Need Anime Recommendations from a Pro

I’ve watched a large amount of anime across genres and eras, so manye not entry-level or obvious recommendations. I’m trying to identify high-quality, must-watch anime that still somehow slipped past me.

Below is a generalized list of anime of what I’ve already seen and liked to give a clear signal of my taste and avoid repeats. This is definitely not in order of preference.

One Piece

Dragon Ball (entire franchise)

Naruto / Shippuden

Bleach

Hunter x Hunter

My Hero Academia

Attack on Titan

Seven Deadly Sins

Solo Leveling

Magi: Labyrinth of Magic

InuYasha

Cowboy Bebop

Black Lagoon

Ninja Scroll

Afro Samurai

Tokyo Ghoul

Death Note

Ghost in the Shell (films + SAC)

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Code Geass

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

One Punch Man

Sword Art Online

Little Witch Academia

Delicious in Dungeon

All Studio Ghibli films (Howl’s Moving Castle, etc.)

Shin-chan

Redo Healer

I'm sure I've missed plenty, but please let me know if there is something I must watch! 😸

Hi ThereIsNoPill6, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

ThereIsNoPill62026-01-23 11:21

Nice list! Ive seen most of these just forget to mention them. Moriarty the parrot looks super cool. Dororo and a couple other. Noiiiice 😁

Ill_Reference5822026-01-23 11:46

Playful-Airport77772026-01-23 11:16

Darker Than Black

Psyco-Pass

ThereIsNoPill62026-01-23 11:25

Darker than Black looks riveting! Psyco-pass looks cool, kinda cyberpunk 🤘

Playful-Airport77772026-01-23 11:30

I only enjoy their first seasons though, the following ones kinda lack the bite. See if you think otherwise.

Also, check out Gangsta. And Gintama.

Bocchi_theGlock2026-01-23 11:19

Go through top of MAL, whatever looks like it fits you

Gurenn Lagann, Parasyte, Steins Gate are also older must-watch classics.

Definitely Mob Psycho 100, comedy & action. Give Kaguya Sama a try, hilarious and the first romcom or anything romantic that didn't feel cliche.

Haikyuu is probably your style, though I've never watched it, sports anime. Ranking of Kings for a really well done show with different art style, One Punch Man first two seasons for beat-em-up action and satire.

Because of your bottom choice: Re:Zero for brutal, beloved isekai with great animation. Lesser known but beloved: Combatants will be Dispatched, satire/comedy isekai, taken less seriously, lower production value. Made in Abyss is another beloved dark fantasy, twisted horror, fascinating worldbuilding, Ghibli vibes, has some similarities to Delicious in Dungeon. A few weird scenes due to author creepiness still sneaking through, but animation studio did an amazing job fixing that all.

ThereIsNoPill62026-01-23 11:30

O yeah Parasyte is one of my favs. I've alot of those 😅 Never seen Mob Psycho. Not the biggest one punch fan but could be interesting!

vanellopevnschweetz2026-01-23 11:20

You need some Bocchi and Dragon Maid in your life!

ThereIsNoPill62026-01-23 11:36

Dragon Maid looks so cute, must watchhh 🥹

faithfulheresy2026-01-23 11:22

It looks to me like you should dive into the mecha genre. Plenty of shows to check out there.

Zenshu?

ThereIsNoPill62026-01-23 11:40

gab_sjo2026-01-23 11:40

Steins Gate

Monster

Jormungand

The rainbow

The Prince of Tennis

Kuroko in the basket

Midori is not afraid

Toradora

Lovely complex

Onegai teacher

Samurai X (new version)

Proud_Bonus_26202026-01-23 12:13

I highly suggest you watch vinland saga. the charater development is literal insanity and it's not just ur basic shonen. it's a whole journey and the second season hits different. definitely a pro pick for real.

dfiekslafjks2026-01-23 12:22

When you browse by year the high quality shows will naturally rise to the top. If you exclude genres like Slice of Life, Romance, Music, it's even faster. With sites like AniList it's basically impossible to miss shows like Vinland Saga, Chainsaw Man, Eminence in Shadow, etc.

Well my friend you are in luck, after years of ignoring depression, never having friends or going out much I have watched a ton of anime. Let me add some gems you have missed, they are not ranked in order. If you can try and watch them subbed, not dubbed. The voice actors in japan put a ton of effort into what they do, and there performance is miles ahead of dubbed.

* Sousou no Frieren
* Clevatess
* Silent Witch
* Dandadan
* Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis
* Kaiju No 8
* Chainsaw Man
* Dorohedoro
* Goblin Slayer
* Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!
* Gurren Lagann
* I Parry Everything
* I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability
* Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon
* Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night
* Mob Psycho 100
* Overlord

This last one is a wild card but honestly I'm considering putting it in my top 10 of all time depending on how the ongoing s2 works out.
Do you remember playing pretend as a kid? Maybe even playing pretend power rangers? Well what if you kept doing it till you where 40 because you thought Alien monsters might try and take over. IT'S TO FUNNY.

Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider

Local_Creme84662026-01-23 20:01

Space Battleship Yamato 2199(greatest remake of all time). The franchise in general is Evangelion and Gainax’s biggest influence. Even Hideaki Anno admits that Evangelion and Gainax/Trigger/Khara wouldn’t existed if it wasn’t for Space Battleship Yamato. It even influence Cowboy bebop.

onzichtbaard2026-01-23 21:39

maybe you'd like outlaw star, though it wasnt for me

kaiji ultimate surivor is a bit slow but definitely worth a watch

91 days is a bit messy in its story but its worth sticking with it imo

shiki is a bit lesser known these days so maybe you missed it

the redline movie for if you want a mindless spectacle

witch hunter robin is an anime not many have seen and i like the vibe

do you have an anime list? those can really help with recommendations if you have seen lots of anime
