Ranking of 3 anime

Rank these 3 anime:

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Vinland Saga

Legend of the Galactic Heroes

They're the next 3 anime I would most likely watch, but I want to see which is the best.

Hi TheFireRises666, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

I actually think Legend of the Galactic Heroes. The strategies are pretty legitimate, and they really perfect the soldierly archetypes, like Julian

MitchNotBitch2026-01-22 04:59

Imo Vinland Saga is the best, then FMAB

I havent seen Legend of the Galactic Heros so cannot comment there

Vinland Saga is significantly shorter too, so I recommend starting there

1. Galactic Heroes

2. FMAB

3. Vinland

However Galactic Heroes is also an acquired taste. It's fundamentally the least anime of the 3 also.

TheFireRises6662026-01-22 05:27

Yeah, it is fine. Is it similar to Western space shows like Battlestar Galactica?

thaivuN2026-01-22 06:00

Haven't seen Battlestar, but if there's a way to describe LOGH: if you take the world of Star Wars, remove the aliens and space wizards, and then you present a galactic war story as a political and war documentary.

TheFireRises6662026-01-22 06:28

Yeah, so kinda similar to Battlestar. It's an extremely political show with religious themes.

North5142026-01-22 06:52

It’s not the same kind of show at all as someone who has seen both. If you want something similar, to Battlestar Galactica, go watch Space Battleship Yamato.

LOTGH is more like space Romance of the Three Kingdoms, with some Napoleonic history mixed in.

Also even as a fan of all three

LOTGH>>>>FMAB>Vinland Saga would be my ranking. There isn’t much like LOTGH in this medium, in my opinion.

I would think of Legend of the Galactic Heroes as being more academic and operatic. It's not as political as it is politically philosophical, though it does have its fair share of politics and intrigue. It is, in equal measure, about human history and governance.

If you like space opera stuff though, consider adding Crest of the Stars and Banner of the Stars to your list for a later time, as it's a bit more familiar with Western Space Operas as a "people do space war stuff" kind of series.

LotGH is the fictional documentary geopolitical gentleman tea conquest of the galaxy anime.

And non-stop speeches about utopia.

Love that anime. I watched the new adaptation and anticipate the next season.

1. Legend of the Galactic Heroes
2. Vinland Saga
3. FMA Brotherhood

Knuckleheaded-beardo2026-01-22 05:50

I second this.

I_am_your_oniichan2026-01-22 05:11

1- Legend of the Galactic Heroes

2- Vinland Saga

3- Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

MusubiKazesaru2026-01-22 05:12

Legend of the Galactic Heroes (the original OVA/Movies)

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Vinland Saga (it's comparable to FMA, but there's a few decisions I don't love that the anime made so I knocked it down a bit here, the other two series are very much complete which is to their benefit)

Die Neue Thesis

HitBattousai232026-01-22 06:07

Legend of the Galactic Heroes

FMAB

Vinland Saga

But I will add the disclaimer that Heroes requires the most investment by a large margin.

WiseMudskipper2026-01-22 16:40

Legend of the Galactic Heroes is my favourite anime of all time.

Vinland Saga is in my top 5.

FMA is maybe in my top 20.

No-Pen14892026-01-23 11:58

1. FMAB
2. Vinland Saga
3. Legend of the Galactic Heroes (Never watched it)
