I feel so weird calling this comedy when every character takes their mission as serious as life itself. And Shocker's plan is world domination, so the stakes are ostensibly high. And the fights are absolutely brutal.
But then I watch and Tojima has his goddamn plastic Rider mask hiding streaming tears of joy. And Yuriko has made panty shots part of her fighting identity. And the discussion threads are a riot. I can't not call it comedy. But it never feels any less action for it.

You will get hooked just by watching the first 2 episodes. Comedy, rule of cool, and endless anime novelty/surprises.
I can't fucking believe I, **a power ranger hater**, got hooked on this lore. It's so good. "Tojima want to be a Kamen Rider" is what that one Power Ranger Isekai anime should strive to be.

Tojima and Isekai Red are two different love letters towards the tokusatsu.
Tojima is more on the classic Showa shows while Isekai Red is more on the modern tropes.

Isekai Red is mainly about the isekai tropes, which is a shame because I liked the few tokusatsu parts of Isekai Red.
Isekai fans just look the other way every time a cheesy isekai trope is used at face value in Isekai Red. It's a bland isekai with a little tokusatsu embedded in it. If anything, it's an isekai love letter.

It is a mixture of both, but more on Toku.
* Original Sentai actors portraying characters.
* Dedicated Insert Song
* Dead extra ranger trope.
* Kamen Rider and its gimmicks.
* The urge to use mecha in battle
* Massive amount of cameos regarding Sentai and Kamen Rider.
As a toku fan, it is really easy to pick the easter eggs, references and callbacks. Anime added additional stuff as well like crossover with another mecha series.
Manga dives into more toku tropes as the story continues.
**EDIT:** Isekai Red definitely came from someone who watched a lot of Tokusatsu. The knowledge and references aren't on a surface level compared to other toku-themed and toku-inspired animes.

The difference between it and Tojima is that isekai red is written by a toku nerd for toku nerds. All of its references are easy to miss if you dont know your shit. Like i watch a solid amount of toku and still had to look up the different scenes people mentioned in the anime cause theyd be like “Yeah so the 30 second scene in this episode was a specific reference to this random episode of a season not because it was iconic but because someone on the production team liked it a lot and wanted to add in a challenge”
Tojima is written by a toku nerd for non toku nerds. It explicitly explains each reference down to episode number and title so you can find it later. It’s not subtle in its references.

Power rangers/sentai are different from Kamen Rider in the same way that SSSS series is different from Super Sentai. (Even if we get a kamen rider exxpy in Red Ranger Isekai)
SSSS series, Red Ranger Isekai, and Tojima are all love letters to the toku genre and their respective series while also being nice subversions on the toku genre.
But at the core of each if you dislike the inspiration series you’ll probably dislike the series. I know many people who dislike Rider and Tojima but they love PR/SS and thought RRI was great.

I know plenty of people who adore Lowji because he is a perfect take on Blue Ranger Rival but given a dope Rave Master styled sword, and his cool way of playing on the magicless-hero trope
Yihdra gets a lotta entertainment because of how interesting it is to see a traditional mage confused by The Magic of Friendship but still figure out how to improve it with The Magic of Magic
And Telatina is dope cause she has a Giant Wolf Stand and is fun determined royalty, and later gets great garo and other toku references
And Raniya as Amen gets a lotta love from people ive seen due to anime fans relating a bit too hard to super anxiety badasses who give off Bocchi energy + people love Egyptian mythos motifs.
On the other hand i have friends who currently are watching Tojima and forget every characters name except Tojima himself because they dont actually care about KR so they dont care about V3, tackle, rider man, etc. that doesn’t mean that the other characters are bad it just means theyre not invested in the series heavily so they only remember the lead character. Similar to how you only remember Red

For me at least (as also someone who hates power rangers and is unfamiliar with Kamen Rider), the show works because I think it really focuses on the obsessed love people can develop towards the media of their youth, more than just being a set of Kamen Rider nostalgia bait.
Also the over the top expressions and just excessive amounts of WTF comedy.

The kaijin (monsters) are so fucking cool.
And the enemy's mooks/minions are SOMEHOW cool as well. They nailed the OST/SFX so well.

They're still doing that though (running around and playing Kamen Rider). I won't lie, these adults are embarrassing (and funny).
It just so happens that badass Kaijin also exist. Plotting, kidnapping, and turning victims into bubble foam (kek).
But the really nice thing is that these embarrassing chuunis actually loop back into being "cool' again. Heck, I actually think the "token girl" is cool (and not token to begin with). By token, I mean included for the sake of having one.
The formula of the anime is adding a new character every episode, with an emotional and over the top comedy backstory.
Then there's the big encounter. Then a fun chuuni training arc.

Have you heard of Samurai Flamenco? I've never heard of Tojima, but my first though when seeing the thumbnail was of Samurai Flamenco. I also strongly dislike the power rangers, but it also hooked me.

Because I watched the show. Am I not allowed to put my opinion on the show I watched? This sub recommends or puts it in higher tiers in the polls. Every one likes to talk about the fight scenes but some how not one mention of fan service. Maybe it's in the anime communities best interest to be aware of the obnoxious fan service.
Don't worry there was a lot of dope anime to enjoy last season and this season that don't need to use watermelon sized titties looking like they were drawn by a child.

I’m going to start watching this series because the trailer definitely reeled me in. It does look incredibly good and the animation style looks superb. Everyone keeps mentioning the soundtrack so looking forward to it.
