Medalist is my final series to begin before march (when we get Jojo), and I anticipate it will end up quite high in the seasonal rankings if it matches the quality of the first season.
actually, this might mean that the chance of this including being a planned 2 cour/season 2 they have to work on now increases significantly; if this alread yhad a tv slot as well, this is probably not too far in the future because of the delay of S1.
~~Well, or the director just has to focus on akane banashi at some point as well~~

Everything was just nice and comfy. Sharo/Syaro, Midori were my favorite characters with honorable mentions to Rize's Dad and Takahiro. It's not my favorite CGDCT but its up there.

I hit the random number generator again and hit [Yariryuu](https://myanimelist.net/anime/55150/Yarinaoshi_Reijou_wa_Ryuutei_Heika_wo_Kouryakuchuu). Guess I'm watching that next.
for characters that didn't get nominated as Lead Character of the Year
[](#disagree "Can still vote her in the annual Best Girl contest!")
To think there’s a seasonal that will only start airing as late as week 4.
Cour 2 of Re:Zero S3 also starts at Week 5. Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc even started airing at Week 6.
[](#delighted)
(So she loses with 30.1% of the votes instead of 30%).

It's kinda similar to a romance where we know they're going to get together in the end.
But if it's because of the T H I R S T, then... well, yea, that's pretty much consistent. You can either look past it or indeed drop it.
I hated the characters and their lack of anything interesting about them, lack of world building, hated the cringe relationship melodrama.
I agree tho, that this is a bit too late into the story to start worrying about that. A *little* bit more background on what even a Franxx is would've been nice, because all you can see is a boy grabbing a girl by the butt via some handles integrated with the suit.
It often gets compared to *Neon genesis evangelion*, which is... not *entirely* fair. *DitF* is very much its own story, tho it does borrow heavily in trying to emulate the mystery, which it doesn't quite manage.
You need to up your drop game!
[](#urbansmile)
(I didn't drop this one though, which means I think there's at least 427 anime that are worse than Darling in the Franxx!)
But yeah, - to me - it was heavily carried by Zero Two. Everything that wasn't about her, was meh.
I mostly observe/participate in anime discussion on r/anime or the English-speaking side of twitter, despite being born and raised in Vietnamese. There's a sizable community of Vietnamese who are into anime, and some us blend in the global, English speaking discussion spaces, but I am sure there are Vietnamese-exclusive places. But I just realized I don't know too much about them.
It's my impression that Chinese or Korean for example definitely have their own side of the internet. Probably the Spanish-speaking anime fans have a similar exclusive space to themselves too.
First I stopped talking with a bunch of my former friends as we were in fansubbing community and found out that part of our friend group anonimusly made mocking reviews on other members translations.
When war in Ukraine started and it turned out majority of Russian community members fell for local propaganda. And most of the resources we kept contact on either closed or I stopped visiting them for the same reason.
My only community contacts at the moment is a backers chat of one anime podcast as it's members keep themselves out of political topics for now, and a mobile gaming channel in Telegram where a bunch of my still adequate friends from fansub days are still hanging out (but it is not to active nowadays).
So TL;DR, former CIS anime community fell apart a lot in recent years.
I wouldn't even know where to find them. But even if I did know, I wouldn't be interested. I don't think discussion would be very different either since we use the same English websites that English people use. Barely any anime airs on TV here too (a lot more when I was a kid but sadly they're all gone except for some Pokémon during the weekend I guess).
Im already struggling enough getting my anime discussion fix in english, dont need to make it any harder for myself lol.
It doesn't help that most spaces are absolutely dominated by battle shounen discourse. And whenever I meet someone IRL with "higher power level", they often already are active in an english speaking site where they can find more like-minded people.

I’ll do some squats with my shirt off. That should keep her away
Maybe the true witch has a watch. The witch with which our journal's with is the witch with a watch which watches a witch's journal.
Just be sure you watch the anime "with Witch" and not "Witch Watch". Because the Witch which we wish to watch is the witch of "with Witch" not "Witch Watch", who's witch we wish to watch is the witch with a watch which watches a witch's journal.
Im not smart enough to continue this further and I spent too long on this dumb joke and semantic satiation is kicking in and everything sounds like swish swosh now
However 2202 fumbles the ball so hard its insane, if you ever want to experience what "bad writing" means, look no further. They manage to give you the feeling you accidentally skipped an episode when you go from one to the next epnwhile likewise the eps themself feel like filler. I was warned but not prepared for such an epic fall from grace.
The remake is fun, but it cut out literally every single scene that made the anime special to me. I didn't bother watching 2202 but evidently it doesn't sound like it's worth seeing.
It reminds me a lot of Battlestar Galactica in many ways, beeing a remake but also changing things up and improving upon them.
It's REALLY rough in the sense that 1974 is ancient history for anime, but I think a lot of the story beats are a lot more emotional.
I definitely will watch it at some point because it predates classics like Gundam and even Star Trek which is wild.
There were people introducing themselves, and elaborating on what kanji characters their name used. "I'm Suzaku. That's written like 'tree' and 'flower'." There are several passes on this with nondescript names and innocuous kanji. Then someone has a cool one: "I'm Kenichi. That's spelled like 'fire' 'dragon' 'volcano'."
I don't have any of the names or kanji correct. The characters take note of the super-cool name at the time, but it's not a plot point or remarked on again as far as I remember. I don't think it was the MC. Could've been supporting, but I want to say it was a teriary character. I think this was just a blip of comedy in a mostly action anime. Wanna say it was high school kids in a classroom, and that cool-name was a guy.
I think I saw it this past summer (2025). And most of my watched list is 2015+.
They animated the horse. In 2D.
If that doesn’t make something AOTY, then I don’t know what does.

...nevermind you're onto something
I'd give it an 8/10. I haven't watched the creator's other YouTube videos (not my thing), but this was a very good first impression so if it ever gets a continuation, I'd be interested in checking it out.
Also, beautiful English ending theme. [](#listen)
[](#hardthink)
I say "expected" because it's what very commonly happens with when it's not "I have a short story to tell" but "I have a story to tell, and I'll try to fit it into a short story because that's all I can afford to make".
That said, it's a beautiful little film, you can definitely feel Garnt's passion, and the music is amazing.
They both have new seasons that just started airing incase you didn't know.
[](#miyamoriunimpressed)
I'm now recalling why I dropped this, the entire plot cooked up by the main guy is baffling and I don't care if he succeeds or fails.
Edit: I'll give it some credit for [episode 3] >!not drawing out the misunderstanding about Shiro and then flipping it to have him confess to Kuro. On the other hand, I now imagine we'll we have to suffer the status quo of no one dating for who knows how long because none of them are going to admit they were wrong and talk things through.!<
Edit 2: For a number of romcom LNs the author has an idea that's good for one volume which is often three episodes. This one is another example, and the novel ran for 13 volumes.
Can you name some examples? Specific titles, if you can.
Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (though, MC is a bit of a dumbass)
Kaichou wa Maid-sama MC poses as a prince type but is more of a bad boy
Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji
Diabolic Lovers (but this one is really shitty)
And then it clicked, because volumes 8 and 9 is essentially a single arc, covering [Medalist] >!The All Japans!<, and turning that into a movie honestly sounds like an amazing idea.
[](#dekuhype)
We've only had a single episode of the new season and I am already incredibly hyped for the sequel movie next year. I really hope ENGI is given an appropriate movie budget for it.
That show has 3 OPs that have absolutely no right being as good as they are. Why did they cook so goddamn hard for a romance as stiff and frankly maddening at times as KOR?
[](#yuishrug)
Some prior favorites are Berserk, Hellsing, Fate Zero, and FMA Brotherhood
They probably won’t do it :( . The [PV](https://youtu.be/pVjwvAcP-8M?si=j2sbjslj900JoQvV) makes it look like they’re going for an Ikoku Nikki-style josei direction. I think it really comes down to whether a project gets a director who genuinely cares about the material, or cares *a little* too much, like Keiichi Saitou. The ballroom dancing scene in Frieren Season 1 and the \[Season 2\] >!puppet show!< in Season 2 prove that some creators are willing to go beyond what’s strictly required.
To me, there’s always real weight behind those "unnecessary" scenes, like the dancing scene in Pulp Fiction. They add personality and atmosphere, and make the world feel more believable.
Edit: Ignore my doompost. Turns out Awajima Hyakkei’s director was the [episode director for Frieren Episode 15](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=909), the ballroom dance episode. There’s hope after all, lol.
Referencing Frieren again, performance scenes also tend to feel better suited for more light-hearted(?) (less drama) anime. Regardless, I can see why they might feel shoehorned in. I’d still love to see them added, though, even if it feels like fanservice for people like me.
Maybe I should just let medalist go
