Going to Japan in July, need recommendations to catch up

Used to watch tons of anime in high school and college, but stopped when I started working (4-5 years ago). The last one I watched was Dr. Stone.

I'm going to Japan in July, and I want to catch up with all the most popular animes so I can get excited when I see them and their merchandise.

I'm starting with Frieren, but I would like some of your recommendations!

Some of my favorites include:

\- Madoka Magica

\- Steins Gate

\- Kill la Kill

\- Little Witch Academia

Hi Tlacuachi, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

You'll be roasting mate. Watch Gintama. In Japanese with subs. For some reason Netflix got it with dubs and in Japanese but no subs.

If you're going to Japan the best thing to do is look at what's popular over there. Animedia and Tokyo Anime Awards are the ones to look at.

but in short it's Apothecary Diaries, Conan, Spy x Family, Pokémon, Natsume's Book of Friends, Witch Watch, Love Live and Precures/Pripara that are some you can focus on

I think you'll get more out of your trip if you watch anime based on actual locations you plan to visit. I went to Japan and it's mostly just the popular stuff along with some currently airing ones unless you go to Akihabara or find a place with a lot of gachas.

Make sure you visit Surugaya, Mandarake and Hard Off. Quality used goods (and new) from every fandom. That way if something catches your eye you can just grab it. Visual representation is the fastest and easiest.
