I want my sister to get into anime, but idk what anime to give her to start off with.
My sister is married and her husband and I are trying to get her to watch anime. She doesn't not want to watch it.
She just thinks it's a bit dorky and doesn't feel like starting anything. My brother-in-law tried to get her into Pokémon anime, but that is a slow starter and we really want her to get into Naruto because we're both fans of Naruto and we found this new Naruto trading card company and we want her to be included to it. So I come to this group to ask for wisdom of any good anime to get her start off. Because when we talked with her about Naruto, She said: "It's a bit dorky for me." So maybe like something with good scenery or something. Anything that might get her to like Naruto and maker her watch anime in general . Please and Thank You!!! (P.S. nothing with gore or anything too sad, she is a very sensitive type.)

Erased is based though, if she likes a good mystery/supernatural/thriller.
Aoi Takamoto dedicates her life to saving people as a doctor; after an accident she is reincarnated again as the evil princess Elise.

A movie is a better option to start, and usually something Ghibli works well. Princess Mononoke is high up there.
Otherwise you are pitching an interesting story moreso than an 'anime', so it will depend a lor on what sort of non-anime shows and movies she likes.
Priotitize her own tastes, like the types of genres she's into in other mediums, like movies, TV shows or books. Recommend highly acclaimed anime (or even your own favorite anime) that are predominantly within those genres she likes. It can also be smart to prioritize smaller anime or anime that more quickly "get to the point".
That's how you introduce non-anime fans to anime.
If you know her tastes or are able to find out what they are, do feel free to share here. People could help you better with that info.
I got my ex into anime with Cooking wars cause she liked Hells kitchen
It wasn’t about what I wanted and what I liked. It was finding what SHE wanted and would enjoy. Then when she got into it, it was easier for her to branch out and enjoy other things she definitely would not have enjoyed as an entry level thing.
For anime it was Fairy Tale. She fucking LOVES it and has watched damn near half of CrunchyRolls entire catalog at this point. For games it was stuff like Stardew Valley. Cue my surprise when she got more into Apex than I did lol. But if I started her with Apex or CoD or whatever she would have dropped it so fucking fast after getting annihilated endlessly since she couldn’t even aim at all lol
Lovely Complex
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War
Studio Ghibli movies like Kiki's Delivery Service or Howl's Moving Castle
Something relating to what she currently watches to get the foot into the door and spark her curiosity.
Apothecary Diaries is probably a safe bet for an intro anime.
Find shows that match her taste in live action media. If she likes drama and romance shows. Look into Josei anime.
Once you get her to try the medium then you can introduce her to other stuff.
Your goal shouldn't be to get her to like Naruto. You probably aren't going to succeed. And forcing someone to watch something they aren't interested in will just push them away from it.
I would recommend you start with something shorter and complete. Starting with shoujo is a good bet.
- fruits basket : romance, fantasy, solid storytelling
- Paradise kiss : fashion, romance, drama
- Violet evergarden : mature, emotional, strong storytelling
Then move to shounen
- code Geass : really interesting twists
- full metal alchemist brotherhood
The Legend of Hei, has 2 movies, and both are great
Yaiba Samurai Legend is a second adaptation of the Yaiba 1999,
now I never finished it personally, but the first few episodes were a good start to what seemed like a standard troupe of good guy bad guy.
Frieren Beyond Journeys End with season 2 just starting is a good choice too
Handyman Saitou in Another World about a locksmith not reincarnated but summoned to another world and has some funny parts and small b plot side story's like the ninja and the witch
Nothing too sad excludes just about any horror anime.
If she likes romance, show her Snow White with the Red Hair, Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity, Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian, Blue Box, Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie, I can't think of any others right now.
If she likes mystery, Fullmetal Alchemist (though it does have parts that are pretty upsetting, if you know you know) Erased (also can be depressing)
Power of Friendship: Fairytail (it is dorky) Yu Yu Hakusho
Adventure: Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic, Seven Deadly Sins (only up to a point and also a little dorky at times, and can be upsetting) Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Doctor Stone
Action: One Punch Man, Yu Yu Hakusho, May I Ask For One Last Thing, Undead/Unluck (this one can be particularly upsetting)
Comedy: Gintama, Cells at Work, Campfire Cooking in Another World With My Absurd Skill, An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride, May I Ask For One Last Thing, Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie
But a good place to start is, ask her what she likes to watch and find something within those parameters.
Ooh, something I forgot. Just about anything from Studio Ghibli is always a good pick.
Some people try to use Ghibli films but I think Ghibli is mostly a gateway to just more Ghibli
I think Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a good starter honestly. It has a concise story that ends conclusively even if it does have a sequel. [Madoka Magica meta-spoilers] >!Even if it being a magical girl show might make it look childish at first, the tone shift comes quickly enough.!< It's got some action but it also has a lot of drama. Even among shounen stuff, Spy x Family has wider appeal since it's less focused on action and has a lot of cute family dynamics.
My girlfriend used to say she didn't like anime after a friend basically pressured her to watch a bunch of Bleach when she was a teen. But doing it this way, I even got her to watch all of Gushing Over Magical Girls, and that was before we had even started dating.
EDIT: I second others recommending Apothecary Diaries too, it worked great with her too
>Naruto
Those are anime aimed at younger audiences.
I like Pokemon and Naruto too! I'm not being dismissive (but if I am, it is no intentional XD).
If you want to give a non-dorky impression, you're going to have to recommend some anime soap operas, not anime saturday morning cartoons. You want dramas (don't you dare claim that Naruto is a drama, I saw what Shippuden tried to pull, what a cheesy ending).
Stuff like "Erased" or "Legend of the Galactic Heroes".
Show them Naruto only after they are beyond saving, not when they can still escape weebdom.
