I can't speak for the source material, but the anime. I have I lot to say. I only watched the four episodes assessible to me. So, I could have definately rushed this. Grammar and spelling errors ahead. I might misremeber certains scenes and more. Feel free to correct me.

The selling point for this series to me was the romance between a idol whose used to hiding behind a 'flirty' persona, and a fan who starts to realize how un-perfect the man she idealizes was. And instead of exploring that dynamic, the anime relies on humour--and those get repetative quick. I don't want to see another haha look Utage is such a crazy fan, haha Tamon is so anxious and scary, haha look Ori is so angry, he broke the window. But, what does this tells about the character other than: Tamon is shy, scared, but sometimes flirty; Utage is such a fan girl, she's so crazy(I'm sure you get the point). Is there anything else to them? I don't think so, because it isn't shown.

I personally believe romance relies on strong characterization. If there's isn't anything, why should I care? We don't get to see Utage at work, without focusing on Tamon, or her relationship with friends once again without Tamon (since in the three times they were on-screen Tamon was either brought up as a subject, or physically there and Utage was dragged away). Why does she cares so much about Tamon, (\[nit-pick!\] other then the surface level short monologue), and also can we see that?

Same with Tamon what is he without Utage? How was his relationship with his previous cleaner(we had one scene but it was extremely short and was centered around Utage)? What made him so anxious, plus can we not have that turned into a joke? Can we see their seperate lives?

So, I'm going to touch up on the jokes (again). Jokes are great way to show the characters personality. In Tamon's B-Side they do the opposite. I personally feel like they stop the character from fully expressing themselves, since they are solely regulated to the same jokes. And in Tamon's case his anxieties, and insecurities are riduculed. Rather than Tamon's anxieties slowly being overcome throughout the story. It becomes this personality trait that is slowly brought up to create forced conflict or as a joke where Utage can transform into her crazy fan girl stage.

Also, why do they love eachother? I'll try to see if I can answer this. Utage likes him, because she finds him attrative, and he's her bias. And Tamon's likes her because she's something diferrent than he's used to. Okay, not bad but deeply boring and shallow(shallow motivation to fall into love isn't horrible, it can be compelling. As well as having to be addressed at some point.)

Now, let's talk about my favorite character in this show. Ori, he is showed to be a bratty, entitled, egotistical child. So, why do I like him, firstly, his motivation for falling in love with Utage are clearly defined. He likes her because he believes he's entitled to her admiration and love. As well as he wishes to use her as a tool to best Tamon, who gave him a real dent on his shoulder. Secondly, his flaws, he's a egotiscal ass, Ori thinks that he could be allowed to treat others horribly, his entitled behavior which is shown through him possibly being behind the reality competation to choose the new face of the group, and also pressuring Tamon to succeed his role as the face. Thirdly, why he is like this? Ori is under immense pressure to succeed in all his ventures, partially because of his family success, as well as pressure from the media, etc. Fourthly(<welp ignore that) the potential he has to change. Through out his interaction with Utage, and Tamon--dude was an beligerent ass. Yet, when he has a moment to sit with Utage alone, he asked her about her relationship with Tamon. You might reply with "Why does this matter?" Hey, slow down with the questioning I'll explain. As I previously said, Ori is only interested in Utage because of her connection with Tamon, but this slowly changes as he starts to want Utage for her. From him mentioning how his good performance in the reality show might impress Utage. Plus, his question wasn't about Tamon and Tamon this--it was about him scouting around, trying to see if she's single. Plus he complimented her outfit(okay now I'm definately biased. But not only did he do this before Tamon, who had wayyy more time. It was a special thing to see from someone who seemed to be solely a jack-ass.)

This could be me definately reading into an important character, but when the main character don't have a set personality outside the stand-ins they are. I will reach, and try to find something or someone better. Like what are Utage flaws? She's obsessed with Tamon, the story doesn't potray it as such. And the last minute realization Utage had doesn't count. Like sis, you have been seeing Tamon being vunerable(but, ehhh I'll save it), and now you realize that "He's just like me,a human". I'm exaggerating, but it had that last minute feel, we don't her take time to reflect on how weird it is to see him, without the persona. It's just some slight remarks that are there to hint at development without showing it(it was less of hinting but ram-roding lines so it can feel like 'development' with no work). That doesn't count.

One more thing, there was a moment where Utage reflected on her relantionship with Tamon, I love it, but nothing happened afterwards. Her behavior stayed the same. It was there so, Tamon can reassure her, which isn't bad. But could the scene rest, without being utimately erased. I wished I enjoyed it. Yea, I leave it to that.
