With your choice of no. 1 anime of the year, I'm scared to know what they would consider *strong* degeneracy.
[](#watashiworried)
One of these things is not like the others.
MAL took so long to fix the year bug (counting end years other than 2025 if you didn't put month and day) I didn't notice I had a stray that shouldn't be there (Future Boy Conan which according to MAL @12:34 the 26 eps is 2 minutes longer than 37 eps of Marco Polo I watched, complete lies as that is usually 26+ mins but live-action mix which MAL always times weirdly).

>Our solution: [**DISCOTEK DEEP DIVES**](https://www.mediaocd.com/category/discotek-deep-dive). Every month, we'll add 20-30 titles from the Discotek Media collection, prioritizing ones that are getting hard to find. We'll have them up for pre-order for a few weeks before we get the inventory to ship them out, so you can make sure you get one.
List of newly OOP titles can be found [here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/discotekmedia/comments/1qk8wlj/newly_out_of_print_titles/)
Not usually in CGDCT, SoL, RomCom, nor Idol series.
And to add, what about for ones aimed for women? Fantasy ones that is (like the Twisted Wonderland anime)
Cute Girls Doing Cute Things, a collective name for usually chill and happy shows about, well, a group of cute anime girls doing an activity, usually at a high school club. One of the most well known and archetypical would be *Laid Back Camp*, where the girls do winter camping, making campsite food, travelling to neat places, etc.
What about from something like the Twisted Wonderland anime or even Frieren? I don't know if Frieren has any well intentioned extremists.. But these are the two animes I'm currently watching lately
**Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note**
It was alright. I went in hoping to learn more about characters like Flatt (for Fate/Strange Fake), but ended up learning basically nothing about him.
The show does this pet peeve of mine with mystery animes. Early episodes that exist mainly to introduce characters or concepts, wrapped in a one-off mystery to fill the runtime. On paper, it’s a middle ground, a way to balance episodic structure with gradual progress, but it really doesn’t work for me. The mystery feels superficial, like they only exist to justify introducing X character or X concept. It reminds me a lot of The Apothecary Diaries' format. Do I really need to sit through an entire mystery about metalsmiths just to understand the concept of metal weakening due to poor composition that later serves as a plot device for a failing beam that almost kills someone in future episodes?
That’s how the early El-Melloi cases feel. Take the episode with Gray, Reines, and Luvia for example. Its purpose was to establish the gift Gray bought while fleshing out side characters like Reines and Luvia. But as a mystery episode, it was mediocre.
But like I said, it’s a pet peeve. It’s a personal gripe that others might not share. Ideally, I’d prefer it if they either made the episodes entirely standalone and detached from the finale, similar to The Mystic Archives of Dantalian, which results in higher-quality individual mysteries that aren't burdened by the “main” plot, or made the mystery span the entire show, like Odd Taxi, Baccano, The Eccentric Family, or MyGO!!!!!.
Overall, I’d give it a 7/10. It feels very spin-off-ish in terms of necessity. It's like the Megumin spin-off. It’s great side content if you love the character, but it's not strictly essential viewing.
\----
**Inu-Oh**
The anime I’d watched over the past six months was pretty dry, and I usually just wait for one or two real masterpieces to appear in my watchlist each year. This is one of them. Inu-Oh is a masterpiece. I finally found a movie that’s on par with, if not better than, the Revue Starlight movie. *(This is basically a callback for people who get annoyed when I use my all-time favorite film as a personal benchmark, like I did with the Reze movie, which didn’t beat the Revue Starlight Movie btw. I do, in fact, rank movies above my favorite if they genuinely blow me away. It's a benchmark for a reason)*
The story is solid enough that the ending genuinely made me tear up. You can tell the director understands how powerful performing arts are. The film fully commits to its visuals and music, delivering long, unbroken performances so we’re basically seeing exactly what the in-universe audience sees. The best part is how dramatic this film is. The deaths are exceptionally dramatic, and the whole film feels closer to “proper cinema” than a standard anime movie.
And if you noticed, I didn’t mention Masaaki Yuasa at all in the review. I only realized it was his work after watching, so I went in with zero bias.
10/10
\----
Unrelated, but what do you mean there’s a Honobu Yonezawa (Shoshimin) × Kurosawa (yes, THAT Kurosawa) movie? I haven’t even finished the Library Committee series yet, let alone touched his other stuff like Kokurojo.
[They named their protagonist Shoe] >!Shoe summarizes the two rules of Void extraction; Shoe tries to put this into practice, ends up grabbing a classmate's left boob; news of this act of sexual assault spreads around school and he becomes a pariah; turns out Inori just hadn't told him about the eye contact rule as a joke or something; Shoe runs around school extracting people's voids, it doesn't work; then the guy they're looking for just kinda conveniently shows up and reveals himself; Shoe goes "I know you're with the bad guys, but I'm sure it's all fine. Just pinky promise you won't tell anyone about me?" the guy immediately goes to the cops and tells them about Shoe; the cops immediately find Shoe and arrest him.!<
It's actually kind of admirable just how random the plot of this show is. I'm not sure there has been a single instance so far where the writers planned more than like two minutes ahead.
[Anime title]>!Darwin's incident!< has had its fair share of various criticism, but the weirdest I've seen is "the writing is dumb, because the terrorists wouldn't convince anyone to join their cause this way", and normally I would just ignore it but I've seen MANY people say things like that...
Since when do terrorists do that? Convince people to join their cause with their terrorist attacks?
What cause did you join after 9/11? Did you join Al-Qaeda? What did the terrorists convince you of?
Terrorists (be it in real life, or in that anime) don't expect their opponents to go "Well they blew us up, maybe there's something good to their movement after all..."
Sometimes it's to force people by fear, sometimes it's just an acceptable act of war (in their mind), sometimes it's not even about their opponents, it's about 'Their side', they want to embolden those who already believe in their cause (to make them go from simple believer, to extremist), to show them "We are able to fight against our enemy, now is the time", etc...
And we see a lot of that in this anime, like when [spoiler from that anime]>!after one of their attacks, one of their member expressed some doubts/concerns, but they used that to make them believe even harder in their cause, make them even more motivated, erase their doubts (brainwashing) and so on...!<
I've seen a lot of valid reasons to criticize this anime (some I agree with, some I don't) but this one is super baffling to me. I'm not sure if they simply didn't think it through, or if they just hate the show and came up with anything to criticize it.
To me that's like saying about a gambling anime "It makes no sense to gamble because you're more likely to lose!" or I don't know, if an anime character goes to a prostitute, "It makes no sense because she does not love him so what's the point having loveless sex?"
Ok but millions of people do these things regardless, just like terrorists do their terrorist things even if it doesn't bring their enemy to their cause.
[](#bigthink)
I don't know if this is just a symptom of watching so much seasonal anime (where there's usually little-to-no closure and endings tend to be deliberately open-ended in case future seasons get green-lit), but it was also so satisfying to watch something with a story that constantly built towards an actual definitive ending.
Was also surprised by how long the movie was (at almost 2 1/2 hours): it could have easily been stretched into a 10-episode series with very little extra work, but felt this format also worked really well, especially for telling a very tight, self-contained story.
Yeah, that's the advantage of standalone titles, especially one that's meant as a single instalment instead of a part of a franchise.
Speaking of complete shows, I recommend '**Love Through a Prism**' that's out just last week, although it's in a series form instead of film. It's a batch drop so you could binge them now.
I still remember plenty of discussion about the fansubs of different groups, their translation philosophies, etc.
But today I can't find any information about that sort of thing. Many releases have official subtitles from netflix etc., which seem to be rather bad translations by my standards (too "westernized", too inaccurate, no translator notes)
Are there any websites/groups where the quality/difference of fansubs is discussed and where I might even find those subs? Or are people just using netflix/crunchyroll-subtitles nowadays?
If you understand Japanese so well that you can disparage the work of professional translators, why are you even bothering with subtitles?
For new releases, yes pretty much. Almost everything gets official subs released the moment a new episode airs, and most viewers aren't interested in waiting potentially weeks or longer for a slightly better translation (and most translators aren't interested in putting a ton of effort into redoing someone else's job). If you wait for the BD releases, you'll sometimes get groups that clean up and restyle the official subs a bit, but not normally anything more than that.
When watching older (at least a decade or so) series, you're much more likely to run into legacy fansubs, which people will often copy across and restyle to higher-quality releases. It can be hard though to even know sometimes who the original translator was, let alone to find any actual information about them.
New fansubs are usually limited to either popular series with exceptionally poor official subs, obscure old series that have never been translated, and the handful of new releases (mostly shorts and the like) that don't get officially licensed.
> Are there any websites/groups where the quality/difference of fansubs is discussed
Most of them closed down or shifted away from that aspect after fansubs declined in popularity. AniDB lists the various releases for series, but they rarely get ratings/comments on them, and it can be hard to tell what is an actual new translation and what is just a re-encode. There's also [FansubDB](https://fansubdb.com/wiki/Winter_2025) which tracks which seasonals get fansubs, but doesn't have comments on quality or anything.
> and where I might even find those subs
Subreddit rules mean we aren't allowed to say here.
Anime is an art form, 99% of the conversation being screenshots from the latest episode or "what should I watch" kinda sucks. It's not really the platform's fault or the fault of the users, but any sort of critical analysis or review content has died out.
The Internet (and society in general) is increasingly polarized so I feel like you either have to align 100% or it's a downvote from most people. There are people out there still creating analytical content but it never really catches on.
I miss old school discussion forums. Those discussions could go on for YEARS without an issue.
/R/anime wasn't always like this either. The anime community is like 10-20x the size it was 10 years ago, I think it's partially having mostly "new' fans and the fault of how reddit is set up. I personally won't respond to threads that are older than like 6+ hours knowing that basically nobody will see or reply to it.
The number of unique commenters on this sub has been pretty much stagnant for like 6~7 years now, if not more. There's just a shitton of more lurkers, and honestly I'm sceptical even of that when taking upvote numbers into account.
I do think that the commenters here have gotten a lot more casual as well over the years.
Nested comments are one thing I do enjoy compared to a linear forum thread, but I'd take what I can get. Looking at MAL's forum it doesn't seem like the kind of community I'd enjoy though and I have yet to find something that fits my taste like Tildes does more generally. If I ever make my own I can only hope I'd be able to draw a decent crowd.
massive massive walls of text. people agreeing and chelleging. people pulling from 50 years of gundam backstory to stitch together ideas. everything you want.
maybe the shows you watch just dont have fan bases that like thinking deeper? what are your top 3 shows in the last 3 years? what is your top 3 all time?
Gundam is a good example of a show that has a dedicated and intelligent fan base. It being a 50+ year old franchise, I don't think that you can exactly extrapolate that to the anime community as a whole.
[](#deadtired)
Maybe I should drop a couple of shows
[](#schemingsaten)
So far there hasn't been much actual detective mystery stuff in the cases and it's more about character and setting backgrounds and introduction. And it doesn't help that I don't find the main character and her quirks very endearing.

Keeping up with 15'ish shows without falling behind on anything, and I'm slowly checking out the remaining ones (pretty much all episode 1 drops)
That second cour really did a number on my impression of it such that I forgot just how good the first one was.
The girls’ vibe in the latest OP is reminding me of something, especially [this segment](https://youtu.be/QgIQbeRzkkc?si=53eFpH0ixYfjZuQO&t=29s), but I haven’t been able to put my finger on it for the last two days.
I have watched all villaness animes, umamusume,Guild receptionist, love live, wandering witch elina, meiruko chan, slime 300,reincarnted as sword, yuru camp, reborn to master blade, kaguya sama, acro trip, lycrois recoil, symphogear, medeka box.
lots of action. 3 MC are all women. supporting cast is a solid mixture. does not require viewer to have gundam knowledge.
this should be pretty close to perfect, honestly. enjoy
*Akiba Maid Wars* - asks the age old question "What if maid cafés are the yakuza". Note, not *run by* the yakuza. *Are* the yakuza.
*Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex* - the Major is a classic "action heroine", and while her design can be argued, her status as a "strong female character" is undoubted. *SAC* is the version of *GitS* where she does share the most of her lead status with her male Section 9 team, but it is also one of the best entries in the franchise.
*Seirei no Moribito* - Balsa's story of balancing being a strong lone surviving warrior with being a maternal figure for the prince she is protecting is one of the best female led fantasy stories I've seen.
*Twelve Kingdoms* - classic Isekai from before it all became *narou-kei*. High school girl is sucked away alongside two schoolmates she barely know to a fantasy realm, where she's supposed to be the chosen queen. Turns out becoming queen in a foreign land where a lot of people see no need for a new ruler is a bit harder than it might sound.
Black Lagoon (more toward ensemble)
You don't really need to have seen any Lupin before (it was my first one). The wikipedia level summary of the characters is enough.
Cute elves from non-isekai anime ☺️🤩 post?
I’ve realized that I get confused or lost pretty easily when watching sometimes, to deal with this, I’ve developed a habit: I watch full story recaps on YouTube before I even start the actual show.
So far, I’ve watched summaries for Dragon Ball (Classic to Super), Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, Death Note, Jujutsu Kaisen, Gintama, and even Neon Genesis Evangelion.
I feel like knowing the plot beforehand helps me focus. Since I already know the "what," I can relax and enjoy the "how"—the animation, the voice acting, and the iconic fight scenes that a 20-minute summary can't fully capture.
[](#cup6)
like, i can imagine some episodes that are structured around raising a confusing mystery and then resolving it later to give you a bit of a roller coaster of intrigue, so you'd be missing out on that if you just looked up the answer beforehand
But I don't think this was what they meant lol. It's a little weird of a way to go about it, but if it works for you then fuck it lol. I've even heard of people that don't ever engage with a series but just read through the wiki pages because they're interested in the "lore" lol.
- I don't know if it's lame
- I don't know why it matters if it's lame
You can watch anime starting from the last episode if you enjoy it more this way, no one can stop you even if we think it's weird.
It's certain an unusual approach, but that's not something anyone should care about.
I haven't watched anime for more than a few episodes in decades until last year when I finally watched Dragon Ball Super.
When I was young I watched DBZ, Gundam Wing, and Cowboy Bebop on Cartoon Network. I watched Lazarus weekly when it aired and wasn't impressed. I did like DBS though.
I tried Hunter x Hunter, Attack on Titan, and My Hero because they're popular but the main characters are so whiney I can't stand them and lose interest/actively want them to die so they'll stop whining and maybe we can get some hardasses.
Any recommendations based on any of that? I don't necessarily want gory/adult things as I'd like to be able to watch shows without worrying about my kids seeing, though I'dtake those recommendations too.
I'm thinking about watching more Gundam or DB movies, or maybe even starting with the OG Dragon Ball since I never watched it. But I'd like to broaden my horizons as well.
Also, completely forgot I watched Castlevania and Devil May Cry. Not sure if those are anime but I liked them.
Thank you!
Should be a fun season for chaos enjoyers.
[](#evilgrin)
episode 3 was good in particular; i don't know who worked on it, but the character animation was so fluid and expressive
like, this sequence at the beginning of the episode:
https://x.com/silvpokkii/status/2014422196760793100
and this sequence at the climax was slick:
https://www.sakugabooru.com/post/show/298634
Maybe this is just aura farming the anime. Like, I guess I forgot at some point that S2 was able to look good when it wanted to. I thought I knew what happened at the end of S2, but I guess not. Then again, does it even matter? The colors on the screen are pretty and the aura sufficiently farmed.
[Here](https://imgur.com/a/tZsN5XM) are my votes in case anyone is curious. For the genre awards Adventure is by far the weakest for me, nothing above a 7/10 there from me. On the other hand, Suspense and SoL are incredibly stacked. Animation is kinda hard too, there‘s a bunch of other noms that are all deserving of a win too.
Meanwhile for me, SoL is the only category I didn't vote for because I've watched literally zero of the nominations.
[](#azusalaugh)
I'd add that Comedy is also stacked.
That romance category though. Seeing WataTabe next to all other candidates gave me mood whiplash.
To explain this: Watatabe was nominated for suspense originally. So what must have happened is that the public didn't vote for it in suspense, the suspense jury didn't take it either so the juries of its secondary genre allocations got the option of taking it instead, and so romance took it (and if this works like how the actual voting is supposed to work, this is based on being the best in this category, not the best at being a romance anime). Which in this case does lead to confusing results.
SoL is probably my favourite category based on the line up.
I didn't even know what to vote for because my top 2 didn't get a nomination lol. I went with Shoushimin, which I'm not even sure is my 3rd favorite or not.
Action category were certainly my least favourite awards genre. Didn’t even vote for any of the nominees.
> wow these are the worst awards nominees ever

Shoshimin OP Martian for Best Music Video and Best OP, and Ave Mujica for Drama are both no brainers. My Suspense vote goes to Shoshimin. It’s literally the only show that can make a simple conversation in a family restaurant about tomato spaghetti feel tense.
Osanai Yuki for Best Supporting Character is an easy pick too. I saw on a site somewhere that Osanai Yuki is the winner for Best Character.
Orb getting nominated for Cinematography…. is certainly a choice considering their production value.
Shoshimin missing a cinematography slot feels unlucky, especially when you look at the storyboards they released a while back. There’s also a great write up on [Sakugablog ](https://blog.sakugabooru.com/2025/12/31/shoushimin-series-cinematography/)about its cinematography.
I’m kind of annoyed I couldn’t put Chainsaw Man Reze Arc in Soundtrack. That was one of my favorite parts of the film. Now it feels like I’m only recognizing it for the action, which is a bit meh as a non-action enjoyer.
The most unexpected pick on the list is Hana Shura (Flower and Asura) getting a spot for Best VA. Her recitations in the show were glorious, and kind of funny on a meta level when you realize the characters in the anime are also praising her (Hana’s) voice.
There weren’t enough nominations for Cinderella Gray.

To clarify, all movies are not allowed in production categories (except for OP/ED)
My first show is Tamon's B-Side. This is one I skipped when planning my season, but added later after seeing people (u/_Ridley) shill it.
One episode down and it's... ok. Like I said, I wasn't interested in the beginning; idol is not really my thing. [But] >!I can't do this anymore. That show is fucking hilarious. I'm generally positively disposed to shows that do that manic internal monologue thing (April Showers being a recent example), but when it leaks out and becomes the outer persona too? I'm dead. Gloomyhara is a fantastic counter to the oshi culture and Kinoshita's obsession over his public persona. So yeah, [this is me](https://i.imgur.com/J5zp2N1.jpeg).!<
And if you disagree, [too bad](https://i.imgur.com/Y2G7uru.jpeg).

But bright side: yours is also a Wednesday show, and since I watch by days (helps me stay organized), it'll be up shortly.

The VAs are absolutely killing this one, especially Hayami
[Link to the category allocation sheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wEi6tj3GvirQ7ARmwuSsLSF6gT96EPHVracLJ1PlGnc/edit?gid=0#gid=0), since I want to have this for myself
Breakdown by category:
Category | Watched / 10 | Vote | Thoughts
---|---|----|----
**Genre**|
||
Action | 2 | Solo Leveling | The only other show I've seen here is DanDaDan and I dont think anyone wants to recap my opinions on SL vs DDD. I knew what my vote here was from day 1 and it hasnt changed.
Adventure | 5 | DanMachi V | This is Pain. DanMachi didnt even make my top 5 when I was nominating in this category and it's head and shoulders above everything else I've watched here. [](#smoke)
Comedy | 6 | Bad Girl | Should come as no surprise as I've been making my voice heard about how good Bad Girl is since the day I watched it. This is easily the strongest category for me, again, just like every other year. Not only did I have the most nominees for it, but also the most watched shows in it and probably the highest average score of all categories. Although somehow Spy x Family is here, again, which means I'm obligated to complain about SxF being here, again, just like every other year!
Drama | 2 | 🐿️ | Much like bad girl, I've also been Monica's Strongest Super Soldier since day 1. I dont think there is a single show out there that does the shy timid girl trope better than this.
Romance | 2 | Watanare | This is the only category so far where I have more than 1 show competing for my pick, as both MDUD and Watanare are very close for me, so I might change my mind in the future.
SoL | 3 | Food Court | Much like the above, Ruri Rocks and Food Court are close for me, but Im honestly leaning way more towards Food Court. This category missing [The Daily Life of a Middle-Aged Online Shopper in Another World](https://anilist.co/anime/180292/Arafou-Otoko-no-Isekai-Tsuuhan-Seikatsu/) is fucking criminal.
Suspense | 4 | Apothecary Diaries | If you've seen my top 10, you know that at the top of the list stand Apothecary Diaries and ReZero as my #1 & #2 spot and they are both in here, probably as public votes, but nontheless I am happy here. [](#feelingloved)
**Production** |||*Shill me why I should vote for your show here!*
||
VA | 6 | TsudaKen | TsudaKen
OP | 10 | ApoDia | No strong feelings about any of the OPs
ED | 10 | DanDaDan | Much like OPs, this is the one I hated the least out of them.
**Character**|
|||
Lead | 4 | MaoMao | See below
Support | 2 | Rouran | Rouran, my queen, I will literally die for you.
Ensemble | 4 | Orb | The snubbing of Bad Girl makes me want to commit war crime beyond your wildest imagination.
**Main** |
||
AotY | 5 | Apothecary Diaries | On the one hand, I always knew the public would disappoint me with voting mid & midder from summer as AotY material. But at least the jury will surprise me with shows I don't exp- oh.
---
That about wraps it up, I've skipped a lot of categories where I will either vote later after watching some things (main), or am giving my space for you to advertise your shows to me (production).

I watched two episodes of it when it came out before dropping it but didn't remember a thing about it, and picking it up again that's apparently for good reason: the first episode seems pretty generic to start as far as school romances go. Sure the plot and characters aren't exactly like any of the others but it feels like something I've seen a hundred times before — maybe literally at this point, I haven't counted.

I participated in the u/KendotsX hosted 1999 rewatch back in October 2024, which lasted until January 2025. I was always planning on jumping to 2011 (and eventually, catch up with the manga as well) after finishing the original anime, but I didn't want it to be immediately after. The original anime was good enough (alright, with the exception of the last set of OVAs...) that I wanted it to be on my mind for a little longer. I didn't want to move on to the new shiny toy yet.
Then came u/Shocketheth who made me SHOCK by announcing a 2011 rewatch just a couple of months after. I was initially planning on joining, I've been to a bunch of Shock's rewatches so I know how good of a host he is. Turns out, it was indeed too soon for me, so I couldn't find the motivation by the time it started.
Exactly 12 months after starting 1999, in October 2025, I finally decided to start the remake. This was purely coincidental, but even more coincidental is that I caught up to where 1999 left off at in January 2026, *also* exactly 12 months after we finished 1999.
Anyways, my quick thoughts are that the first 26 episodes of the remake are a terrible, incredibly bland adaptation of the manga with no personality or substance. It starts to find its footing with Heavens Arena, and REALLY finds the sweet spot with Yorknew and Greed Island (although it saddens me they cut out a lot of scenes from the latter). I don't think it will reach the highs of Furuhashi's original 62 episodes, but *damn* the remake is really good right now. ~~we don't talk about what they did to Kite~~
Really excited for what the future of the series has in store for me! I've heard legends of [Chimera Ant] >!Gon losing his humanity while Meruem gains his!<, whatever the hell that means. That's going to be fun.
It's been a year already? [](#spinning)
>alright, with the exception of the last set of OVAs...
~~We don't talk about those~~
>REALLY finds the sweet spot with Yorknew and Greed Island
Agreed, Yorknew had some tough competition from 99, and 2011's version did not disappoint. Looking forward to your thoughts on the rest of the series, as it keeps improving.

I normally prefer uniform list rather than top heavy, but hey, if the gods want to send down gifts, I'm ready to be bribed:
* F/SF and Ikoku Nikki are my new favourites, which works well, since they're basically polar opposites in every way, one's a subtle, focused drama that plays on every string in my heart, and the other's a loud ensemble cast playing rock. I couldn't be happier with both adaptations (I was a bit worried that F/SF would rush around the corners after Whispers of Dawn, but I appreciate the thorough dedication to detail in the anime).
* Golden Kamuy: S4 was already my favourite so far, and this one's aiming to top it off, all the sweet, sweet payoffs are coming together [](#justright)
* Jujutsu Kaisen: the manga was kind enough to leave a lot of room for improvement, and it looks the anime staff have fully moved in there.
* Jigokuraku: I prefer the first half of the series, but it's still fun.
* Sentenced to be a Hero: The execution has been good so far, which I appreciate, even the goddess isn't annoying (she's no Frederica), but I hoped for a bit more from a concept that's basically a [thematic gold mine:] >!glorified conscription!<
* Samurai Troopers: I haven't seen the original yet, but I was intrigued since Yoichi Fujita is directing this, and it's been good so far, I like the style it's going for, but the cast could use some improvement.
* Tamon: I have some mixed feelings on this one, since I had a good time watching it for the most part. Hayamin's character is great, and I like the idea of a fan and idol supporting each other (a bit of wish fulfillment isn't that bad), but [I don't find the] >!depressed kid with no support network in an exploitative job to be that funny of a joke, nor does the "but he brings smiles to our faces" emotional throughline work for me. Granted, that's a general issue I have with idol anime.!<
* Kimengumi: why even remake it, if you're just gonna rush a comedy series while looking like ass?
It's got some really fun character animation, some nice gags, and solid boards. The cast and designs are fun, even if Kaguya is a tad annoying. On the production front, it is definitely one of Colorido's better offerings (and that is saying a lot). That being said Colorido's latest films have all lived and died on their story, and CPK's is...
The first act is pretty fine. The story is basic and I'll be the first to bitch about wanting a tad more cinematography in my works (so feel free to ignore me there), but this film is 2.5 hours and definitely didn't need to be. By the middle its starting to really feel that bloat and continues to throw out ideas that without strong central theming just ring hollow. By the final act it had started to lose me a lot more, and some of those late-stage revelations might have worked better in a more concise film with a better grasp of what it's even trying to say. It starts to feel a bit rushed and lost by the end, and I will remind you that its already pushing 2.5 hours as is.
I'm gonna still give it a comfortable 7/10, as I'm a production whore and this one is worth at least a good half of itself for that alone. There's a better film buried in here though, and I can't in good faith shake the feeling that a few small revisions (and not so small cuts) could have helped this one out a lot.
[](#seasonalthink)
8/10 is a good score, but I need room on the simple scale for the works that go beyond that. The one's that are more than just great and that do something with themselves that really just wows you. That being said, they're more or less just victory laps at that point. I'm not gonna nitpick a show I really liked just to explain down from a 10. I don't want to make the whole conversation about the CSM movie's sometimes disorienting action, Bocchi's very middling CGI performances, or even *Frieren* S1's lackluster second cour, because I do think overall that all of them are really good pieces despite that. Perfection should not be the enemy of good. I will absolutely celebrate those series that I think go beyond to those higher scores, but I'm tired of setting *that* as the bar and being let down in the process.
The best example I can give for this is Dungeon Meshi, I think. Absolutely fantastic, great worldbuilding, really fun characters, good adventure all around. For whatever reason, despite having no reason to dislike it, it just didn't resonate with me emotionally, so *for my own personal enjoyment* I ended up giving it an 8/10. I acknowledge it's better produced and probably just strictly better than some things I gave a 9/10, but in the end I'm not gonna try to be fully objective with my ratings.
Then a 10/10 is almost definitely a show that just happened to hit me personally on an emotional level, rather than a show that's necessarily better than a 9/10 if you try to analyze it on any kind of a technical level.
5 is the median and so I use that as the baseline for average. It gives me multiple tiers both above and below average. It allows flaws to be balanced by strengths. It provides room for much more expression than a passing/failing grade.

I wanna get back into watching anime but I'm having a hard time deciding what to watch do you have any suggestions.
Top5
1- Monogatari series 9.98
2- Code geass 9.95
3- Mushoku tensei 9.91
4- CallOfTheNight/QuintessentialQuintuplets 9.9
5- Hells paradise 9.88
valid in what way? if it is *your* top 5 anime, i am not sure how my opinion (or any one else’s opinion for that matter) could invalidate your list. maybe at best i could poke holes in some of the anime that you have regarded highly. but even then, i cannot take away the feelings you had for the anime when you watched them.
Well no, because there's 6 anime on it.
My understanding is that Greed is the sin of over consumption of material things while Gluttony is the sin of excessive eating. However, since watching Akuma-Kun, the meanings seem to blur, and I can't seem to understand the interpretation of each sin in layman's terms according to the show. Help?
Really good story and fun animation and pretty drawing quality. The music was not exactly something I will probably look up Youtube vids for, but I liked the songs. Also \[Cosmic Princess Kaguya\]>!surprise yuri and surpise happy ending for a "Bamboo Cutter" story.!< It feels like it was written in the era when the whole "metaverse" thing was still the next big thing... you see similar stuff about massive shared online "verses" in much earlier anime such as Summer Wars too.
