If you’re here strictly for romance, go with *More Than a Married Couple*, *The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity*, *Buta Yarou*, and my personal top pick: *The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten*.
For movies, I’d recommend *I Want to Eat Your Pancreas* and *A Silent Voice*. And yeah, *Your Name* is popular, but it didn’t hit for me. 🤷♂️
I've watched Mushoku and I listened to the audiobooks for a lot of the light novels. I stopped around volume 22 I think.
It's an interesting story, but it dips very heavily into the pervert side of things. I appreciate that it's a redemption story for the main character and him coming to terms with that side of him, and trying to be better but it fully embraces it. There were a lot of parts of this story that left me very uncomfortable.
It's an interesting story but one that is definitely not for everybody.
I stopped in the light novels when I did because he had just stagnated and the character growth seemed to have started to regress.
I also didn’t really see his growth as regressing so much as slowing down and shifting into more internal stuff, but I totally get why it can feel like a plateau depending on where you stopped.
beautiful anime, wholesome, funny, ticks all the boxes for me 🥰
Do you prefer light-hearted and fun, or do you prefer dark and serious? Maybe a preference somewhere in the middle?
Are you good with fan-service or prefer to avoid it? ie. gigantic boobs for no reason, gratuitous panty shots, unnecessary sexualization of female characters just for laughs. This is a pretty common trope in anime that can really turn people off so if you'd prefer to avoid it, knowing that will help steer recommendations.
Are you ok with main characters that yell a lot and are generally rather loud and obnoxious? This is another common trope, though it seems to be phasing out with more recent anime that I've been watching. Characters yelling and screaming all the time kinda drives me nuts so I tend to avoid these.
Do you have a preference for time setting? Modern, Futuristic, Cyber Punk, Post-Apocalyptic, Fantasy?
Anime can get pretty weird. I've seen some that kinda left me wanting to bleach my eyeballs afterward. lol
