JJK ep 4 was great but just not what I wanted
At least for the kill bill scene. i was expecting more choreography and being able to actually see whats going on like how madara first showed up. it was more so a lot of single slash "moments". still cool but i guess just a stylistic preference.
Maki also looked like Toji in most of that scene. literally. it looks like they drew a man with boobs. wide back, broad shoulders, big arms etc. but then when shes not fighting she looks like Maki again. A more traditionally womanly body, thinner waist, wider hips, less broad shoulders and arms. was this intentional? or am i just overthinking it?
dont get me wrong tho, the arthouse style of this season is sick af. the saucy way she slid up to that one guy and one inch punched him 😙🤌loved everything else too just would have preferred more fluid choreography rather than flash frames of dead guys

On the other hand, my very neurodivergent girlfriend really liked the episode for precisely the reasons I disliked it.
As far as Maki goes, I really had trouble seeing Maki in this version of Maki. Honestly wasn't recognizable.
This episode lacked the raw emotion.
Ogi was shook when he saw Toji in Maki and his sort of battle cry was one of desperation and almost to shout his fear away.
The way they portrayed Maki and Mai's last moments then the way Maki cried out so desperately for Mai was super emotional. She was "flat" after that because she was in a moment of hyper focus where nothing mattered except "destroying it all" and a sort of dissociation with her newfound power
idk man i haf a WAY diff interpretation
Kill Bill reference as a 'whole, several minutes long scene' was unnecessary and ended up as detracting from what was being conveyed. It dragged on too much. It lost its quality towards its end while doing that. Don't drag it on if you have to lose the quality. Finished almost like a caricature at its supposed climax. The song playing was again completely detached from what just happened the minute before. Moreover they decided to keep the song going into the next fight where it kept diluting its weight.
There is great effort poured in but it comes as more "look what we can do". It felt to me as if I was watching a piano player playing a piece as fast as they can while losing the essence of it.
All in all while I liked the episode, it had its ups and downs. Kill Bill was the downs part of it, when the music kicked in, colors shifted and art style gradually began to devolve into simplistic shapes. A shame since all that extra work does end up hindering what was mostly great work like the earlier parts against their father or the hei fight.
Also I would change it so the squad at the end wouldn't come at her one at a time, it was kinda silly in the episode and especially the aura farming. I wish it was more savage and desperate, like they were desperately trying to win but were just getting gored and decimated, I felt them coming one at a time to say and line and then die was super cheesy, even by anime standards. Loved the animation and music for what it was going for but I just disagree with the direction of the episode as a whole
