Looking for ADAPTATIONS like Devilman Crybaby
Specifically I mean adaptations that take from the original Source Material, but improve heavily upon writing / story quality and art style.
Another Example would be PLUTO written by Naoki Urasawa and adapted from Astro Boy.

Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu didn't change everything but it did update the series' designs and fairly poor manga art and update it to the modern day.

Also you might enjoy other works by Yuasa (director of Devilman Crybaby) since Yuasa's directorial trademark is using distinctive animation to heighten the emotions in the story! My favorites are Tatami Galaxy and Ping Pong the Animation. You can see how his style differs from other adaptations of similar work by comparing his adaptation of Tatami Galaxy to The Eccentric Family (same original novel author, different studios adapted the series) or comparing Ping Pong to Tekkonkinkreet (again same mangaka, different studios.)
