It's super weird to me how MAL only has this tagged Supernatural, and zero of Action, Comedy, or Horror. Not sure exactly which ones I'd include, but it feels like there should be *something*.

Having read the manga, it not having horror is wild.

Having only watched the two episodes that are out, it's already pretty dubious.

It should probably have the same tags as the two series it's most similar to - Mieruko-chan and Dark Gathering, with the former having horror and comedy and the latter having horror and supernatural. Horror and comedy, definitely. Supernatural also makes sense, which it already has.
Action, I don't know - I'm not sure if Dark Gathering ever had it at any point on its page in the database and was removed or not, but it doesn't now and that series warrants it even more, with the fighting involved being longer, more violent/gruesome, and more complex, and it practically being a horror-themed battle shounen.
Granted that's so far and Kaya-chan is only two episodes in, but if Dark Gathering doesn't get Action then I doubt it will. Up to now it has struck me as either a cross between Mieruko-chan and Dark Gathering or just a tamer/more relaxed version of Dark Gathering (because of the kindergarten-aged main character and setting).
But keep in mind that MAL's genre tags' accuracy and usefulness have been going downhill a lot in the past few years compared to even five or more years ago. They started implementing a lot of very silly and restrictive rules around it which makes it so.

AniList has it as slice of life, comedy, horror. No supernatural haha.

Is it? It seems like a pretty standard comedy. The cute innocent little girls beats the ever loving shit out of ghosts. That’s the punchline. It is funny and cute with a dash of creepy, there are like four different shows very similar to it.
Zeralyos2026-01-23 22:12
Yeah, I'm still watching but it really just makes me wish for more Dark Gathering so far.

hoping S2 is of the same quality as S1
tripleaamin2026-01-24 00:52
Honestly, considering how well the manga has done, it should at least be the same quality as S1, if not greater. Though I doubt it will come out before Fall 2026 since the director is working on Kaya-chan.

Dropped it after one episode. It didn't really have any substance to me, it was just an aura farming toddler.

Nah, this one is creepy in different ways.

Seems interesting but that VCR/film glitch effect while the monsters were on the screen bothered me enough just in this video.
JadeWishFish2026-01-23 23:38
Glad I'm not alone in that. They use it EVERY time a monster was on screen and it's continually repeated until the monster is gone. I got a headache after the first episode from that constant glitch effect.
Prof_Acorn2026-01-24 14:15
It's why I stopped watching before the first episode was even finished.

I love anime about ghosts and Yokai, so I liked it immediately.
Hungry_Implement49802026-01-24 00:29
i love this anime, it feels like a refreshing horror.
also the plot is different from the usual horrors and the animations are smooth
Senior-Ad57642026-01-24 07:13
kinda giving spooky kitaro vibes
Prof_Acorn2026-01-24 14:10
The "old film camera" shaking effect is way too distracting. It doesn't even make sense for the medium.
