I'm looking for isekai anime where the protagonist is female, but I want to avoid the typical "otome isekai" where the protagonist reincarnates as a game villain or is a doctor.
Hi Calm_Oven59, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

I've been killing slimes for 300 years and maxed out my level.
It's a slice of life series where the main character reincarnated to a different world after dying from overwork. She's given a young ageless body by a goddess after wishing to have a slow peaceful life.
Stalker_ptakow2026-01-24 00:40
Not sure if it counts but "Saga of Tanya the evil"
The main character used to be a man, but got reincarnated into a girl, and I swear that it's not portrayed weirdly. And I have a feeling that the main character doesn't care about their gender as long as they accomplish what they want to
Calm_Oven592026-01-24 01:56
Technically, yes. Very good, in fact.
Imanton12026-01-24 05:02
If we're including "used to be a man" anime, Fantasy Bishoujo, Reborn to Master the Blade, and Pupil of the Wise Man. Also Onimai if the transition story itself is the "other world".

Reincarnated as Sword (Fran is the best)
The Executioner and Her Way of Life

Weakest Tamer
Calm_Oven592026-01-24 02:03
I'd forgotten about this anime; I watched it when it was airing. I hope there's a second season.
dlshadow1102026-01-24 00:52
I also add *The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash* but the isekai aspect are not really bringed up much in the show
Ebirah2026-01-24 01:41
There is going to be another season(!), the isekai aspect may feature more then.
Though it did *sort of* matter in season 1, where Ivy was much more at home dealing with complex plots and intrigue (that should have baffled a small child from a remote village), than she was with basic adventuring (not that she did badly at that).
TheMightyAvocado2026-01-24 01:04
Bookworm is always my top recommendation, fantastic isekai and story overall
Making Magic - slice of life, light isekai
Invincible Little Lady - funny

Zenshu is pretty great.
SDFX-Inc2026-01-24 02:39
This one immediately came to mind. Plus, the whole artist drawing things into existence power and playful subversion of common fantasy anime tropes is pretty interesting.
Ebirah2026-01-24 01:51
*May I Ask For One Final Thing?* has a (non-isekai'd) female protagonist, and an isekai'd [May I Ask For One Final Thing] >!female villain!<.

7th Time Loop is the best I've seen. It takes top scores in both Villainess and [actual] Isekai categories IMO.
I wouldn't usually classify most of the Villainess genre as Isekai since they're usually just the "I know this VN" setup as their whole schtick. Which is hardly reincarnating into a new world if it's just one you literally know inside and out...
Gullible_Bat_54082026-01-24 10:03
Twelve kingdoms
The Vision of Escaflowne
Maqya2026-01-24 10:19
In the Land of Leadale is a personal top pick!

It's been mentioned a lot, but yeah, Ascendance of a Bookworm. It's an amazing show.
