There's no universe where it's going to do even a remotely likable job.
AI subtitles maybe we can get the audio detection good enough that it seems good as long as like keywords are provided and such for each show that maybe also can be found with AI.
Forestl2026-01-24 15:02
AI subtitles are still way worse than a competent person doing it
Ok_Mushroom25632026-01-24 15:03
That's true yes
GhostInABucketJar2026-01-24 15:05
While true corpos don't care and with their being basically no competition in the Anime space its only going to get worse. We're just numbers and the vast majority of those either don't care or will just suck it up.
Forestl2026-01-24 15:08
There are plenty of shitty things corporations have tried to do with anime that got enough pushback they stopped. Moment we give into the lower quality being a given is the moment it gets really bad.
GhostInABucketJar2026-01-24 15:10
While true Amazon alr released an AI Dub, it may have been pushed back then, its no longer a "what if" its more a "when" scenario of these being made.
Forestl2026-01-24 15:12
No it's still a "what if" scenario. The AI dub sucked ass and they've shown no evidence it'll ever get good enough to not be extremely shitty and distracting
Don't accept that AI will somehow magically get good with no proof
GhostInABucketJar2026-01-24 15:21
Whether that may be true or not, corporations are all the same, extract every penny you can even if it degrades the service or product at the cost to the consumer. Doesn't truly matter if the AI Dub gets better or not, the will force it on us regardless, otherwise Amazon wouldn't still be pulling this BS after they got all that backlash from the Banana Fish AI Dub. If anything Banana Fish was a test run to test the waters.
dende54162026-01-24 15:16
If its just a furst draft to speed a human second I could see it.
Forestl2026-01-24 15:18
Heard a lot of stories about it doing the opposite since it makes a bunch of assumptions and errors that the human has to spend time fixing.
dende54162026-01-24 15:22
I said could not is. A hypothetical future we aren't at and might not ever get too.
Kuramhan2026-01-24 15:18
I doubt they care enough to do this, but AI subtitles could be more or less adequate if they have a person proofreading them. Still much faster than manually translating, but the most egregious stuff can be fixed.
ZeroProximity2026-01-24 15:28
The problem is that they will never have someone go over them. Even in the fan sub community I'm pretty sure some are using llms. Phases and words that have been accurately understood and translated the same way for years are suddenly getting different translations.
For example i have been seeing "Probably - Tabun" translated strangely making jokes land weird. It happened in the last season of apothecary diaries off the top of my head
Fluffy-Tie27922026-01-24 15:55
> For example i have been seeing "Probably - Tabun" translated strangely making jokes land weird. It happened in the last season of apothecary diaries off the top of my head
Which fansub group did this?
ZeroProximity2026-01-24 16:10
No idea. It was in response to someone asking if other characters would bite them....i think. And our mc responded tabun. And it was translated as No.
It could have been official idk, i watch anime through a terminal
wloff2026-01-24 15:30
Would it even be faster, though? Or cheaper? You're paying the same amount of people either way, and it's not like translators are rolling in cash.
Kuramhan2026-01-24 15:38
You're basically skipping the entire translation step and are going straight to proofing. That's definitely faster. You could definitely cut down on translators. Idk how much they could really saved doing that, but corporate logic. This change makes more sense in other industries when they're replacing people who make six figure salaries.
Charming_Figure_90532026-01-24 16:01
This.....could work, AI does the rough draft, humans edit, it could be quicker and cheaper and the quality will only be slightly less....it's not great, but it's doable and not a disaster - maybe
Ekyou2026-01-24 17:24
It’s not, because they hand the translator a gibberish AI translation and then make them essentially retranslate the whole thing to proofread it. Then then can get away with paying them even less than 5c a word (and hire cheaper, shittier translators) because they can call it “proofreading”.
Here’s the dirty secret - translators, even really good ones, already use machine translation tools for efficiently and proofreading. Any efficiency gained from AI translation is already in their workflow. Just pay competent translators who know how to do their jobs best.
DirkDasterLurkMaster2026-01-24 16:12
Every professional translator has been saying for years that post-editing AI translations is every bit as much effort at a fraction of the pay
mati2002992026-01-24 16:33
If not more since you're adding proofreading the AI translation to having to translate everything yourself anyway
Herbertand32026-01-24 15:20
They don't really hire competent people to do translations and subtitles now. Like, Viz desperately needs and editor who understands the basics of the English language, but refuses to hire one.
NekoCatSidhe2026-01-24 15:42
I can confirm, having watched the infamous first episode of Necromico and the Cosmic Horror Show before Crunchyroll removed the AI subtitles. It was a big scandal six months ago.
The AI completely missed context when translating common words, for example translating « uso » as « liar » instead of « it can’t be true » when a character said it as a reaction to the path to the exit closing.
CatuIIus2026-01-24 15:05
Sorry for breaking it to you, but they already released a fully AI dubbed Anime. Banana Fish
Smoothesuede2026-01-24 15:11
Yeah and it didn't do an even remotely likable job.
LaconicKibitz2026-01-24 15:06
Both are awful because big corporations don't understand how things actually work. AI is a tool and no matter how much you dress it up, a hammer can't replace the carpenter.
Amazon wants to completely remove humans from its localization pipeline to reduce costs. But the reality is that if you want quality, you need people to manage and direct the process.
Dag-nabbitt2026-01-24 16:06
But what if it's an autonomous bluetooth wifi smart hammer that costs eleventy billion dollars and gets the nail in at the correct angle almost 90% of the time. Sure it occasionally hammers a screw, and one time it hammered the wood plank into the box of nails, but think of the savings!
Fastenbauer2026-01-24 15:08
If you think AI dubs make no sense you clearly haven't seen the abomination that is Youtube auto dubbing. I'm not saying that it's a good idea, in fact I'm saying that it's a terrible idea. But it's cheaper than paying people, so no doubt the corporations will at least try.
_Fun_Employed_2026-01-24 15:15
They unfortunately are doing AI dubs, and they are legendarily bad. Mother’s Basement had some examples in his “worst thing to happen in anime 2025” video, which was titled such to not just focus on bad anime but bad things like the use of ai in anime dubs and subs and the general enshitification of the anime industry and streaming services (spoilers for the video I guess). The ai subs are bad too.
Lunarpeers2026-01-24 15:56
I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but some AI voices are pretty good. Obviously it can't replace proper VA's, but a few years later it might start happening
Albireookami2026-01-24 15:56
No ai subtitles will suck ass for things of the fantasy and science fiction genre because a lot of those have custom words or made up names for things.
thedoc902026-01-24 16:17
As someone learning japanese right now it feels like at least half of the entire language is made up of homophones. The fact that things like google translate work as well as they do feels like a miracle. I can't imagine AI translations working very well at all.
kirsion2026-01-24 16:31
I can see AI dub or sub useful , say built into some software like VLC or pot player so if you're watching some old video without any subtitles or English translations that would be useful. But not for a first party video that should already have subtitles or a dub
travelingWords2026-01-24 16:37
I don’t know. Have you listened to normal dubs? It’s got a chance.
StickiStickman2026-01-24 16:38
AI dubbing makes a ton of sense.
You could have the same voice and performance across every language. That sounds awesome if we get there.
Snazzy_Serval2026-01-24 18:21
AI dubs is simply text to speech from a script and then trying to match the words to the existing mouth movements. In the near future it will be possible to edit the existing source material to perfectly lipsync the dialog and make the existing Japanese voice speak English or whatever language you want.
This-is_CMGRI2026-01-24 14:58
just like how Microslop decided to load even more Copilot to Windows even as people were already shunning it, huh?
biggie_way_smaller2026-01-24 15:20

The AI bubble in a nutshell
FSCK_Fascists2026-01-24 17:43
any bubble in a nutshell. It keeps happening, and people keep raking in dumb investment money.
Gombrongler2026-01-24 18:09
Dont know why youre getting dowvoted, before this it was Zoom, a glorified Skype. Wall street just needs a place to park its money and lure others until they can cash out
Certain_Concept2026-01-24 20:59
Nah. That's a completely different situation.
Zoom exploded during COVID because it was an easy (and free) way to host group calls without any setup like accounts etc. It was popular because it filled the niche that opened as everyone needed to work out how to work and socialize from home.
I think a more appropriate example would be blockchain which had massive hype, but has largely turned out to just a slow, expensive (wasteful) database. It was another answer looking to solve an existing problem and it mostly failed to be better than the alternatives.
Gombrongler2026-01-24 21:42
Google and Microsoft had their own Alternatives, it wasnt a "niche", Free video conference calls arent worth Billions either way you spin it
Fakeom2026-01-24 16:05
It’s definitely not gonna follow the same path as the metaverse
FuckIPLaw2026-01-24 18:51
It's worse than the metaverse. The Metaverse could have had a niche as being, basically, the next evolution of exactly what Facebook used to be good for: keeping in touch with friends and family who live too far away to see on a regular basis. Go catch a movie and then go bowling or to play darts or pool or mini golf or race go karts or what have you, with people you already know and love and don't get to hang out with in person anymore.
But Zuckerberg didn't want that. He doesn't even want Facebook itself to be that anymore. There's a reason facebook feeds are mostly made up of AI slop from pages you're not even subscribed to now.
Otiosei2026-01-24 19:32
Zuckerberg desperately wanted to be king of the internet, and instead all he did was blow 100 billion dollars on a worse version of vr chat.
DeanxDog2026-01-24 20:23
And Instagram is slowly following the same path. More and more sponsored shit or "suggestions" in my main feed. It's at the point where I see more ads and suggested reels in my feed than accounts I follow. And the drop-down at the top of the screen to switch to only see accounts you follow is hidden from users, you don't realize it's there unless you tap on it.
Plus I don't think Instagram has added an original feature since it was acquired by Facebook. Every single new addition has just been ripped off from other successful social media apps. Stories, reels, the map, etc.
Prankishmanx212026-01-24 19:06
Sunk cost fallacy. Sometimes you have to cut your losses, even of its billions.
ss1d_2026-01-24 15:27
Remember a few weeks back when the microslop ceo told everyone to stop calling ai content “slop”? Thats hilarious
Audrey_spino2026-01-24 15:56
Sunk cost fallacy. They've spent too much on it to backtrack now. If they step back even a millimeter, their stocks would tank because they've promised an AI revolution to their shareholders.
Haru1st2026-01-24 17:42
And that’s the way the fiduciary responsibility crumbles
Spiritual_Lie25632026-01-24 18:22
Not just the sunk cost fallacy, but also regular cost as well: No matter how much the AI bubble bursts, any amount of money spent on AI is far less than the amount that they would spend on payroll to human workers, so they'll NEVER stop tilting at this windmill simply because the money is better not to.
Shasla2026-01-24 20:18
Tech billionaires and companies are basically playing a prisoners dilemma game and currently somehow winning. But it's not sustainable and when someone eventually folds I think there will be a domino effect.
Vystril2026-01-24 16:21
Thats why they need to take away other options and force people to use it. Logging into MS online and *only* seeing copilot and having to click around a bunch to get to things that just to be easily a quick away is pretty infuriating.
StruggleOver15302026-01-24 18:09
I think people often most of amazon's profits, and true of other big tech companies, dosen't come from your everyday consumer, but from buissiness consumers. When they talk about people supporting ai, they very much are talking to smaller companies not about the people paying amazon to watch anime.
biggie_way_smaller2026-01-24 18:31
and if the product sucks and the cost to maintain the AI is expensive, why would they listen? it is simply unsustainable with current technology
Allansfirebird2026-01-24 15:32
I recently had to get a laptop upgrade at work, and I didn’t realize manufacturers were forcing a Copilot button onto the keyboards now instead of one of the Control keys.
Good thing folks have already figured out how to reconfigure that button back to a control key, at least.
thedoc902026-01-24 16:03
Its a microsoft mandate. You'll start to see it on all new keyboards soon. Essentially if a company licenses the windows key then they have to include a copilot key. I dont even use windows, but I'll still have to look at that dumbshit key when my kayboard dies probably, its also mapped to something asanine like f24 so I'll have to remap it too. The stupid is spilling over.
FSCK_Fascists2026-01-24 17:46
I bought a new keyboard. it says "Win" instead of the windows logo. There is no Slopilot key.

That's fucking ridiculous. It was bad enough accidentally opening Copilot with a mouse press that I had to use regedit to get rid of it, why do they think anyone would want to accidentally hit that shit while they're typing?

El_grandepadre2026-01-24 18:47
The next step is purposely furthering the enshittification and inventing "AI solutions" to a self-created problem, and sell that.
AI has been nothing but a black hole of money, and revenue isn't coming in. Currently it's still a "battle" for the market where lots of companies are popping up, and once that has been decided in full the winners will start making everyone's lives more expensive.
LaconicKibitz2026-01-24 14:59

Charming_Figure_90532026-01-24 15:58
Indeed, these 'AI''s are not what the shysters sold them on, and won't be - ever
....but billions, trillions, is tied up in all this, and when it starts to unravel it's going to be a bloodbath companies will have to 'adjust forecasts' based on the savings AI was promising - values drop confidence drops, the industry takes a hit, the whole 'AI' market takes a MASSIVE reality check and who knows....but it's gonna be interesting
FSCK_Fascists2026-01-24 17:49
it is frustrating. LLM will revolutionize large data sets. It is a far easier and more powerful interface that any existing model.

It already hit its limitations years ago. The main issue is that LLM is what causes the hallucinations. They're impossible to get rid of just due how to LLMs work. and because of that, they'll never be super useful

3-bakedcabbage2026-01-24 23:45
The government can’t afford bailouts for the amount of money that’s about to be lost. Some companies will get bailouts but I’m thinking a large amount of companies are probably gonna close down after the bubble burst. We’ve never seen an economy depend on a bubble so much like this in history.
phantomknight3212026-01-24 21:20
That’s what I think of EVERY TIME some random bullshit thing gets AI added to it.
Our security cameras now use AI to guess what people are doing in the clips it records. It is mostly wrong.
Nettysocks2026-01-24 15:11
This seems like it’s for dubbing any kind of content, though while it isn’t specially an anime Ai dubbing job position their looking for, you would imagine it could spill into it.
I would imagine the focus would be on other things that are easier to ‘AI dub’ without it being off putting, like foreign documentaries, which is prob about the only thing I could personally think of remotely working ‘good enough’ for a viewer.
All content is doomed it seems either way I’m sure, unless it becomes widely slated enough, wether that would hit the mass it needs I will be doubtful given how many people I know watch so much AI content on YouTube these days.
Noirsam2026-01-24 15:11

MadeInDex-org2026-01-24 15:14
AI misses too much context for Subs, how can it make proper Dubs?!
KtheMage362026-01-24 16:34
Some times I wonder if it's just AI missing context. I was watching a dub of "The Vampire Dies in No Time" and the voices have great character and cadence but in one scene instead of saying "Don't be such a tight ass" a character says "Don't be narrow anus'ed"
It makes me wonder if at times the scripts are just tossed into google translated and read exactly as google says and no one bothers to fine tune it in the recording.
BusBoatBuey2026-01-24 16:41
AI translations focus on making sentences that make sense, not transferring over the original meaning. In fact, they are even censored/lobotomized to intentionally ignore meaning as the model trainer dictates.
People see grammatical mistakes and such and will immediately notice it. They likely won't notice translation issues unless they have some level of understanding in the source language. AI dubbing remove this aspect entirely, so it works for the low-standard consumers.
FSCK_Fascists2026-01-24 17:51
I am hard of hearing. Watching a dubbed anime with subs turned on is an experience, to be sure. Often teo entirely different concepts being presented. I imagine if I was fluent in Japanese, I would be seeing 3 different concepts.
Kougeru-Sama2026-01-24 20:03
> no one bothers to fine tune it in the recording.
well yeah... voice actors are paid to say what the script says. they're not allowed to change anything.
YellowAppleCinema2026-01-24 16:56
Im not sure if i hate this, considering Cinderella Gray had the translators translating "Merry Christmas" to "Happy Holidays", an AI wouldnt have done that, but i guess thats subs not dubs

funny how companies like netflix, CR and other streaming sites turned to sht that it inevitably revived CD and physical media culture back to life. I see the CD alley in my city opening again and theyre not desserted at all in this day and age when they basically died off during 2010-2020. If buying and payings isnt owning then pirating isnt stealing.
Ekyou2026-01-24 17:18
Kinda hard for Crunchyroll’s shittiness to revive physical anime though when they own distribution rights for 95% of the shows that come out every season (and then do nothing with them to boot). I guess if you’re ok with never watching anything newer than 2019. Although Anime Limited in the UK seems to be making bank from Americans importing from them now.

You cant force people to want your product at this level.
Shimaru332026-01-24 15:56
I'll be the bad guy here.
Most people don't give a shit about the quality of dubs. On the one hand, the snobs will keep with their "subtitles or nothing" mentality, and at the other hand, a (large) portion of people don't care about the proper work of dubbing and only want something to listen while they are doing whatever else. They don't need a skilled actor adding inflections and changing their tone to match the character, they only want a voice over explaining over and over what are the general points of the plot so they have the feeling of watching something.
Read about [double screen](https://theconversation.com/too-distracted-to-watch-netflix-has-the-perfect-second-screen-show-for-you-249012) and recently Matt Damon also pointed something similar, [Netflix wanting for the plot to be explained in the dialogue multiple times](https://variety.com/2026/film/news/matt-damon-netflix-movies-restate-plot-viewers-on-phones-1236633939/). Now, want further evidence?
Trust me, you don't need to know spanish to understand how horrible are these dubs. [Something, something rich CEO falls in love with bland girl something whatever](https://youtu.be/xlfrhUBs1qQ?si=3M5BonlXKMKbYkKn), [something cheap boticary diaries knock off](https://youtu.be/G_LsNvvu7jk?si=sEiQZ4WMgGdTK1W4) and [rich ceo falls in love with bland girl](https://youtu.be/gCgHiqHe2jg?si=W0hKGMDA6cfhPbY3). The one with the worst viewership has over 100,000 views, while the one about the rich ceo falling in love has over 4 millions. And I know about these ones because some of my relatives spend hours "watching" these while cooking or cleaning the house. Clearly, amazon knows there's a market for this shit and they want to capitalize in that.
But, despite my pessimism, I do think is worth to fight against this shit. I'm one of those who protested back when high school of the dead was dubbed and while retwitting and click on the like button probably didn't amount to much, cancelling my subscription to amazon probably had a better impact.

> Most people don't give a shit about the quality of dubs
There have already been AI dubs from Amazon that this article is talking about. Youtube also has an auto-dubbing feature now. Everybody hates these
Gippy_2026-01-24 15:57
Playing devil's advocate.
For perhaps the top 20 languages in the world, it is financially feasible to hire the staff necessary to produce the dub. Beyond that? It's just throwing money away. Who will pay for an Esperanto dub? [Or Czech?](https://myanimelist.net/stacks/21563)
In the visual novel scene, machine translations are popping up all over the place. There are thousands of VNs that will never have a licensed translation. It's just too small of a niche to translate most VNs even into English. Better something than nothing.
Obviously AI can be abused and lead to negative consequences down the line such as loss of jobs. I'm not denying that. But providing dubs (or translations in general) in languages that would otherwise not get them at all is a positive. There's a bit of irony in that some people who are staunch supporters of accessibility are totally against AI that improves accessibility.

Amazon = cancer
ItsBenWhoCares2026-01-24 16:28
They can't take "No" for a goddamn answer, I swear to god. None of us want this shit and they continue to disregard the consumer. They continue, continue, continue, and it's getting me fucking agitated as fuck. Like I'm really going ballistic. How many fucking people do we need to tell them to shut the fuck up and drop this shit? I don't give a fuck about your profits, you wanna make money? start listening to people, stop thinking you know what's best for us. Jesus fuck, entitled ass people.
Edit: Not only do I not give a fuck about their profits, I think it's a gigantic insult as a retail/salesperson and an insult to consumerism/consuming in general.
DiskKey56832026-01-24 17:19
Disregarding the customer is exactly what they're doing. They don't care. You peasants will take what they give you.
Heigou2026-01-24 16:29
Good!
Thomas_JCG2026-01-24 16:30
By all means, go bankrupt faster.
garfe2026-01-24 16:33
> UPDATE (01/23): Less than 24 hours after publication of this article, Amazon has delisted the position. The reason is unknown.
Lmaoooooo. Always bully corporations. Always. The worst that can happen is that they do the anti-consumer thing they were going to do anyway.
Doctorstrange838MCU2026-01-24 16:54
they wont stop, they will most likely hire someone in-house or someone they have connections to.
APRengar2026-01-24 21:01
Sure, but unlike creating like *secret* databases to track citizens.
At **some** point the AI dub has to come out, at which point people can rev up the bullying engine again.
viliml2026-01-24 21:20
Plot twist: it was delisted because they already filled the position.
PLAP-PLAP2026-01-24 16:39
so this is their masterplan huh? kill off any fansubs beyond extinction and replace them with AI dubs and subs once theyre completely wiped off the internet? too bad AI can never measure to even half of actuals subs or dubs made by passionate people.
entelechtual2026-01-24 20:42
How are fansubs being killed in any way whatsoever?
UMP45isnotflat2026-01-24 16:49
For those unaware: Amazon does not make its money with beeing a marketplace or even selling their own stuff. Amazon these days makes its profits from running AWS. They are heavily invested in AI like everyone else, they desperately need to find a usecase for those burned billions. Thats why companies like Amazon and Microsoft double down on AI slop.
TheIncredibleHelck2026-01-24 16:51
Keep up the work gang, we can bully AI out of the shit we love
onzichtbaard2026-01-24 16:51
Manmade will always be better than ai slop
Falsus2026-01-24 16:57
Yeah well you can try if you want Amazon but you ain't getting back the billions you invested in AI.
SoullessGinga0912026-01-24 17:00
Voice acting is an art, not a process, treat it as such. Shame on Amazon for continuing to shove this down our throats.
Twigling2026-01-24 17:20
This shouldn't surprise anyone, it's all about the money ........ if a lot of people unsubscribed in a coordinated manner over this then Crunchyroll (and their owners, Sony) would sit up and take notice. But people won't and Sony knows this, they have a captive audience, so they'll just continue to treat their streaming anime as well as their customers like shit.
nightsky_cxiv2026-01-24 17:38
Yeah I'm avoiding any dubbed Amazon content at this point, even more pissed off over them snatching Panty and Stocking S2 & Evangelion films and how shoddy the scripts ended up.
Zediac2026-01-24 19:41
I haven't seen either yet. What did amazon do to them?
Haru1st2026-01-24 17:45
Copilot is unfortunately another in a long line of this-can-be-a-website-but-we-want-people-to-have-as-an-app-so-we-can-datamine-them-for-our-actual-customers.
PPMD_IS_BACK2026-01-24 17:48
Already hated dubs and now there’s AI dubbing ? 😂😂😂
quietus_rietus2026-01-24 18:02
Amazon will never see another fraction of a cent from me directly. I know we can’t totally avoid them because of AWS but seriously what a fucking scummy company.
Dud3lord2026-01-24 18:05
As if AI subs weren't atrocious enough...
MehEds2026-01-24 18:06
Trying to justify the billions in datacenters like how a man tries to justify his new boat purchase to his wife.
FullMetalBiscuit2026-01-24 18:12
We love corpos pushing slop
Lordpicklenip2026-01-24 18:22
If you're not committed to producing proper dubs, don't dub; it's that simple.
ClappedCheek2026-01-24 21:05
I'll never watch them. Only time I do is when Im watching some rare donghua or something that would never be subtitled otherwise.
crxsso_dssreer2026-01-24 22:02
If you steal from voice actors then I'm going to the bay as well and steal from you. You have zero standing anymore when it comes to theft.
Waffleshot2026-01-24 22:17
I will stop watching anime entirely before I start reading AI generated subs.
tapdancinghellspawn2026-01-24 22:26
Bezos is spending tons on AI since his ultimate goal is to replace all humans with AI.
bloke_pusher2026-01-25 00:04
The bad part is, they'll use their money to get good anime licenses and then ruin it. So you can't even boycott them properly.

AI dubs makes absolutely no sense.
There's no universe where it's going to do even a remotely likable job.
AI subtitles maybe we can get the audio detection good enough that it seems good as long as like keywords are provided and such for each show that maybe also can be found with AI.
Don't accept that AI will somehow magically get good with no proof
For example i have been seeing "Probably - Tabun" translated strangely making jokes land weird. It happened in the last season of apothecary diaries off the top of my head
Which fansub group did this?
It could have been official idk, i watch anime through a terminal
Here’s the dirty secret - translators, even really good ones, already use machine translation tools for efficiently and proofreading. Any efficiency gained from AI translation is already in their workflow. Just pay competent translators who know how to do their jobs best.
The AI completely missed context when translating common words, for example translating « uso » as « liar » instead of « it can’t be true » when a character said it as a reaction to the path to the exit closing.
Amazon wants to completely remove humans from its localization pipeline to reduce costs. But the reality is that if you want quality, you need people to manage and direct the process.
You could have the same voice and performance across every language. That sounds awesome if we get there.
But Zuckerberg didn't want that. He doesn't even want Facebook itself to be that anymore. There's a reason facebook feeds are mostly made up of AI slop from pages you're not even subscribed to now.
Plus I don't think Instagram has added an original feature since it was acquired by Facebook. Every single new addition has just been ripped off from other successful social media apps. Stories, reels, the map, etc.
Good thing folks have already figured out how to reconfigure that button back to a control key, at least.

Not even a joke, really.
AI has been nothing but a black hole of money, and revenue isn't coming in. Currently it's still a "battle" for the market where lots of companies are popping up, and once that has been decided in full the winners will start making everyone's lives more expensive.
....but billions, trillions, is tied up in all this, and when it starts to unravel it's going to be a bloodbath companies will have to 'adjust forecasts' based on the savings AI was promising - values drop confidence drops, the industry takes a hit, the whole 'AI' market takes a MASSIVE reality check and who knows....but it's gonna be interesting
it is extremely valuable for what it CAN do, but is being pushed and hyped for crap it can barely pretend to do.
“Awesome, let’s use it to replace writers and artists”
>
> it is extremely valuable for what it CAN do
It already hit its limitations years ago. The main issue is that LLM is what causes the hallucinations. They're impossible to get rid of just due how to LLMs work. and because of that, they'll never be super useful
losing. and it's billions
Socialism for me (the very very rich), not for thee (the ultra poor serfs/wage slaves) :)
Our security cameras now use AI to guess what people are doing in the clips it records. It is mostly wrong.
And general audience will take one look and then avoid it.
It makes me wonder if at times the scripts are just tossed into google translated and read exactly as google says and no one bothers to fine tune it in the recording.
People see grammatical mistakes and such and will immediately notice it. They likely won't notice translation issues unless they have some level of understanding in the source language. AI dubbing remove this aspect entirely, so it works for the low-standard consumers.
well yeah... voice actors are paid to say what the script says. they're not allowed to change anything.
Personally, I'd rather watch a badly voiced dub than a purposefully inaccurate one
Some do, and are vocal about it. Bad apples spoil the bunch
Though it would be the perfect job to take and sabotage
Someone with zero interest in other languages or media in them isn't going to click on those videos
Someone with interest in other languages or media in them already clicked on those videos and was fine using subs
Someone who already uses the language doesn't need it converted
Who tf are the shitty AI dubs for?
People who don't want to read, or maybe can't read fast.
