Can someone recommend a good zombie anime?

I'm searching for something where zombie's are the main theme throughout. If you've ever seen "High school of the dead", then that's exactly what i'm looking for. No superpowered zombies or mutants, just a regular zombie apocalypse from start to finish. It's really entertaining watching a breakout and seeing it till the end. Also, don't recommend manga or unfinished shows! Thanks <3

Hi Thick_Pickle4438, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

Zom 100

189IQ2026-01-23 03:46

Zom 100 is alright

Thick_Pickle44382026-01-23 15:57

Awesome show, thanks! But could be without the paint lol

cpitman2026-01-23 03:51

School Live. Don't do any research on it, you'll just spoil it for yourself.

Techyon52026-01-23 04:00

Darn, you beat me to it! Such a well-done show!

betty_quesadillas2026-01-23 04:14

Came here to say this ^^^ just don’t judge it based on the first episode watch at least 2

Thick_Pickle44382026-01-23 15:31

Thanks guys!

This-is-my-n0rp_acc2026-01-23 05:26

Ya this one caught me off guard, I figured it was going to be a nice little slice of life...

Deriniel2026-01-23 15:59

saw it but imho has really few zombie things about it and feels more an inverse slice of life, was kinda disappointed

Prestigious-Air36862026-01-23 04:04

Zom 100 popular choice

Bella_Mia_2026-01-23 04:16

Zombie Land Saga

Thick_Pickle44382026-01-23 15:31

isn't that about pop idols?

Bella_Mia_2026-01-23 19:02

Yes its really good

SuperDabMan2026-01-23 04:59

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is good, not a traditional zombie show.

OkSuggestion17222026-01-23 05:02

Not an anime, but also check out the live action Japanese movie "One Cut of the Dead". (Like "School Live", best experienced w/o prior research.)

Thick_Pickle44382026-01-23 15:58

:O oh i should add this to the post, i'll take movies too.

ExLuckMaster2026-01-23 05:17

I don’t know if they fit your criteria but check out the 3D Resident Evil movies if you’re a fan of the franchise. Outside the obvious mutated bosses they still feature the zombie mobs.

Thick_Pickle44382026-01-23 16:01

Kind of, think Train to Busan. But, i saw one RE animated movie, there's so many.

ExLuckMaster2026-01-23 19:34

There are 4 movies with a 3 episodes Netflix series so like 5 movies in total.

But okay I rarely see anyone recommends this one and I forgot about it until now but if you like romance+zombie then check out Sankarea.

Lower_Refrigerator_22026-01-23 06:54

Way you don’t have many options for anime. Zom 100 is really the only other one but that’s more comedy than anything.

You got tons of live action shows and films from Korean that are pretty damn good but anime not so much.

Only anime I’d say that’s on par with Highschool of the dead is “Kabaneri of the Iron fortress” and even that share more similarities with AoT.

It’s basically steampunk feudal Japan meets uber zombies.

Zombies are can only be killed by destroying the heart and the infection incases the heart in iron making them hard to kill by normal means.

The surviving cities are surrounded by huge walls and defenses with the only way to travel being the railway system in huge armored trains (the iron fortresses)

Very interesting show although short. It only ever got 1 season and a follow up film. Haven’t heard much on the manga either so I have no idea if it’s on going

Thick_Pickle44382026-01-23 16:02

I edited the description, i loved train to busan! I love gore!

Lower_Refrigerator_22026-01-24 05:47

Yeah train to bursan

alive (hashtag alive won’t let me type the symbol)

And the series kingdom (medieval Korea zombie series) and all of us are dead are solid series.

Even Sweet Home is pretty good which is closer to a monster outbreak than zombies. Basically when you get infected your monster for depends on your desires in life.
For example a model became pretty much your basic zombie eating everything because she had to starve herself for roles. Or a track star getting crazy super speed. Show decent but the WEBTOON it’s based on is better

Tokyo Majin

Korrailli2026-01-23 07:26

Nyaight of the Living Cat, cats are the zombies and turn people into more cats. A bit different, but still fun and feels like a campy zombie story.

Thick_Pickle44382026-01-23 16:00

When i run out i'll watch that too!

Inside-Battle-4482026-01-23 07:44

I don’t think attack on titan counts but I figured putting it in your head for a moment would be enough.

Thick_Pickle44382026-01-23 16:03

Oh, i seen it all. Who didn't? And it was cool for a few seasons, but then it became much less about titans and more about conspiracies.

Leiothrix2026-01-23 12:26

Zombieland Saga

I mean it is an idol show, but close enough.

Deriniel2026-01-23 14:24

I'm sorry but high school of the dead has a mix of ecchi, comedy and actually well done zombie themes that I don't think anything gets close.

Zoom 100 is good, and i loved how they used the art style to censor the blood instead of slapping a filter on it.

Others I can't really recommend, zombie movies are done better on tv shows sadly than anime, the whole horror genre is pretty lacking, they may be a few exception but there aren't many titles and even less ones worth watching

Thick_Pickle44382026-01-23 15:57

I like gore, why do japanese censor it? But, this show is awesome from EP 1, thanks!
