This is one of the many reasons I love the series so much!
The characters actually challenge and question their own preconceived notions and stereotypes, and the people they judge end up being far more layered and nuanced than they first seem.
Suzuki's "I like all kinds of people for all kinds of reasons" is such a simple line, yet it completely dismantles the idea that her attraction is shallow or limited to "damaged types". The fact that she's dating Tani broke Taira's cynical belief of the rigid hierarchy system.
A. Well, just watch You and I are Polar Opposites and you should be able to figure that out.
We can already see Tani have a ton of growth just from these few episodes as he pushes beyond his comfort zone into something new. Even Taira I felt grew a lot from having these conversations.
He's just like me frfr
Oh and I dont think I will be skipping the OP Netflix, thank you very much
He did seem like he is going to be a lot of fun to watch.
On r/manga he's considered the new ourguy rep suceeding Ishigami from Kaguya sama's position lol
he reminds me of a lot of jaded high school boys from anime in the 90s/00s, like the guy from Clannad or the the guy from Hyouka or the guy from Haruhi Suzumiya
they have this sort of aloof personality like they got it all figured out, but in fact they do not have it all figured out
[](#sassyimouto)
Suzuki & Tani: lol. lmao even.
"OMG HE IS JUST LIKE ME..."
Probably not the best characteristics to relate to.
His "literally me" energy is completely off the charts.
If anything, someone like Taira may be an idealized version of cynics and Ishigami is the more realistic one (at least before his character arc).
That said, I agree with you that I really do love that aspect of Taira. Maybe "a better role-model" for cynics/pessimists would be a more appropriate term for him (idk).
Also happy Cake day!
Meanwhile, Suzuki's already shipping '*TairAzuma*'. Looking forward to see how it'll sail.
She has terrible luck in guys but she has a good read on people and does right by her friends (and friends' boyfriends).
She definitely deserves a good relationship.
a remote person who observes others’ behavior and always assumes the worst, yet in reality cares about people around him, just pretends like he didn’t.
...i'm back, got scratched instead
wait, officer, i didn't do anything wrong, AAAAA-
...twice

Overall, it was nice to see that [Suzuki and Tani's relationship](https://imgchest.com/p/o24anazne7l) progressing well; they're such a cute couple!
Interestingly, a large portion of [today's episode](https://imgchest.com/p/o24an3x3d7l) focused on [Taira](https://imgchest.com/p/9rydnxlma4k). He's certainly an interesting character, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of him in future episodes.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

>He got thrown into juvie
**Pardon?**
Taira is giving a great life lesson that I want people in fandom to internalize.
I felt that spiritually. My cats will smother me, and I am 90% sure it’s to kill me.
OH NO
Okay, take a break, this is definitely gonna be resolved.
>I guess guys don’t toss around the word “adorable” all that much
They should 😤
Holy shit. *Holy shit*.
😳
I’m with Suzuki too, I just pulled my blanket over my head, that was too much for my heart.
***
No overlays, mk.
I politely ask that the seiyuus (and VAs) recreate the OP. If not the whole thing then specifically that opening segment. Please. Please recreate that. I’d pass away if all the VAs across all the dubs each did a portion of the OP, honestly. Have each of those shots be from the different dub teams.
**Please.**
*Ooooooh* Taira’s EN VA Mauricio Ortiz-Segura voiced Giulio (*MHA: You’re Next*) and Lin Ling (*To Be Hero X*). That’s why his voice was familiar.
This is just too heckin adorable. I want to read the manga, but I won’t yet. I want to remain surprised. But grrrr this is so cute!
Lots of girls say they have bad taste in men, but Azuma has receipts.
Azuma just casually dropping “Boom. Psychopaths” sent me. She’s just so casual with it ✋🏾😭
So much so that I genuinely wished I stumbled on this in high school or sth. Would really impart some good life lessons on how to navigate those awkward teenage years.
Love Taira's negative self conscious thoughts (already best boy candidate IMO), and he's voiced by Rentarou's voice so it really elevated the character.
As for Azuma, I thought she would sound more stereotypical gyaru based on her appearance, but she sounded more mature here.
Of course Gapacho has the right opinions on everything.
Me: "How bout I do anywaaayyy......"
Having your ex end up in juvie will do that to you.
[He also voices Tempura, Tani's cat.](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2026-01-18/you-and-i-are-polar-opposites-anime-reveals-2nd-characters-voiced-by-tomori-kusunoki-wataru-kato/.233209) I guess it also elevates that character.
TAIRAAAAAAAAAAA
And speaking of, I really love that their friends feel like people too and not supporting characters. Reminds me of Horimiya in that sense. Bonus if some ships are formed from that too.
Also, really love that we’re in the couple territory this early cos we can explore certain things couples go through in more depth. Like Tani trying to figure out what exactly Suzuki finds attractive. These are the kinds of topic you wouldn’t get if the couple weren’t together yet
The timing is extremely off, either being on screen too long or too short, ending up mistimed with their speaking; not to mention how bad the translation itself is, after a few minutes I couldn't properly watch the show and had to just find the raw episode to watch instead.
It's just so distracting how many liberties were taken with the subtitles and translations, filling them with so much slang and even changing the meanings of entire sentences to force a bad 'localization'
Edit: forgot to mention it seems like a full CC and not just a subtitle job, with all the extra information in brackets
Here comes the Tairazuma ship. Lets go!!
[And my boy Taira is finally here!](https://i.imgur.com/TwnaOyz.png) He's kinda like Suzuki, he adjusts depending on how he reads the room, but he's definitely more negative [with how he always assumes the worst](https://i.imgur.com/Yb6pZys.png) out of people. He's not a bad dude, tho. He just shows his kindness differently.
It was pretty funny watching Taira have a mental crisis while watching everyone accept that Suzuki and Tani-kun are now dating. By the end of the day, [the dude realized he's the one who's bound by hierarchy.](https://i.imgur.com/XLee1se.png) xD
Of course, someone as serious as Tani-kun [would struggle with understanding calling someone like him cute.](https://i.imgur.com/frUXqLB.png) I really like how, instead of trying to figure it out on his own, [he just asks Suzuki about it the next day.](https://i.imgur.com/llyyasf.png)
[What an absolute chad move from Tani-kun.](https://i.imgur.com/Evknxsx.png) Dude pretty much turned [Suzuki into putty in his hands.](https://i.imgur.com/cPO1GYT.png) What I love about that scene is he's just doing the same thing he does with his cat to Suzuki. xD
[Glad to see the boy trio has finally been established.](https://i.imgur.com/Gf4eaNh.png) It's adorable to see [Suzuki get jealous of Taira and Yamada](https://i.imgur.com/0wklszo.png) after seeing Tani-kun smiling with them.
I feel that in my very soul.
>It was pretty funny watching Taira have a mental crisis while watching everyone accept that Suzuki and Tani-kun are now dating. By the end of the day, [the dude realized he's the one who's bound by hierarchy.](https://i.imgur.com/XLee1se.png)
Bro thought he was Ayanakoji in CotE and instead he's in a fluffy SoL romcom lol.

I also like how Tani is so honest that he'll tell Suzuki that he can try to be more accommodating to her type of guy but he can only do so much. Luckily for him Suzuki is head over heels for him as he is.
maybe someone will create a voice dictation app so she can communicate with other people using quotes from her favorite books
I think Suzuki was definitely foreshadowing future developments.
It already seems like Gapacho is destined to be someone we will hear about constantly but never see.
I love how this episode focuses on reading the room, and on the gap between what people say and
what they actually mean. Sometimes words are spoken, but the real intention never quite comes through.
It’s a surprisingly deep topic, and this ep handles it really well.
The dialogue stays simple, yet it feels very honest and touching.
What stood out to me most is how relatable this whole idea is—how hard it can be to understand
what’s going on in someone else’s mind, or even to properly interpret their words.
Taira sees Tani as a cool guy because he doesn’t really follow the crowd and seems to have his own standpoint. But this episode shows another side of him. When Tani overhears Suzuki talking that bad guy is kind of cool,
he ask her about it. Not because he feels pressured, but simply because he wants to understand her better.
To me, that’s the contrast this ep is going for. Tani doesn’t care much about social trends or general opinions.
but when it comes to someone he love, he’s willing to move, to ask, and to be a bit vulnerable. So while Taira sees him as someone firm in his own stance, he’s actually more sensitive than he first appears.
I can't wait to see many new Suzuki's ALIEN form!
The way it delicately navigates each character's real social dynamics and hangups, both in and out of romance, is so expertly done in a way I rarely see in romcoms. And it still manages to seamlessly blend comedy with genuinely serious moments.
You can really see that in this episode, where everything is presented in such a natural, no-nonsense way like Tani's steadfast personality and Taira's revelation.
This series genuinely made me re-assess my own personality and values as an adult lol. Mostly because of Taira (lol), since he's incredibly good at self-introspection as seen in this episode.
I laughed at Tani treating Suzuki like his cat (rubs head and says “kawaii”). She looked like she might have a stroke. You know, for a shy deadpan introvert guy, he sure is good at making her fall even more in love with him than she is. Maybe because he is so earnest about it.
Taira is an interesting character. His pessimism (especially towards the end) is kinda relatable, ngl. And I guess TairAzuma seems to be a potential ship?
>*Conveying thoughts through words and comprehending thoughts through words alone, it's hard to do that perfectly. Right now, I can't help worrying over every slight gap in understanding.*
Well, this was the theme that the episode was centered on and if I'm honest, this is something I also struggle with. Like sometimes, I'm say something and I'm not sure if what I was trying to say is conveyed or not to the other person and when it's not, it creates a misunderstanding. Sometimes, it's the lack of the right term at that particular moment but sometimes it's how differently people perceive that word.
>*Suzuki-san, when you say "adorable", what do you mean?*
Like for example, take adorable (Kawai) or cute. Tani-kun can understand when someone calls their cat cute but when it's people being called cute or adorable, it's kinda confusing. But like Suzuki said, while boys don't use 'adorable' to define it, they do experience the same feeling of feeling endeared by something/someone which is perceived using a different word. I'm not even sure what word I use for it myself but it's something that just brings a smile to my face, ig.
>*Suzuki-san. You're adorable.*
Maybe not as much as Suzuki but my heart just melted here. The OST amplified it even more.
Big bro... kakkoii...
God this show is adorable.
on a more positive note suzuki and tani have such nice chemistry despite being Polar Opposites, a couple that bounces off each other that well can elevate a good show to a great one. i love how animated and zany suzuki’s expressions are
Dude instantly showcases in a single episode why I love his characterization so much. As someone who used to be a fellow cynic (and probably still has some remnants of it), his anxieties and negative preconceptions feels waaaay too relatable.
The show dedicates most of the first half to his POV, highlighting all of his negative biases and then proceeds to break them one by one. That moment where he assumes Yamada and Nabe are going to take advantage of Tani, only to be surprised when Tani clearly proves he's not a pushover, is such an amazing characterization moment for both.
Tani is completely comfortable in himself, and that confidence genuinely catches Taira off guard and exposes his preconceived stereotypes and caused him to go an a lengthy reflection about his own personality.
God, I truly love this show!
Also love how Suzuki switches up her hairstyle even when you'd think her buns would be a signature visual trait or something.
Taira feels like he has a strong understanding of human behavior and the social hierarchy that dominates society and high school...which is why Suzuki being with Tani and her friend group accepting him baffles him to no end.
How does Suzuki and Tani even work? Well, for Suzuki, it's a strong opposites attract effect and yet she could spend two hours waxing lyrical about all the things she loves about Tani. And when they're in class they're blatantly flirting with each other. And the rest of the gang accept Tani for who he is too...which just makes Taira more self-conscious.
TairAzuma? Is Suzuki trying to coin a couple name? Though Taira and Azuma DO have history as having been in middle school together, so she remembers what he was like pre-high school which is probably why he's so worked up about the hierarchy and what people think now versus Tani who is just...Tani.
Don't worry Tani, Suzuki is a cultured woman who is into all types of guys, but especially you.
I know it's because he's trying to figure out what Suzuki thinks about him after calling him "adorable" but I just love Tani imagining a giant Suzuki sitting on him. Also, his mom, grandma(?), and cat Tempura!
My condolences to Mrs. Suzuki who has to wrangle these wild siblings together. But good on Azuma for making sure Tani isn't concerned about Suzuki riding behind a guy on his bike by making it clear it's her brother. Maybe Suzuki can reward her by hooking Azuma up WITH said brother?
What's a girl to do if her BF is working at the library? Why, find an excuse to visit the library just to see him! And prove that she can actually read by finding a new book series she actually enjoys!
Even Tani's fellow library assistant is reading books about communication. How appropriate.
Tani might not be Suzuki's normal type, or be capable of morphing INTO said type, but their differences can be something they appreciate about each other as they learn more about each other...like their taste in books! Besides, being adorable is just how endearing Tani is to Suzuki! Just watch her talk about him while she plays with her hair...or how he caresses her face!
Taira is kind of...a lot, but he's a good guy in his own way even if he denies it. Taira definitely appreciates him, and it seems like Tani has now upgraded to guy friend status with Taira and Yamada. Even delivering a smile he hasn't given Suzuki, poor girl.
Taira being so pessimistic and judgmental is an interesting addition to the cast, he's already given Tani a good impression. Azuma being so open about her bad taste in men was interesting too, I was not expecting her to confess she had a boyfriend that went juvie lol.
Even if Hololive's Fuwamoco predate the release of the manga debut wise.
Yep.
99% of the time it's fine. 1% of the time you go watch the Project Sekai 5th Colorful Live stream in the cinema and are sat right in front of half a dozen _very enthusiastic_ fangirls.
Oh, he heard all that.
So, that's what she likes about him.
2 _hours_?
Ok... Way to interrupt their little world of their own.
And so they're walking home together again.
Oh, right, he overheard that.
Lol now he's dreaming of her.
And so she's going to walk to school with him too.
Oh... I wonder what she's going to do lol.
How incredibly conspicuous...
And so she's going to stay in the library until they can go back together.
What's the revelation she had?
Ok...
All that to say she accepts him for who he is.
Headpats for Suzuki!
And so he said that to her.
Also jesus Tani and Suzuki are so adorable
The manga is only 65 chapters long (8 volumes).
I understand that the author is portraying Taira's dark aura for a possible future positive change, and I'm here to see this happen.
I still can't get over how Sayumi managed to voice Susuki in that loveable positive voice from Nijika, while still making her sound like an adorable gremlin.
Main couple is still really cute.
I like how we're starting to get introduced to the supporting cast.
This Taira is an interesting character and I really like Azuma. The way she immediately caught on to Tani feeling insecure about the guy who dropped Suzuki off and found a smooth way to clear things up. Nice going. Hope she gets over her bad boy phase and finds someone nice. Her and Taira would make a nice couple - they already know each other from middle school.
Tani's libary coworker is the girl paired with Yamada in the OP. That should be an interesting side ship too.
Oh, and it was nice seeing more of Tempura too (what a cute name!)
I'm sensing some side ship energy.. Particularly betweein him and Azuma

[HAHAHA](https://imgur.com/vGdKOCT) complete short circuit
God I love this show so much
[](#ilovethiskindofshit)
gotta love how Azuma immediately understood the situation and quietly cleared it up
And OMG Taira is my spirit animal, these days I don't just feel like the third wheel to a couple, but to my ENTIRE CLASS
Ikoku Nikki and Seihantai both have amazing realistic writing. honestly, 2026 started on fire. I keep wanting more of these shows. They are always the first episodes I watch when I have more stuff to watch.
Tani as well. Dude pulling Chad moves without even realizing it.
Genuinely love the OP as well.
In terms of new anime, this is my #1 for the season.
Suzuki barely survived that cheek move, good work Tani. The casual physical affection is just really nice to see.
Considering how the face grab turned Suzuki into a small nuclear reactor, I'm anxious to see what's going to happen to her when they kiss.
So an allistic extrovert and an ND introvert find happiness together? Challenging territory - they’re doing well, and I wish them the best!
Tani’s anxiety over specific words being used by your girlfriend to describe people is all too relatable.
