**The Holy Grail of Eris - Episode 2 Recap**
Figured a short recap would help for weekly discussion posts, especially since this show loves name-dropping.
* Episode 2 mainly focuses on **Lily Orlamunde** and **Emilia Godwin**.
* Lily is who Connie believes was Scarlett’s closest friend. She married **Earl Randolph Ulster**, the same man who interrogated Connie twice.
* At Lily’s residence, Connie and Scarlett find a letter with a **key** and a thorned paper reading **“Destroy the Holy Grail of Eris.”**
* The orphans Lily cared for say **“Kiriki Kirikuku”** to Connie—a phrase Lily taught them to identify bad people.
* The attention Connie (and Scarlett) drew at the Hamsworth Ball made the papers and led **Baroness Emilia Godwin** to invite Connie to her own ball.
* Two women fight at the ball, **Teresa Jennings** and **Margot Tudor**. Teresa is suspected of having an affair with Margot’s husband, which ends with Margot slashing Teresa’s face with a wine glass.
* Emilia gives Connie another lead via a cryptic message: *“The seventh division of inmost Mars. At the old Montrose residence. The invitation is in Earl John Doe’s hat.”*
* The episode ends with a man kissing a woman with a sun tattoo on her chest, who also says “Kiriki Kirikuku.”
Which means that Jane is connected to the organization. Makes you wonder how the police missed her during the investigation.
>The episode ends with a man kissing a woman with a sun tattoo on her chest, who also says “Kiriki Kirikuku.”
And this also means that this man is likely connected to the organization.
Either corruption or sloppy work. I am going to bet corruption because that makes for a more interesting story.
was it the same woman that Constance save in this episode? the one that Scarlet called her Jane?
Best bit about this is Constance looking like a (cute) goober lol
> a man kissing a woman with a sun tattoo on her chest, who also says “Kiriki Kirikuku.”
Oh, I missed that! Brain must have been overwhelmed by the power of the cleavage lol
What began as a ghostly bargain has become a true friendship.
Like, the moment she didn't want Constance to get arrested, her seeing her big brother in such a sad and longing look and lastly her moment with Constance at the flower road.
Man, I really love these two.
And considering how 89% of marriages of conveniences or fake engagements in fiction end up becoming true love by the end of it...that might pay off later too.
After learning about Scarlett’s lineage, I wonder if that ties in at all with her demise?
I’m really interested in learning more about Scarlett’s connection to Cecilia and how the royals might play into all this. There’s something there I think.
The Grails are known for ~~their sincerity~~ being smoooooth operators!
Tsundere Eris giving more dere is adorable.
***
The tonal whiplash of Suzushiro going from Kind Kinmei (*Wash It All Away!!*) to Scarlett. And then tomorrow will be another whiplash of her going to Suzuki (*You and I Are Polar Opposites*).
I just love Scarlett and Connie’s relationship. More Scarlett blushing because of Connie’s kindness, please and thank you.
***
EDIT: dera to dere
Connie might be more open to underhanded methods, but she's still a very sincere and good person and I feel like Scarlett has come to appreciate and cherish that in her own way. Especially when her supposed "best friend" wasn't really her best friend, but what she has with Connie seems genuine.
She has been ***booked*** and we thank her for it 💃🏾
I really shouldn't have watched the episode at 2am, because I can't remember who ran, and why/when lol
They say you can never go home again, especially after death, but Scarlett DOES get to go home again as Constance infiltrates the Castiel residence...and runs into her brother, one of the few people Scarlett actually reacts tenderly too. Even if he was her half-brother from a different mother, even if they didn't look anything alike, he was still her brother. And they're both kind of haughty nobles, so that runs in the family!
But Scarlett definitely has a noble bloodline, her mother was born from the runaway princess of the Faris Empire, Cornelia, who herself was born of the union between an Imperial Prince and another nation. So to say Scarlett has a high pedigree is an understatement.
I guess it was inevitable that Constances' cosplay investigations would inevitably result in her ending up at a masquerade ball, but that dark, classy, outfit and mask really looks good on her.
Look at the pinnacle of noble and criminal decadency! Run by none other than Deborah, who (along with others) immediately pays attention to Connie when they hear her use Scarlett's "Eris" codename. Oh, and Viscount Hamsworth is there too, even if no amount of masking is going to disguise the "Moon-Dappled Ham." But guy can run!
I can't believe the one night Constance decides to attend this underground ball, it's the one night the security forces raid it. This is what you get for allowing human trafficking to go on at a party! But while Connie NEEDS to get out of there, when she sees Jane (who happens to have a familiar tattoo on her breast) in danger, even if it means staying behind to get arrested, she can't abandon another woman in need. Not after what happened to her.
Aw, Scarlett actually cares about Constance and wants her to be safe! Even called her "Connie!" And apparently Scarlett actually has enough magic power to do some physical feats, even in ghost form.
Double lucky for Constance that Randolph just so happens to be there, so he takes her word for it that she wasn't involved in anything illegal, so she's safe from arrest...but not Randolph's attention. Enough to be willing to work with her and give her what she wants: via an engagement. Congratulations Constance, you're off the market again...I guess.
Randolph not only clears Constances' families' debt but he also is willing to believe her crazy story about Scarlett's ghost-fueled revenge quest, and is willing to offer her some aid while keeping an eye on her. Though he has no intention of truly wedding her, having no interest in marriage. Is this because of Lily's death?
But despite having the biggest problem in her life resolved and having no reason to help Scarlett anymore, Constance will still be there for her ghost bestie! They're in this together!
So the group they're looking for with the tattoo is the "Daeg Gallus" organization?
The "relationship" with Randolph is already paying off when Constance gets invited to meet Prince Enrique (Natsuki Hanae!) and even Crown Princess Cecilia or Cess (Maaya Uchida!). The two of them were at the center of Scarlett's frame-job and execution, but Cess is all bubbly smiles and upbeat energy, to the point of appearing to lack all sense of social decorum, as she tries to begin a fast friendship with Connie. She's kind of a lot, huh? Especially for "Randy." Though there might be more behind it, with her calculating eyes and how cold her hands are...and despite what you might expect, she was the one who hated Scarlett at first glance and saw everyone as the enemy. So how did she end up with the prince?
Constance is even meeting the king, Ernst (Hiroki Tochi!) who gives Scarlett her excuse to possess Connie. Seems like the king has... a lot of complicated feelings about Scarlett.

Constance in Maximum Goober mode, so cute lol
Also she reunites with Natsuki Hanae as the prince from *The Day I Became a God.*

[2] >!Once again not to be outdone by *Bean Counter*!!<
[So much for Connie's declaration of turning wicked](https://i.imgur.com/MZ2JLrL.jpeg), considering one of the things she does this episode [is to save that bleeding lady](https://i.imgur.com/x4v38lw.jpeg) instead of running away to save her own ass. I don't mind it, it suits her more. Let Scarlet handle the wicked stuff. xD
Also, it ended up working out for her since [she gets saved by Randolph](https://i.imgur.com/FyHOaZQ.jpeg), who was willing to make a deal with her in exchange for information. I just didn't expect the guy [to ask her to become his fiancée!](https://i.imgur.com/KBGRLpy.jpeg). I also didn't think [Connie would just tell him everything.](https://i.imgur.com/DaQZCCS.jpeg) O_O
[I love the little moment between Connie and Scarlet.](https://i.imgur.com/fGjK5hT.jpeg) Scarlet was really worried that Connie would stop helping her now that Connie's debts were settled. That would've been out of character for Connie. They're in this together now, so she's definitely gonna see this through.
[Cecillia was definitely something](https://i.imgur.com/RSwyI1W.jpeg). She might be friendly, but it's pretty clear you shouldn't drop your guard around her. She's definitely scarier than Randolph.
Um...I guess we have legit romance now lol?
That moment between Constance and Scarlett was so cute. This episodes really highlighted so many sides of Scarlett that I thought only would be revealed much more later.
About Cecillia, I think the fact that Constance said her hands were cold could be an indication of something. Might be that Cecillia could be a walking corpse where another soul took her body or she's just the scariest psycho ever live.
At least the Grail's family debt got cleared.
At first, I was wondering how the cute and positive Cecilia (based on her initial appearance) could have led to Scarlett's execution. Turns out she is merely acting. Those intense red eyes are indication of her true personality.
Cold hands also probably mean a cold heart.
phrasing
The first time she was so hyped when Scarlett took over her body at the second episode, I thought she's just hyping Scarlett demolishing people. And seeing her being so gleeful when Scarlett took her body again but in less dire situation, I think she legit really had what you said in mind lmao.
I wonder if it has to do with the legend about the Red flowers.
The interesting thing is, I think that her watching Scarlet-as-herself is rubbing off on her a little. Getting to see this alternative version of how "she" could be has no doubt contributed a little to her new resolve to "supplement" sincerity, along with all the subterfuge that she's been roped into.
Our sweet Constance is going to be quite a different girl once all this is done, one way or another, head still attached to neck or not lol
Constance taking the reins and deciding to help Scarlett is beautiful to see; she is the only salvation for the kingdom amidst so many betrayals.
Randolph may not be the best person, but he has good intentions, and I hope he stays by Constance's side in the future.
And surely that woman with that tattoo will reappear in the future, probably something darker.
She basically had a claim to all the previous lands held by the Faris Empire. I can see why a lot of people would want her gone.
A lot of big details about the big picture political movements of this world. Being related to the empress line probably had something to do with why she got killed.
Okay, imma be honest, this whole thing reeked of suspicious business but I kind of expected this whole “secret noble alliance” party to be better at keeping things like their human trafficking rings under wraps.
Seems like Scarlett has some magic tricks up her sleeve to use in a pinch even while dead.
Sure, she’s just gotten herself into another marriage contract. Hopefully this one pans out better than the previous one.
Their “I will continue to help you cause you helped me when no one else would” scene in the garden was pretty cute. Love a good sunshine melting jaded individual development.
Him being stone faced about the marriage while the guy is losing it and Constance is just vibing, eating cake is incredibly funny.
Forgot about it in the chaos but the woman she helped out had a sun tattoo right? That feels like an important detail to remember.
Cecilia seems like a common airhead but I don’t trust that as far as I can throw her. At least her and Scarlett share a tendency for calling her “Connie.”
I like how Scarlett moves further away and only slides back in to her usual spot at Connie’s back once Cecilia is gone.
Scarlett, you don’t need to be such a dramatic theatre kid about everything you do. Your behavior is making people suspicious. But probably wouldn’t be you if you didn’t make everything into a show.
I love the friendship between Constance and Scarlett especially when Scarlett started showing her sweeter side. Poor girl deserved better than getting falsely accused and executed.
We have our two main leads:
* Constance Grail
* Scarlett Castiel
**House Castiel:**
* Aliénore Castiel - Scarlett's late mother. She was a descendant of the Empress Cordelia from the Faris Empire.
* Maximilian Castiel - Scarlett's older half-brother.
**House Richelieu:**
* Randolph Ulster - An earl and a member of the Royal Military Police. He was married to Scarlett's friend, Lily Orlamunde, and meets Constance when the latter is investigating the clues Lily left behind at a chapel. As he keeps running into Constance at suspicious places, Constance is forced to admit her involvement with Scarlett's ghost. Randolph then proposes they get engaged as a temporary arrangement so he can better keep an eye on Constance and help her pay off her family's debts.
* Lily Orlamunde - Randolph's late wife who committed suicide two years ago. She was an old friend of Scarlett.
**Royalty:**
* King Ernst
* Enrique Adelbide - The Crown Prince and Scarlett's ex-fiancé. After Scarlett's execution, he married Cecilia.
* Cecilia Adelbide - The Crown Princess and Enrique's wife. She acts very kind and friendly, but her true nature isn't benevolent at all . Scarlett was put to death after she was framed for an attempt to poison Cecilia.
**Other nobles:**
* Deborah Darkian - The hostess of the earl john doe's ball.
* Kate Lorraine & Mylene Reese - Constance's best friends.
* Dominic Hamsworth - The viscount who sponsored the ball at Grand Merillian, where Constance meets Scarlett. He's also a clergyman. He also seems to be able to see Scarlett.
Daeg Gallus - Not a person but a criminal organization that deals with human trafficking, poison and drugs. Its members have a sun tattoo somewhere on their body.

I have to say that the story moves quite fast at this point. Things are happening really quickly and I hope they can slow down a bit in the next weeks. Like, I feel meeting the prince, princess and king should have been a bigger part and it was done relatively quickly.
For the uninitiated on noble titles:
King/Queen.
Prince/Princess.
Duke/Duchess.
Marquess/Marchioness.
Earl/Countess.
Viscount/Viscountess.
Baron/Baroness.
Now, at least we can assume that lord death is a good person. And knows what's up, esp Eris lying to him.
Clearly, there is someone involve within their police force. Eris saw that breast tattoo, but the news relayed to him is that there are no tats. Someone protecting this syndicate within the kingdom, for sure.
Third time's the charm, she'll buy a slave next episode!
Or maybe it has magic that functions like that in *Bean Counter*'s?
I know it’s just an expression but imagine joining becoming a royal guard just to have to check criminal’s buttholes for tattoos.
And Scarlett in control is always a delight to see.
We also now know who the likely male lead is, since Constance gets engaged to Randolph. and get to meet the man Scarlett was supposed to marry and Cecilia, who actually married him (the crown prince). "Cess" is not nearly as jovial as she seems, and as explained by Scarlett seems to be a much darker personality. She seems an interesting character, and I look forward to seeing her interact with Constance in the present and hopefully Scarlett in flashbacks...
This series continues to be a fun watch, the highlights always being when Scarlett takes over and we see "Constance" then catching people off guard.
She's such an unlikely spy that I find these parts really enjoyable.
I was not expecting Randolph and Constance to get engaged but I wouldn't mind seeing more of him so I'm not complaining. It just feels weird because of my assumed age gap, I don't know how old they are even if it is a fake engagement.
Given how scheme-y and pragmatics-over-idealism this world is, I wouldn't be surprised if big age-gap arranged marriages were quite common in this world.
That said, being bothered by it or not is very much a personal thing when it comes to in-the-context of fiction. For me, it tends to squick a bit when there's too much disparity between the personal power rather than the age itself. As an example, in *I'll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History* there was a large age gap, but Alicia could not only handle herself very well, but also actually put her Prince in his place. Plus the other characters/authorial voice had some things to say about him overstepping his bounds at times, too, so I found that quite a comfortable watch.
Here it's perhaps on the margins for me, in that I'd wondered about it but not really bothered thinking about it until now.
Constance the good girl aiming to help everyone, even while pretending she's throwing away her sincerity.
Impressive restraint on the show staff to not quickly zoom in on the scantily clad slave girls in the back when they had the opportunity.
Scarlett being the heir to a substantial number of local kingdoms plus the fallen empire that used to rule them all is an easy explanation for any number of people wanting her dead. Still could be a red herring though since we also met the nice but also evil crown princess that replaced her as the fiance and who knows what she might have been up to.
Yes, some of the writing seems like it really leaps forward very sharply without full resolution of some points, although I think it tends to make sense why it does in retrospect , it's just a little disconcerting in the moment because much of the writing and direction is deliciously smooth and immersive.
> even while pretending she's throwing away her sincerity.
I don't really think she's pretending to throw it away though? Her particular phrasing was that "it's not enough", if I recall correctly, which sounds like her adding a few dabs of black paint to her originally white bucket... but once it greys, you can never return.
> not quickly zoom in on the scantily clad slave girls
Scarlett is a co-producer, the only fan-service that is permitted is of her vamping it up and the luxurious assets of the upper class!
> Scarlett being the heir to a substantial number of local kingdoms plus the fallen empire that used to rule them all is an easy explanation for any number of people wanting her dead.
Yes, definitely. Although from the way the nobility seems to work in this world with all its scheming games and so forth, that aspect of her heritage could be an indirect cause rather than the prime driver of things.
It's the first solid lead we have. Scarlett counting as nobility of multiple kingdoms feels like a huge deal.
Which might be a hindrance since he's investigating the organization that seems involved in all this.
This makes me think of Joanna of Castille, who inherited the numerous crowns and titles constituting today's Spain, but was throughout her life put in one regency after the other on accounts of supposed insanity (earning her the moniker "The Mad").
This episode mostly existed just to introduce: the brother, the prince, the evil princess, the king, and the fact that Constance saved the lady with the evil boob tattoo will also pay off down the line. Hopefully.
This definitely needs to be more popular imo
I do like ghost powers, I just know that's going to come in handy.
That was one sudden engagement. But how would her family's debts be cleared if she "annuls it before long"? Is the dude's family gonna pay for them right away?
Why keep her new fiancé's dead wife's note a secret from him?
I wonder if the crown princess is an isekaiee. And I wonder why Scarlett doesn't seem to have anything much against her, given that she was most likely the one who had Scartlett framed and executed.
Constance recently broke off her engagement and Randolph is in his second year as a widower. They probably can't annul their second engagement right away considering how people will view it.
Randolph isn't interested in getting married and having a fiance would deter potential suitors.
Constance solves her family's debt and Randolph won't stand in her way while trying to clear Scarlett's name. If anything he can bail her out of a tough spot.
> Did someone slice her wrist for her?
Looks that way, not yet clear why. To avoid her getting captured?
> Why keep her new fiancé's dead wife's note a secret from him?
I think Scarlet doesn't fully trust Randolph yet.
It looks like there is a LOT of 💩going on in that kingdom. Will be interested to see where this all goes.
I like how Constance and Scarlett are more friendly between them each new episode, they look like two sisters.
Constance has a future husband now, I don't know if it's good ship them lol.
A ghost character that can follow around the cute female MC and influence/possess her as they work together is a premise that I really like (I've probably seen it before somewhere), so I was already along for the ride anyways.
And Constance is WAY TOO CUTE
