature, allow me to summarize one for you and explain why it’s ironic:
In the play Oedipus Rex, the main character Oedipus receives a prophecy that he would kill his father and commit incest with his mother, so he leaves on a journey far away to avoid that happening. On his way, he kills a man in a dispute, and then later solves the riddle of a sphinx terrorizing the city of Thebes, and in reward he is married to the widowed Queen Jocaste and made king. However as it turns out, the man Oedipus killed in the highway was his true father and the former king of Thebes, and Jocaste is his mother. They had given him away as a baby in hopes of avoiding a similar prophecy that they had received. This is ironic because the steps the characters took specifically to *avoid* their tragic fate directly contributes to that fate coming to pass.
Now, for [Oshi no Ko.] >!Aqua’s fate is not ironic. Quite literally nothing about it is ironic. He took no steps to avoid it. Fate did not conspire to bring him inexorably to that point despite his best efforts. He had a character arc that was clearly leading him to choose not to kill himself, and then he did it anyway. Also it had nothing to do with revenge. He’d already let go if the revenge motive by that point. He killed himself to make sure Ruby still had her idol career.!<
[Oshi no Ko] >!Yeah, Dark Ruby serves as an explanation for how we get from B-Komachi being an up and coming idol group to being on the verge of superstars, but that’s it. It has no long-term impact on Ruby’s character development nor dies she ever face any consequences for the awful, manipulative shit she pulled during that time. And again, Aqua didn’t kill himself to save Ruby from revenge, he did it so she could prance around on stage as an idol.!<
[Oshi no Ko] >!You’re missing the point with the incest. Yes, at the end of the day Ruby is actually in love with Gorou, not Aqua, but the point is that the plotline is very blatantly exploited for cheap engagement bait and is never developed beyond that and is dropped once the engagement bait-iest part, the kiss, happens. We never see Ruby grapple with or come to terms with the fact that Aqua isn’t Gorou anymre, the kiss has zero impact on the plot or Aqua and Ruby’s relationship as siblings even though it *really* should, and it ultimately has zero bearing on the ending. Like so many other things in the last 40 or so chapters, the plotline is so poorly handled and implemented that you could cut it entirely and lose *nothing.*!<
And since you didn’t address it, I assume that you agree that [Oshi no Ko] >!Crow Girl is a pointless character?!<
DrStein10102026-01-21 17:21
No, Season 3 is just as ruined.
[OnK] >!Literally nothing that happens this season will be resolved, and none of it is even vaguely relevant to the ending.!<
Ichini-san2026-01-21 17:43
Honestly, I hate to be that guy but if you watch OnK only for the revenge plotline then you're better off dropping it. What makes this series actually interesting is the behind the scenes insight into the entertainment industry and how everyone deals with that industry - just look at how amazing S2 was... that season literally didn't advance the revenge plotline by more than a couple centimeters as well.
The revenge plotline is the false advertising, flashy and attention-grabbing "book cover"/thumbnail while the actual meat of the story is 90% just Slice of Life of people in the entertainment industry. Honestly, considering the ending, I wish the revenge plotline had even less focus.
flybypost2026-01-21 20:12
> Honestly, considering the ending, I wish the revenge plotline had even less focus.
Same here. The revenge plot is such a good delivery vehicle to let us explore the entertainment industry and the characters in it. Those moments when Oshi no Ko manages that balance well it's really great and a lot of fun.
Xlegace2026-01-21 21:29
I agree, the reason why Tokyo Blade is the best arc is because it has literally nothing to do with the revenge arc and is just good character writing for most of the cast.
UnusuallyBadIdeaGuy2026-01-22 01:51
I don't get the vibe from Doga Kobo that they would drive off a cliff in the name of being 'true to the manga' personally.
Prof_Acorn2026-01-22 02:32
Because it's like a Game of Thrones watch party. A lot of people are feeling disappointment from their excitement. Like the awesomeness of it all is tarnished. And the more amazing it gets the worse it also feels. Also (to be really vague) certain things have appeared that are bringing to mind the ending, so it makes people think about it.
Raknel2026-01-21 16:27
I get it, but at the same time I can't help but have mixed feelings even while watching this.
On visuals, music and vibes alone, this is already a candidate for OP of the year. But I almost feel like it's too good for the manga.. I'm watching this thinking "I wish the story itself went this hard".
KingSammyJ12026-01-21 19:05
yea I get this feeling too but I am now thinking maybe the ending will feel better in anime form rather than waiting week to week for each chapter plus the delays that happened in between those chapters
ekjohnson92026-01-21 16:30
For me, its not that it was bad, its that the anime cranks everything up to 11 and im not sure i can handle that.
stevethebandit2026-01-21 16:45
I don't care if the ending was bad, the anime is still peak
Ichini-san2026-01-21 17:47
Same. I actually *know* the ending was bad but still think the Anime is peak. And who know? Maybe seeing it animated makes it less bad or even improves it... or the Anime only ending cope becomes real.
stevethebandit2026-01-21 17:52
Kaguya is getting an anime original ending so you never know.. would be embarrassing for Aka to have to redo the endings of both his hit series though
Ichini-san2026-01-21 18:10

Magic19982026-01-21 19:33

^copium
kaguraa2026-01-21 20:47
they said it was already in plans for years for kaguya. i don’t think it will be the same for onk
MiyabiMain952026-01-21 21:20
AoT had a shitty ending, but the anime improved on it. I'm hoping that this shit ending people are talking about gets improved by animation
Ichini-san2026-01-21 21:35
Funnily enough while the AoT ending stayed almost the same (just with some additional scenes) they only changed one single line which made the ending soooo much better (it was a line from Armin to Eren, iykyk). Well, maybe not better as in good but way more stomachable.
Many people really despise the OnK ending but tbh I personally think even without changing it fundamentally if you tweak the lead-up and context a bit it could be similarly improved like the AoT one. But it would definitely need more direct changes as opposed to that one.
YoloJoloHobo2026-01-22 03:01
Yeah AoT's ending wasn't nearly as bad. It was more of a case of a rushed delivery of the final \~10 chapters which screwed it up, and it was fixed cleanly in the anime without any big restructuring.
OnK? I think it's more of a structural problem with how the ending is written and how the characters are too. It'd take a LOT more work to fix it.
Bladder-Splatter2026-01-21 21:22
On one hand I get you but on another hand, I remember how felt I about The Promised Neverland and how I felt about its second season after watching it actually come out.
Felt like a war crime.
stevethebandit2026-01-21 21:32
I still think TPN S1 is amazing on its own
TheSmexhy2026-01-21 18:09
People probably think they might get an anime-original ending if they voice their opinions loudly, and they might be right. Kaguya-sama: Love Is War is getting an anime-original movie ending for the series (and it didn’t have that bad of an ending at all), and it’s from the same author, so it’s at least not impossible. I personally would be excited if that was to happen but I get that it’s annoying to read in every oshi no ko post as well.
Nachtwandler_FS2026-01-21 18:21
Erm, they already adapted the ending. It is just an anime-original epilogue story (which is a different thing). It won't retcon any manga events.
MeatballZeitgeist2026-01-21 18:50
It *could*, however, give more closure to parts of the manga where the original ending was lacking in closure. [kaguya manga]>!Ishigami/Miko stands out as a potential beneficiary of this.!<
Because [OnK/Kaguya manga]>!basically EVERY OnK side character gets as incomplete of an ending as IshiMiko!< the idea of an anime-original epilogue for this series is *very* appealing.

Damn, this OP is stylish. I really like it. They decided to go full on symbolism here instead of teasing the actual plot.
ozmega2026-01-22 05:50
i usually dislike Openings because they tend to "spoil" a few things and because i get it i saw it once already
this one i might just let roll everyweek
ReptileCake2026-01-22 15:21
I remember when Naruto Shippuden was running, the amount og spoilers were so frustrating.
And then I watched Jojo's Bizzare Adventure where the symbolism and teasers were in the openings without actually directly spoiling unless you knew what would happen.
Openings can be really weird.
NightMercedes2026-01-22 17:26
Not sure about others but as an anime-only, I did not feel spoiled. Its just impressive and pretty visual to me. I think they did a good job of keeping it as spoilers-free as possible.
Emi_Ibarazakiii2026-01-22 08:14
Love all the symbolism! (even some we might not fully grasp just yet)
It's crazy how some scenes say so much in just a few frames!

Oshi no Ko's opening is always cryptic and mysterious, and this one's seems to have it all. Song-wise, it evokes the mystery, but compared to previous two openings it's quite a departure from a fast-paced opening.
Also this is one of two CHANMINA-related OP this season, as the other will be Medalist S2's OP (HANA is CHANMINA's group).

The amount of passion shown in this anime adaptation just moves you... We have another stellar pairing of OP and ED songs and visuals, and you just know season 4 will get a great OP/ED pairup as well.
It just makes you hope that this series and its characters can get something, anything that could improve it's ending.

As far as I understand the Kaguya movie is just going to be an epilogue to the story that’s already been told in the manga, which despite the lackluster final arc is still overall *fine.* The problem is that the entire back quarter or so of Oshi no Ko and especially the ending is just so utterly, story-ruiningly terrible that there’s not much you can really do with adding more epilogue. The only real thread left open is [Oshi no Ko manga, second LN] >!Akane trying to learn how to bring back Aqua’s soul from Crow Girl, and if we’re going to do a plotline about resurrecting Aqua then maybe Aka shouldn’t have killed him off for stupid reasons in the first place.!< Frankly the only way anime original content would actually fix Oshi no Ko is by throwing out everything that season 4 is set to adapt and doing a completely anime original season. Anything short of that and you’re still left with a fundamentally broken story, and frankly it’s pretty much guaranteed to not happen.
blakeavon2026-01-21 17:25
It wasn’t a silly reason. It made perfect sense and fitted with the character. You just don’t agree with it. Big difference.
mastesargent2026-01-21 17:45
Lolwut? [Oshi no Ko] >!First off, there is never a good reason to kill yourself. Ever. So shut the fuck up. He killed himself to save his sister’s career. Not his sister, *her career.* Kamiki posed very little threat that couldn’t be negated by, y’know, hiring some fucking bodyguards. But because if Kamiki were arrested for Ai’s or any other murder or Aqua arrested for Kamiki’s murder it would be bad for Ruby’s career so I guess murder-suicide is the only option.!<
Also the past tense for “fit” in this case is just “fit.” “Fitted” is a different use case.
AzorAhai1TK2026-01-22 01:11
This is why I don't know why everyone has said "oh just change the ending!". It needs more than a fix to the ending, it needs an ***entire*** rewrite of what will be the final season or so, as you said. This series is still a bit of a guilty pleasure so I'm really hoping they manage to make it work somehow.
Nachtwandler_FS2026-01-22 15:11
Final arc is not that long. Movie arc was perfectly fine, unless you count [plot]>!a tiny bit of Ruby/Aqua ship-tease!< which people exaggerated.
TzeroOcne2026-01-21 16:13
I took a quick glance and got confused "what is pening movie?", then I see it again and see the letter O
SupersonicBootyBangr2026-01-21 16:14
The giant moldy strawberries next to Miyako and the IV inserted into Sarina’s hand is so heartbreaking but damn are they impactful with these visuals.

This season goes so hard with OP/EDs, I've listened to a shitton of them without even knowing which belongs to which show, lol except for a few

Daaaaamnnn... Beautiful

OP of the year already
ekjohnson92026-01-21 16:28
All black with a veil. Damn
Salty1452026-01-21 16:30
Damn. Those vocals are something else.
Hard to say whether this is the best of the 3, given how generally good they all are, but that imagery is pretty sharp and when overlayed with an absolute dime of a track the result is another contender for OP of the year right out the gate.
MyPizzaWithPepperoni2026-01-21 16:35
Why it's S1-2 not on Crunchyroll?
BJRone2026-01-21 16:47
The visuals for all their OP's are always so fucking clean man.
Night-Owl2542026-01-21 16:53
The vibe of this slays hard
zairaner2026-01-21 16:56
Aaaaaaa I want to watch it, but I have to keep myself in check till I can watch the episode.
MeatballZeitgeist2026-01-21 17:03
Fixated on the Ruby/Ai imagery trying to work out the symbolism when suddenly, Akane bikini flashbang.
oops_i_made_a_typi2026-01-22 15:09
haha yeah, super psycho Ruby in that pit of Ai-dolls (wow I just got that pun) right into that jiggle physics was some whiplash

God tier visually. Song is also very good. I love this so much.
blakeavon2026-01-21 17:18
All this season’s songs are absolutely banging. In fact, all their songs, including all the B-Komachi songs from both the anime and live action, have all been pretty amazing.
animepig2026-01-21 17:25
Damn this is a really good opening. I wish Oshi no Ko didn't fall off so hard.

Finally an opening this season that has both good song and good visuals.

Thanks to Oshi no Ko I discovered Chanmina and Hana. Despite my misgivings with the last part+ ending of the manga I'm very grateful.

Were Akane's "Akanes" always that big? I'm not complaining though XD

I'm suprised they didn't use the teledisc that was used in first episode. I felt like it fit better.
moichispa2026-01-21 20:38
I love the style of the opening it seems some sort of wild girls cosmopolitan magazine/the real housewives style. Bold yet feminine and classy. I knew the song had potential but I was surprised to see thew going this direction with the opening.
OddTea742026-01-21 20:48
This OP is so good...
Can we have an anime original ending pls

This op is such a banger, and it's so depressing
gsurfer042026-01-21 21:31
I mentioned this on the ep 1 thread but it's very reminiscent of Garbage, a band I really like.
I was a bit disappointed that this seems to be a departure from Chanmina's main style because she nailed this.
awakenDeepBlue2026-01-21 21:32
Anybody else saw the Madoka Magica reference?
And I think there was an Evangelion reference too.
Naha-2026-01-21 21:40
Fantastic opening, easily the best one in the series and Top 3 in this season for me with Fate Strange Fake and You and I Are Polar Opposites.
Man I like Akane so much.

Oh thats a banger

holy shit what an insane OP and arts
BaytaCosmico2026-01-22 03:47
I already loved the OP when I watched it in episode 2 yesterday but appreciate it a whole lot more after reading [this](https://x.com/Yuyucow/status/2014137319154954484?s=20) dissection of it on Twitter by YuYucow. Insanely packed OP and definitely a contender for best of the season.
171194Joy62026-01-22 05:00
I really loved the song and the direction! Amazing. The bridge with that Aqua bit was divine.
RageList2026-01-22 05:16
First time opening so good makes me glaze the anime that I don't like that much (I do like the anime alright)
Emi_Ibarazakiii2026-01-22 07:57
Good lord..
I was already in love with the song (played it hundreds of times already), but these visuals, the symbolism and all, it says SO much in 0.5 second scenes and all!

Let's just admit to ourselves early that this is actually better than IDOL so we don't have to live with denial for the rest of the year.
Commentaires
But the manga ending left me really not wanting to watch anymore.
Apex Legends really ruined things.
I think it’s a dumb theory as Aka is historically terrible at writing his final arcs.
New ED is pretty underwhelming.
don't be disrespectful to natori and all the people who worked on it.
While correct they remind me of the [Fatale MV](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tQiWHXSGN0&pp=ygULZ2VtbiBmYXRhbGU%3D), especially the Aqua sections. 👀
damn i was thinking the same thing watching the OP, love seeing all the girls go dark mode. more kpop idol with their outfits though, but i'm down for that.

But then again, that one had many more problems/oddities of its own.
Ending was average with good animation. 10 years scene was bad tho.
Dungeon Meshi is going to be exactly like that.
It felt satisfying and fitting for what kinda story I thought Oshi no Ko to be.
But before it the series is still on a roll unveiling the mystery and the extremely dark side of entertainment industry in season 3.
You are mistaken her intent and not taking into consideration of what lead to it!<
In the play Oedipus Rex, the main character Oedipus receives a prophecy that he would kill his father and commit incest with his mother, so he leaves on a journey far away to avoid that happening.
[OnK] >!Literally nothing that happens this season will be resolved, and none of it is even vaguely relevant to the ending.!<
The revenge plotline is the false advertising, flashy and attention-grabbing "book cover"/thumbnail while the actual meat of the story is 90% just Slice of Life of people in the entertainment industry. Honestly, considering the ending, I wish the revenge plotline had even less focus.
Same here. The revenge plot is such a good delivery vehicle to let us explore the entertainment industry and the characters in it. Those moments when Oshi no Ko manages that balance well it's really great and a lot of fun.
On visuals, music and vibes alone, this is already a candidate for OP of the year. But I almost feel like it's too good for the manga.. I'm watching this thinking "I wish the story itself went this hard".
^copium
Many people really despise the OnK ending but tbh I personally think even without changing it fundamentally if you tweak the lead-up and context a bit it could be similarly improved like the AoT one. But it would definitely need more direct changes as opposed to that one.
OnK? I think it's more of a structural problem with how the ending is written and how the characters are too. It'd take a LOT more work to fix it.
Felt like a war crime.
Because [OnK/Kaguya manga]>!basically EVERY OnK side character gets as incomplete of an ending as IshiMiko!< the idea of an anime-original epilogue for this series is *very* appealing.
this one i might just let roll everyweek
And then I watched Jojo's Bizzare Adventure where the symbolism and teasers were in the openings without actually directly spoiling unless you knew what would happen.
Openings can be really weird.
It's crazy how some scenes say so much in just a few frames!

It just makes you hope that this series and its characters can get something, anything that could improve it's ending.
Also the past tense for “fit” in this case is just “fit.” “Fitted” is a different use case.
