I just watched steins gate…
I like to think of myself of somewhat of an anime connoisseur. I basically completely stopped watching anything besides anime when it comes to fiction TV.
I have what I like to think of a pretty impressive anime list that I have completed and rated individually. Steins gate is an anime that I’ve slept on for a long time, I’ve heard many people talk about it and I always somewhat shrugged it off. I binged it in about 2 days and all I can say is how masterfully done it was from start to finish. Everything from the characters, the writing the actual story itself. It feels so organic and for the first time in what feels like a long time I had pits in my stomach during certain scenes, butterflies in others. The kind of feelings I had when I was 12 watching sword art online for the first time.
I don’t even know what to watch next from here and was hoping you great people could help me pick my next watch! I’d be happy to put my list in the comments so you can kind of get a hold of what I’m into and what I’m not.

They are different than Steins Gate for sure, but his style and pacing as a director are there.
Bright distorted White Light and the Sound of Cicadas. I love the mood he creates.

If you didn't you maybe should.
Also watch Stein;Gate episode 23 (β) before it since it sets you up for that.
I also suggest skipping the OVA. It completely crushes a certain progression that you feel at the end of the first season. It ended exactly where it should, in my opinion.
While not as good as the original, I still like it enough to recommend the VN to fans of the series!
But for an anime-only, I'd honestly say their best experience would come down to skipping the 0 anime
Make sure to watch it first because otherwise you will be a bit lost at the start of Steins;Gate 0.
Recently rewatched OG S;G again and still quite amazed by it. Tried going to S;G 0 to keep the momentum going. And I'm amazed... That I dropped it again on the exact same episode.
I've been in the space since I could barely read and I watched the shitty 4kids dubs of the original Pokemon series. I know there are plenty of shows I "should" watch that I haven't. Never seen gintama. Never got into bleach. Haven't seen berserk. I know a shitton of shows, I keep up in the space, but I just never watched those shows. I would not ever label myself a connoisseur of anime. I know what types of shows I like, and I generally stick to those. People are meeting this guy where he is, but forgive us for dunking a little bit when someone's ego grows a bit larger than warranted, if for nothing else than the fact of "what the hell are we supposed to recommend to the connoisseur who hasn't seen one of the most acclaimed shows of the past 20 years"?
Sure but that's not what he said. To use your analogy it's like being a food connoisseur yet never having had Foie Gras. He didn't have one particular thing that happened to be famous and good, that's not the same as otherwise having only had a few limited things.
I recommend Gundam 79 and Ashita No Jo

My Favourite animes. There is an order just look for the numbers ignore the gaps
One that i also really liked, but not for the same reasons was robotic;notes. I don't see it mentioned at all on the subs, but you might also enjoy it?
Handy piece of information to have.
Thanks.
3-gatsu no Lion (March comes in like a Lion). It has nothing to do with Steins;Gate, it's a series about a boy who plays shogi, by watching just 3 episodes you'll know if it's for you.
I felt like all the characters were annoying
It was autism cranked to 11
Lain
Haibane Renmei
Paranoia Agent
Paprika
Eden of the East
Parasyte
Monster
Ergo Proxy
Psycho-Pass
Odd taxi
If you want some absurdity that is also very good, here you go:
Gurren lagann
Kill La Kill
Redline
Eureka Seven
Baki
If you want some strange vibes at times but just some quality show overall (you'll probably be pretty opinionated on some of these, either positively or negatively):
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi
Megalobox
The Fire Hunter
Witch Hunter Robin
If you’ve finished the S;G 0 then hear me out I’m going to give an unusual sounding recommendation for your next watch. The anime that gives me the closest “feeling” to S;G series is the Rascal Does Not Dream series, starting with Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai.
Why? First set aside the title, it’s a mature story and not some ecchi fan service thing that it sounds like.
The Rascal Does Not Dream series follows Sakuta Azusagawa as he becomes entangled in repeated cases of “Adolescence Syndrome”, reality-warping phenomena that manifest from people’s emotional stress, identity conflicts, and social pressure. Across the story he helps multiple girls and friends resolve these crises, while his relationship with Mai Sakurajima becomes the stable core, and the series gradually expands from small, personal oddities into higher-stakes, time and memory-bending arcs that force hard choices about sacrifice, responsibility, and who gets to be saved.
*Thematic similarities with Steins;Gate*
Reality breaks in personal ways: both use “science fiction” mechanisms (like the time loops and divergence in Steins;Gate).
Intimate stakes drive the plot: world scale consequences exist, but the emotional centre is protecting specific people and preserving relationships.
Causality as emotional labour: both make the protagonist repeatedly confront consequences, take responsibility, and choose uncomfortable action over passive wishing.
Memory, recognition, and identity: each story treats being seen, remembered, and believed as core to personhood, and uses disappearing, timeline shifts, or altered social reality to test that.
Romance as an anchor: even when reality gets weird, the main couple stays steady. They trust each other and talk things through, so the drama comes from the supernatural problems, not constant misunderstandings between them. Nothing will convince me that Kurisu is not the best supporting character & LI of all time. But Mai from Rascal gives her a real run for her money.
I totally binged Rascal Does Not Dream series in about 2 days also.
red data girl
darker than black
gundam 00
gunbuster
Midnight Eye Goku
8th MS Team
Cross Ange
The Irregular at Magic High
If I had a buck for every person who's said this about a popular anime in this sub then turned out to enjoy it, I'd be... well not "rich" rich but definitely richer than I am now.
Someone mentioned “Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Senpai” and even though it’s not on the same wavelength, it’s in the same room. Just sitting in the corner. “Rascal” is a great anime though!
Its cooking its him its her its the shit
Out of curiosity, how many?
Edit: Nevermind, stumbled upont he answer in another comment. 80 isn't exactly a lot, but eh, not like it matters. Steins Gate is a great anime. Hope you keep enjoying yourself in the medium!
