A tangent, but does "This Monster Wants to Eat Me" pick up later on? I was down for some toxic yuri melodrama, but after the first two episodes and I wasn't grabbed by either the characters or the production.
Is the rest of the season in the same mold as the first episodes? If so, it can still be a good show, but probably isn't for me.

I'd say it doesn't change the mold that much, but it builds the story on top of what was established on the first few episodes and the drama intensifies once we get to know each of the three main leads better
If you enjoy japanese folklore, the three youkai that appear (Shiori included) are a feast to the eyes and the mind
It was my favorite anime of the year, but I also understand it isn't for everyone. If Hinako's situation, and how it affects those around her, isn't your cup of tea, I can understand you not feeling it (then give Ninkoro a try, it's the opposite of this one and still very good xD)

On one hand the pacing of the first two episodes is a bit slow and it picks up after that, on the other hand it's still the same vibe and characters. You could try the 3rd episode, it's a great episode and you see a lot of the characters, but if you're fundamentally not into it it's just not for you

I think the novels are definitely the best way to go. The story is told through Sorawo, an unreliable narrator and bitter person, and a lot of the horror fucks with her perception to the point sometimes she won't even realize her mind is being affected by the Otherside.

A few months ago I saw the PV and it caught my attention so much that I read the entire manga.
If the production turns out to be good, this yuri will very likely become one of the genre’s favorites.

There are other stories I wish would get an adaptation, but they’re under 2-3 volumes. I’d love {**The Villainess’s Bride**} (Fantasy, Revenge, Wolf Girl x Villaness} to be adapted if it survives. {**I Want to Make the Black Knight Fall in Love with Me**} is only three volumes, but my delusional hope would be the mangaka is heavily involved and we would get anime-only additional content.
I’m still curious about it, so I’m giving it a one episode watch to see for myself. But I have the novels and manga as gifts from a friend some odd years ago, and both are on my Plan to Read.
I think I’ll start with the LN today since I’ve been looking for another LN to read 💃🏾
Its just ebbs and flows with yuri anime. We get so few for a couple years then in a year or two we get banger after banger.
Genuinely considered it one of my favourite yuri stories (which was shockingly much more yuri than I expected), I cannot fucking wait.

The tragic touch combined with war adds a very strong element to the story.
