Best viewing experience for older anime

I have been recently growing my collection of older anime’s and want to have a separate tv to watch them on. I was looking at some forums and other peoples collections and a lot have crt tvs. I was wondering if the best viewing experience was on a crt or a flatscreen tv for older anime’s.

Honestly most 480p anime still looks good on a flat screen. I don't think it's quite like retro gaming where you'll have a better experience on older hardware, and luckily a lot of these shows have been remastered over time as well.

The pixel diffusion you get from CRT is mostly a benefit for 8-16bit video games. Hand drawn Anime will look just fine on modern displays, possibly better I would say. The only benefit of using CRT's in this case is if you have nostalgia for it. If you didn't grow up with CRT, then I dont think its worth the effort.

This is coming from someone who went out of his way to find two seperate trinitron CRT tvs for retro gaming.

I don’t really think it’s worth the hassle or really matters much for anime. Many semi popular shows have remastered versions and even if they don’t, I don’t think a CRT adds to the experience of anime viewing

It will do nothing. Maybe make them look worse. CRTs are only a thing in retro gaming because games were programmed with the way CRTs work in mind.

A lot of old anime had a DVD or Blu-Ray re-release with at least 480p quality.

Anime isn't video games. In older hand drawn games pixels will look too sharp and noticeable, requiring some way to smudge them together, like CRT or filters. Older anime will just look blurry, not need to blur it even more by getting a CRT.

I don't believe in CRTs for old anime for one particular reason: subtitles. Reading text on CRTs is not fun.
