good universally liked recommendations!
recently I’ve had a few people who want to get into anime ask me what they should start with! My top 5 are 1. fmab 2. nana 3. one piece 4. samurai champloo 5. death parade
SO these are all kinda long and I don’t know if they’re necessarily good to start with. Fmab is INCREDIBLE! But it’s a little long to start with if ur not sure you’d like this style of media. Frieren is pretty new and there’s only one season so people think that would be good to recommend? ALSO not looking for some gooner freak shit I’m looking for something really universal that anyone would like:)!
lmk if u guys can think of or anything you’ve recommended to people that they’ve liked :D!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

With that aside, there isn’t such a thing as universally liked. Frieren has a big fan base but there are still people that dislike it.
If you want something broadly liked, I would go with any of the Ghibli films because they weren’t made to appeal just to anime nerds
Thats why it helps to cater to someones already established interests.
Another is Ghost in The Shell Stand Alone Complex. There is a movie, but it is own universe and also very great.
There is also the original Fullmetal Alchemist series which is very different than Manga and Brotherhood. It is still very good.

These are what got me into anime personally
There are way more though, like Naruto, Parasyte the Maxim, Tokyo Ghoul, Akame Ga Kill, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Mononoke, Mushishi, Love is war, Toradora, Ghibli movies, ReZero, Vinland Saga, and a billion more.
So many are considered universally liked, it’s all about understanding your preferences, I personally found myself loving sports anime despite never thinking I would. So people trying it out should at least give each genre / length of episodes a try imo
they are all on the shorter side, well paced and fantastic for different reasons.
Oh! Death Note. Part 1 is way preferred to part 2, but you need to buckle down for the final resolution.
Last one I'll add is *Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken*. SoL about girls in their high school anime club.
I absolutely adored season 1 of Frieren and excited for each week now the new season is dropping. I’ve found this anime a bit late and usually hate the English dub for most shows but freakin love Frieren and Ferns voice actors. The writing of the two ladies in general is so refreshing in anime. There’s no fan service over the top cleavage or short skirts, they’re dressed moderately and don’t have the typical tropes of the overexcited or incompetent female character that plagues most other anime. The dead pan delivery from both of them is stellar and when Fern gets upset with Stark is actually cute rather than annoying like when a girl typically has a crush, love those little arm hitting scenes or when she calls him a pervert for the simplest thing but it shows her character as prudent. Frieren is humble, apathetic to anything aside from treasure chests and grimoire. And her socially awkwardness is the best, despite being 1000 years old her isolation leaves her adorably clueless around people. Love the comedic relief from Stark too even as the grounded yet goofy male character. Just a great show. Will be reading it after this season ends. Read awhile back that the writer got pretty sick, Hoping the best for their recovery. We need more ladies in anime trampling tropes.
