I realized something about my anime preferences
And I'm curious if anyone else has felt something similar. A lot of times I choose what to watch based on what I am in the mood for at that time. Whether thats a slice of life, or a brain dead power fantasy, or a mystery, etc. And I've noticed that a lot of times I find myself somewhere between disappointed and blindsided somewhere around ep4-8, where a lot of times the tone of the show will shift.
Either a romance plot appears, a main villain shows up in a show that didn't have much conflict, a love triangle starts all of a sudden, or some other thing to raise the stakes somehow.
I'm not saying it happens every time, but I've noticed that a lot of times I watch a show for one reason, and these developments make me want to stop the shows. A cute low stakes romance all of a sudden introduces a rival or a breakup, or a comedy show suddenly turns to a serious high stakes conflict.
I'm sure part of it has to do with me not doing enough research about the shows aside from confirming their genres for risk of spoilers, but I still find myself with some unfinished, or reluctantly finished shows for this reason. I'd be fine with straight up repetition with variation.
Tl:dr I don't like tone shifts in shows where I go in expecting one thing and it goes in another direction just to raise the stakes.

Lucky in my experience I think, the impression first episodes have given me majority of the time promised right. And I like developments, hence why I keep watching the shows I like the first episode of.
