I just want a romance anime with a happy ending.
MASSIVE SPOILERS ABOUT: Planetes, School Rumble, GTO, Charlotte, Bakuman, Your Lie in April.
I recently finished watching Planetes, and it was devastating for me, so I wanted to use this post as therapy, and also ask for recommendations.
I really enjoy watching romantic anime from time to time, but I've hardly ever found one with an ending I like. I get the feeling that they all end up in one of these:
\- The relationship that has been hinted at throughout the series never quite comes to fruition: In School Rumble—one of my favorite anime series—I was rooting for Tenma and Kenji to end up together, but... oh well! The anime ended, and you'll never know, viewer. Something similar happened in GTO with Onizuka and the other teacher.
\- The couple ends up together, but literally one or both of them die (I'm looking at you, Your Lie in April).
\- Maybe they don't die, but something ruins the perfect ending: in Charlotte, Yuu loses his memory. In Planetes, Tanabe has to wait seven years for Hoshino to return from his mission to Jupiter.
I think Bakuman is an anime that does exactly what I want. I don't want overly saccharine stories where nothing bad ever happens. I really like it when characters have to overcome problems individually or as a couple. It's just that I hate it when the final outcome of everything is sad, bittersweet, or inconclusive.
Btw, I don't mean that I don't like the anime I've mentioned. Many of them are in my Tier S of all the fiction I've consumed

Both have some of the greatest romantic happy endings
Aharen-san is Indecipherable
Hi Score Girl
Horimiya
Josee, the Tiger and the Fish
Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions
Taisho Otome Fairy Tale
Tomo-chan is a Girl
Tsukigakirei
If "incomplete adaptation, but it reaches the point where they're together" is enough:
A Sign of Affection
A Star Brighter than the Sun
Honey Lemon Soda
Kaguya-sama: Love is War (also ongoing)
My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999
The Dangers in My Heart (also ongoing)
Worth nothing that while Kaguya did skip a lot of content, it did technically "finish" the main story in a sense and will be wrapping up with an anime original epilogue movie.
It is still a very self-contained story, so worth considering for OP.
Guy accidentally discovers the secret hobby of a shy rich girl in his class.
[Zero no Tsukaima](http://myanimelist.net/anime/1195/Zero_no_Tsukaima)
Modern day Tokyo boy is transported to a world filled with magic to be a familiar to a hard headed magician girl.
\- Kimagure Orange Road (love triangle, but there's a clear main couple that in the end ends up together)
\- Teasing Master Takagi-san (it is an extremely slow burn, but extremely enjoyable and the main couple definately ends up together)
\- Love, Chunibyo and other delusions (the main couple actually ends up dating in the middle of season 1, but the growth of their relationship continues much longer and it is very satisfying)
\- The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten (we are getting a second season this year, but the end of season 1 is the main couple getting together and it is super satisfying)
\- Toradora (there's a love polygon, but the main couple is quite clear from the start and they do end up together in a quite satisfying way)
\- Fruits Basket (for most of the show, we have a love triangle, and even a bit of a reverse harem... I shipped the wrong side of the triangle, but that's a bit on me, I think most people do ship the couple that actually ends up together)
\- Ai Yori Aoshi (it's a harem, but the main couple ends up together at the very start of the anime, they have to keep it secret, giving rise to the harem situation... but there's never a doubt about who the main couple is and they never seriously doubt each other... the ending of the anime is not very satisfying, but throughout the anime we do get some satisfying development of the main couple's relationship)
\- Love Hina (a harem, but there's a clear main couple, as far as I remember, they end up together in the end, but I have a fuzzier memory of this one)
Honorable Mention: Cardcaptor Sakura (not a pure romance, it's a magical girl with a very important romance subplot, the main romance is a very slow burn and it gets going a bit later, but it is one of the cutest love stories ever and when they end up together it's super cute... plus, in the sequel, Clear Card, we get to see them as a couple and it is very diabetic)
