Edit: Guys, I think the episode was so hype that it's breaking my Twitter. Anyone having issues too?
[](#oilup)
And Maki absolutely fucking did. The whole clan fucking deserves it.
I would love to see a side by side scene comparison. Some shots are 1-to-1 recreations

[Naoya was solely powered by sheer spite towards women](https://i.imgur.com/IY2yS7V.jpeg)
"You're no Toji-kun" he says, to Toji-kun 2.0
Absolute cinema! Naoya deserved it.
Thank you, Maki.
EDIT: Christ, play along, people. I actually recommend *The Witch from Mercury* and was the only one obsessed with tracking its karma when it aired.
3 episodes later:
> Proceeds to be stabbed in the back and die at the hands of a woman
I remember from some article (or documentary) that the wife of a Samurai was supposed to walk three steps behind her man so that she'd be in the way of an attempt at his life and he'd have time to react.
Meaning he was really exemplifying the disposable nature of women with his traditionally infused misogyny when he said that. In his view women deserve no rights ("go back to tradition" and all that bullshit) and ought to die if their views get too "equal rights" for his liking.
Generational episode that would be remembered for years.
Not quite all of it as monochrome because the color treatment where it exists is legit cool, but you get the idea.

However as seen when she killed Naoyo the mother did actually want to protect Maki, she just let herself get killed because chances are she felt guilty about all the shit that happened to her daughters.
It was all a set up to get her killed. Once the old lady got a fatal wound, she decided to help Maki finish the job by stabbing Naoya in the back.
Maki and Mai’s mum finally said that she was happy because Maki did something right. She ended their collective suffering.
Maki asked why. Did she knew of Ogi killing Mai? Was she somehow trying to protect Maki?
should be dropping on crunchyroll soon where I will watch it again.
Edit: ep just dropped on crunchyroll!!!!!!

Watching Maki do it... I think I understand now.

Now I don’t have to explain to people anymore why Maki is my favorite character :D

Apparently, this.
The one Zenin who realizes the implications: "YOU LEFT ONE OF THE SISTERS TO DIE AND PISSED OFF THE OTHER ONE!?"
The zenin clan was made of dodos i swear. Zero sense of self-preservation.
barely have time to proccess Mai's fate before Maki goes and ends(?) the clan.
the music was surprisingly fitting as well. gave real Kill Bill vibes.
and I love how the first scene of the episode is Maki arriving and the final scene is her leaving
In the end she ended up killing and destroying an entire clan and becoming the cursed tool herself.

Just perfect, better than I could’ve hoped from reading the manga
It was a 10/10 homage.
also, this makes me want to rewatch kill bill lol.
We even have it fully uncut now.
Overall direction was perfect for this episode. Walking past the guy with Jinichi's severed head. Bawk, bawk, bawk, bawk, bawk.
And what did they did once he was one? Treat the one person that is just like him the same way they treated him. They had this coming and they have no one but themselves to blame for it
Maki wanted to know one thing - whether her mother knew Mai was being used as bait. Whether she was complicit in her sister's, her own daughter's death. Doesn't matter if she tried to stop Making from having the same fate, she forfeit her life with that decision.
SO, THERE'RE MORE DEATHS?
Maki:"I got you!"
of course not counting anybody that married into other clans and were no longer zenin
This episode was made with the utmost love.
All of my deepest gratitude to the MAPPA staff for this masterpiece of an episode.
The animation, the music, the direction, the voice acting, the emotions, everything came together to make this masterpiece of an episode. This catapulted Maki up my JJK character rankings to #1 and even into my personal favorites from all series. When Mai (RIP) said to destroy everything, Maki made sure her wish was fully fulfilled.
Maki vs the troops, then the Hen, then finally Naoya back to back to back, with all different styles (the B&W portion was so cool) was simply amazing. Then they decide to replay Naoya getting face caved in 4 different times and including a Mortal Kombat X-Ray vision of his skull breaking, come on man LMFAOOOOOOOO.
I believe the director of JJK is Gosso, (is that his name?) he is a generational talent, this episode I’ll keep on rewatching until the new episode next week and even when I’m bored. Shout out to all the animators and the composer for making this episode amazing as well.
My favorite JJK episode **BY FAR**. Absolute Cinema.
But I guess now Mai is forever a part of Maki.
More like, she didn't have any other choice. Mai was clear "I'm taking *all* the Cursed Energy with me"... that was a pact, Maki got the same constitution that made Toji the menace he was but the condition was to destroy everything about that damned family.
That's partially why twins are such a big deal but Zen'in failed to realize all the potential - Jujutsu sees them as one entity capable of forming a pact with "oneself". Since that's one of the only ways of getting extra power considering it's 95% born talent, that's incredibly broken cause half of "your" body, life expectancy, prowess... you can haggle a lot for that.
She knew Ogi was going to kill Maki, and didn't tell her about it, leading to her culpability in it and her inability to answer Maki's question. But on her death bed, she was freed from serving the whims of the Zenin clan.
They adapted Ranta and Jinichi's techniques so well GODDAMN. The way Maki just grinned and flexed and pushed through Ranta's technique was insane animated. And Naoya vs Maki was perfect as well!
The first half was paced a little too fast for my manga reader taste and perhaps this could've been spread across 1.5 episodes instead. Otherwise, I've been waiting three years for this arc to be animated and am so glad it got the love it deserved.
And yet screaming at Maki not to go to the vault was likely the only resistance she could offer after being so broken by decades of this abuse. Maki's question at the end is acknowledging that her mother, ever so slightly, tried to save her. What Maki was really asking for was any reason not to kill her mother. And her mother refused to give her any. Given what she does to Naoya afterwards, I think it's clear why.
It was always clear the Zenin Clan wasn't really a warm place, but we never knew how bad it really was and seeing these episodes just makes Gojos reply back then so much more impactful.
I definitely won't cry for anyone in the Zen'in clan; they were all assholes and not very good people, and they got what they deserved.
I didn't expect Naoya to be a fan of Toji, that was quite a surprise! I liked how he called Maki a fake and then, moments later, she punched him so hard that his skull was completely crushed.
Also, big shoutout to MAPPA for making this episode longer than usual, even though it didn't feel like it. On the contrary, it felt even shorter than usual xD
I'll later update this comment with my screenshot albums from the episode.
Was not prepared for that
**WHAT THE FUCK IS GONNA HAPPEN WHEN WE GET I TO THE COLONIES!?!?**
haha.
Because they’re twins, their Cursed Energy (CE) is shared between them and Maki also has Heavenly Restriction (HR) which exchanges having no CE for having enhanced physicality.
So when they were born :
Mai - Has weak CE. Also has a Cursed Technique (CT) but is limited cos her CE is weak.
Maki - Has weak CE + HR. But since she has CE (even if it’s weak), the HR is also weak.
In this episode :
Mai - Use up all her and Maki’s CE to create a sword using her CT and dies
Maki - No CE + HR. So her HR is now in full effect, hence the power boost.
Is this right ?
Also, does Mai taking and using all their CE contributed to her dying or was she dying from her wounds regardless ?
Also, Most heavenly Restricted still have low CE. Maki having low CE is the norm even for Heavenly Restricted. Having absolutely ZERO CE is something that was specific to Toji. Toji was the first of his kind they had ever seen.
