Anyone else not a fan of JJK season 3?
before we start I am not a JJK hater. I absolutely loved season 2 but there is just something about this season that I'm just not enjoying and I see most people loving it and I just dont see it. First, I think the animation just doesn't look good and the are really overdirecting these fights. Secondly I feel like the story is so lackluster and they way they are just like throwing things at you so quick and fast paced. It seems like they dont care about having an actual story right now, especially with so many people calling this most recent ep the greatest ep they ever have seen. I do hope my opinions change in these next upcoming eps because I was really excited for this season. This is just a mini rant post and I hope there's other people out there who are not liking this season also. maybe im just crazy

The story is just…well, the Culling Game is a divisive arc, I‘d say.
JJK has very frantic pacing and at times the writing feels erratic.
The anime can’t necessarily fix that, I don’t think.
I don't think erratic means bad. I do think JJK has an exceptionally strong story, I actually think all four episodes we got from this season were fantastic in terms of character writing.
Yuji, Yuta, Maki, Choso, Naoya are really rich characters that got a lot of focus already.
But I know many people don't like how fast-paced JJK is.
Also, JJK tends to reference or mention things without getting more explicit. A lot of the story is implied.
So...my answer to this
>stop expecting a good story to come and just enjoy the fights
would be:
No, you just have readjust what you consider a story and what it is that the anime wants to tell you, not what you want to hear from the anime.
As I said, I think JJK has incredibly writing, but I will admit this is one of the weaker arcs (though it has probably my second favourite fight, including absolutely stellar character work).
But I am not sure: What didn't you like about episode 4 in terms of the story?
I thought the story was great.
He knew Maki was coming and his goal was to kill his two daughters.
Also while the animation for the Maki episode was very good I just *really* did not care at all, I was only mildly invested in her character, not at all in Mai, and all but two of the foes in that episode were basically mooks, one of whom was at best just above a background character who only appeared in one scene prior like 2 episodes ago. I get the catharsis for her, but it after a point it just felt like mindless, meaningless violence.
Wouldn‘t say it was meaningless violence as the Zenin clan wouldn‘t have handed out the cursed tools and they even said that they would kill Maki and Fushigoro if they free Gojo. Also they tried to kill her and her sister just because they were „failures“. They had the choice to be killed or stay alive by killing everyone who wants to kill them. But yeah I understand the part with Maki and Mai. We didn‘t have a lot of interaction with them (as far as I remember).
I'm still interested in the story though.
I remember JJK 0 and the Hidden Inventory arc. The show is definitely using camera work to make up for the lack of fluid animation and they pretty much traced over an entire fight scene in a movie they knew people wouldn’t criticize them for…
Eh. I am still going to watch, it’s still satisfying but I’m actually not sure why the quality has dipped but I seem to be only few who think so
I think the visuals have been pretty decent this season so far. So on that point I don't really agree. But yeah the story is... not good.
I watch it and read it only for lobotomy.
JJK peaked in Shibuya, so it’s really just downhill from there.
So no clear power system just "this person does it because he/she is cool"
So no overarching story just "this happened, so this other person did this and that", it all seems random.
Etc. This episode is a clear example here, Maki is absolutely "spanked" by the heads of the family, but for some reason ("because yes") nothing that hits her damages her, but the moment she hits, it is destroying, one hit is enough to win. Same thing happened in the previous episode with the blood guy, spanked and then landed one hit that was enough to win. Everything in JJK happens to the same rule, which is, "because I the author says so", which is why no win has weight, which is why lots of people don't like it.
Also Maki got extremely buffed through heavenly restrictions as Mai took all the cursed energy with her and the constraints of heavenly restrictions were cancelled which made her Toji level.
Regarding Maki being buffed, it is the obvious explanation, anyone can conclude that after seeing the episode, but there is no weight to it. Like, Vampire Knight kind of does the same with "twins born power split, later in life they become one, so way more powerful now", but, the buff of one person is enough to overpower the entire clan and their best most talented people ? Doesn't feel right, power balancing wise, which is the point of the rant, the power system has no rules, only the rule of "cool", which we saw this episode, the animation, fight was pretty cool and that is all that there is to it.
I wish the studio adapting this remade naruto haha that would be peak
it's definitely one of those series that will be totally forgotten about 5-10 years from now.
I never related to the characters/comedy.
Without being able to relate, the "cool" scenes never felt cool.
It just feels like "Bleach" (I don't' care for Bleach either).
I think JJK is lame. I'm watching the sakuga. Animation is nice.
