Why does nothing I watch these days feel fun anymore?
Whenever an anime comes out on Netflix, I tell myself I’ll wait until it’s finished.
But even after it’s completed, I still don’t end up watching it.
And when I finally start episode 1, I lose interest almost immediately and just turn it off.

Of course to get to that point you need to try out a lot of anime you don't enjoy that much.
That's not an inherently bad thing necessarily, it's good to keep yourself occupied. Put simply, if you're not enjoying it then you're not enjoying it. If you really want to watch something, or if the story is genuinely captivating, I'm sure you'd stick with it. Sometimes things just don't gel with me so I stop watching after an episode (or I add them to a watch list and never watch them)
You never have to watch anything. You never have to finish anything. You should jump into shows you enjoy, or think you'll enjoy, and stop watching when you're no longer interested. Whether that's 5 minutes in or 8 seasons deep, it doesn't matter.
I hope you find something that resonates with you soon
Trust me I'm 40 now. I still like anime and actually rewatch some of them from time to time but I get bored of it and just watch something else.
Absolutely nothing wrong with you but if you think about it...what's more important? Money or anime? Family and friends or anime? Ur job and life or anime?
Unless you are getting paid to watch anime or work for anime...I think it's more of a side hobby than an actually thing you would care so much to give up something important IRL.
The other side to this is shows are written and directed differently nowadays. You used to get big episode 1 hooks, then the 3 episode rule became a thing, but I’ve noticed a lot of shows now are averaging 4 episodes to set up the big hook and the actual main premise doesn’t start until episode 6. Kaiju no8 is a good example of it. So depending on the genre you are looking at you might also just need more time to get hooked.
If you don't have a MAL or Anilist account, make one and use the statistics to take a cold objective look at what you actually enjoy. Accept that you will drop shows after 2 episodes or less. And above all do not feel obligated to watch whatever is popular, and go outside from time to time.
It's not wrong to drop an anime that doesn't work for you, though. You only need to try it enough to be able to make an educated decision.
If there are other hobbies that are more fun to you than watching anime, you might also just not watch anime. Nobody says anime has to be one of your hobbies. Just because it used to be a hobby doesn't mean it has to stay a hobby forever. However, if there's no hobby at all that you enjoy anymore, then there's probably some mental block you need to resolve (or get help with).
It's also possible you've ruined your attention span with social media (not judging, a lot of us have).
Come back when your interest has had some time to renew or when a new anime really takes your interest.
I will say sometimes it actually helps to watch things weekly as they come out rather than waiting to binge. Binging can be fun sometimes but it's a faster track to burnout.
You’re probably just burned out on anime. That happens.
Spend time on other hobbies and don’t force it. Don’t look back.
When you reaaaaally, rreeeeeeeeally feel like you want to watch something again, then do it.
Until then, see you on the other side.
b)
Once you’ve seen a good amount of classics, your standards naturally shift, and newer shows have a harder time standing out.

Anime can feel less diverse once you’ve watched a lot of it. Both anime and manga rely heavily on familiar tropes, and many don’t really try to bring something new to the table. That said, manga still covers a much wider range of subjects and genres than anime overall, so switching to manga, eroge, or Japanese novels for a while might help. Or it might not.
I’m not criticizing the medium as an outsider or a hater. I’ve seen my share of anime and still feel this way sometimes. There are periods when I’m more into games or other hobbies, RL things and other times anime pulls me back in hard. Looking back, I think stepping away for a bit, trying other hobbies, or even creating fanfics actually adds to my overall enjoyment.
I am terrible at picking stuff I like.
a lot of movies, games, shows etc I think I would like just does nothing for me, but I consistently find cool stuff I would have never even thought about trying by recommendations or simply trying stuff that seems to receive some genuine hype ( like actual people enjoying it and talking about it after/while enjoying it).
Sometimes its a good idea to go into something you think you might not like to figure out why people are talking about it.
1. **That anime isn’t actually worth my time:** As I get older I get fussier. Most anime *are* technically meant to appeal to teenage audiences and I can feel the way I don’t enjoy some things I used to. Plus there is that rule where even without that, few from the many are good in any medium. But thankfully I’m very conscious of it. If what I’m watching doesn’t give the impression that I’ll care about the same show a year afterward, I ditch it straight away.
2. **I need a break from anime:** Jumping between mediums keeps things fresh and fun. Next to anime and manga, I love watching Korean/Thai/Chinese dramas and reading fantasy books. When I feel I’m getting bored of one, I shift over to another, then back again.
3. **Preoccupied:** With work or the like
4. **I just need peace and quiet lol:** I don’t need to he consuming a piece of media all the time. Sometimes it’s nice to just chill and relax with the thoughts in my head.
So my advice is to not force it and only watch something you have a real interest in. Nothing to be ashamed off.
You just sound burned out to me. It happens to all of us at one point or another. Just find something else you'll enjoy instead of anime and if you wait long enough, I'm sure you'll get over your burnout. Anime will always be here when you feel like watching it again too.
