The first half is a masterpiece. I was so invested. The pacing was perfect, seeing David struggle as a street kid, the relationship with Maine... it was all grounded and emotional. That moon scene, perfect.

Then Episode 7 happens and the magic just kinda disappears.

The Timeskip was lazy. We go from David being a rookie to suddenly being this massive chrome junkie tank. We missed the whole journey. I didn't feel the weight of his upgrades because we didn't actually see him losing his humanity bit by bit. We were just told it happened.

It became a generic action show. The first half was about surviving Night City. The second half was about a magical gravity skeleton suit. It felt too much like a generic "chosen one" shonen anime instead of the gritty tragedy it started as.

Lucy became a plot device. She stopped being an active character and just spent the second half hiding secrets for "his protection." It was annoying. If they just talked to each other, half the problems wouldn't have happened.

David’s downfall was a speedrun. Watching Maine lose his mind was scary because it was slow. David’s cyberpsychosis felt rushed just because they ran out of episodes.

It’s still a good anime, maybe an 7.5/10 for the visuals and music alone. But those first 6 episodes were special. The last 4 were just loud noises and rushing to the sad ending.
