D.Gray-man HALLOW Rewatch - Episode 09

**F.Irst-Timer, subbed**

Surprise, I did a [Sky Sings for Lotus Pain!](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1P-ee0dbQvq5qvgOoF3b1hH7omLegXtnV/view) Ordinarily I would upload this to Catbox, but for some reason the site isn’t letting me play back uploads at the moment and I don’t want to have to wait to share it, so I’ll use Google Drive for this instead.

- [Wha…?](https://i.imgur.com/9yBx83S.png)

- [Finally got the name for the Fourteenth.](https://i.imgur.com/SSJNVsZ.png) [](#binoculars)

- [Timcanpy is suddenly large?!](https://i.imgur.com/rtm7NlP.png) [](#flyingbunsofdoom)

- [Oh wait that’s Cross’s voice, isn’t it?](https://i.imgur.com/SPmtOEW.png) [](#concealedexcitement)

- [Allen is… back?](https://i.imgur.com/EJ2twrI.png)

- [Alma’s original *was* the blonde woman from Kanda’s flashbacks to his original’s life!](https://i.imgur.com/Q0gVaGa.png)

- [O-Oh geez…](https://i.imgur.com/TvTrDRQ.png) [](#gasp)

- [You’re going the wrong way, Alma…](https://i.imgur.com/e9ACrUC.png) [](#makicry)

- [Tetsu Inada is no Norio Wakamoto, but I suppose he works for Socalo.](https://i.imgur.com/55r3aa5.png) [](#bigthink)

- [Damn, that’s been a *while*.](https://i.imgur.com/aTwQqsF.png) …Kanda getting his last moments with Alma in the same place he and Allen let Lala and Guzol spend their last moments together seems rather fitting, huh.

- [Oh I really don’t like the idea of that…](https://i.imgur.com/ilTkiww.png)

- [Fuck off.](https://i.imgur.com/pLyTcYm.png) [](#finethen)

- [Tokusa’s still fighting!](https://i.imgur.com/VdPJb5i.png) [](#rengehype)

**09: Little Good-bye**

* The 14th claims the Earl is "insane" and has "forgotten everything", becoming a "puppet of destruction"? Is that why he wants to kill and replace him?
* ... he claims ALLEN is an "insane puppet" too? Why? [](#nocomment)
* His name is Nea
* TIMCANPY GREW SO BIG OMG
* a u m? That's Cross's voice! Is he still alive, and using Timcanpy over a distance?
* Allen sees Mana when his curse reactivates after the Hekiji Barrier is broken?
* Allen's left eye awakening was enough to bring Allen back?
* Allen finally sees what they were trying to prevent him seeing, by placing the barrier
* So Alma has been trying to kill Yu so he won't find out the truth of what happened to 'that woman'?
* Alma's gonna self destruct?? [](#akkotears)
* Did the Order seriously implant a woman's brain into the body of a boy? [](#bruh)
* KANDA CRUMBLED?
* So this is also revenge for Skinn?
* This is just too tragic
* I wonder if this episode will make Sky vomit
* Allen IS kind
* Of course Socalo would be thrilled to "consider him an Akuma now"
* Timothy's not ready to take on a Third like that
* HIS TONGUE HAS EYES? Wtf Fiedla
* Alma hears Yu's voice? [](#torrentialdownpour)
* KANDA *FINALLY* called Allen by his actual name? Not "beansprout" or "short stack"??? After over 100 episodes?
* "This time we'll go together" Now I'm crying
* at least Kanda overheard!
* Allen used "adara" (incantation) to BREAK the Ark Gate?
* Back to Mater?
* "On top of that, he and the Earl are-" What could Alma have meant?
* Alma wants to disappear without being purified by Innocence? He still hates Innocence?
* Oh, because he killed all those people?
* ... a spider? really? if Nazenn is watching this I'll have to warn them in advance
* Alma confesses his love for Yu!
* Of course Miranda is grieving for Kiredori; she's a kind soul
* Devit announces the 14th's awakening?
* ... that must be tough on Lenalee, having to kill a 'comrade' like that
* Lulu Bell says they'll have to decide whether to trust or destroy the 14th?
* There's something wrong with Chaozii, and Lavi+Bookman are MISSING? [](#kusottare)
* Lvellie accuses Allen of "treason"?
* Renny is PISSED at the Earl. And she's not wrong!
* Why is Lvellie so adamant that they "need" the Thirds, no matter what? What secrets did Cross tell him?
* "no longer an Exorcist"? [](#howcouldyou)
* Tokusa is back! And he's going to cooperate!? ... until Link arrives [](#emiliaohdear)
* Link can sense "aura"?

----

**First time ENG dub reactions:**

* Oh are they actually giving Nea a separate VA from Allen in the dub now?
* "This time, we'll make it" (dub) vs. "This time we'll go together" (sub)
* Ok seeing Alma's sendoff made me tear up and get really choked up this time
* "You're a hell of a lot stronger than I'll ever be" (dub) vs. "You're a far superior warrior than I am"

----

**Manga Comparison Corner:**

* This consists of ch198 (p11+), 199, 200, and the first 4 pages of 201.
* "Kaibara Adara" is pronounciation for "Destroy Barrier" and "Adara" is pronunciation for spell "Destroy".
* V21 has a Special Thanks credits page with an illustration of Nea and the crescent moon.
* V21 had 4 pages of Hoshino reacting to reader fanart after the end (unfortunately these aren't on the digital versions Bookwalker has).
* V22 commences; it has an illustration of Cross dressed up like a priest with a stole.
* The Viz manga translates Alma and "that woman" saying _Yuu daisuki_ as "Yuu, you are dear to me" [](#bruh), and Kanda's response as "Unh" (a grunt) rather than something like "Yeah" or "I know"
* The anime adds Miranda using her Innocence in Russia.
* In between 200 and 201, v22 has an illustration of kid Alma being welcomed back by Edgar, Tui, Sahlins and the others he killed.

**First Timer (for Hallow), Sub**

Well the Fourteenth is ready to take over...and then he isn't cause Cross has a contingency plan just in case but not before Nea decides to be cryptic about the Earl and Allen being crazy. So Allen's fine for now but he's able to finally conclude the conflict between Alma and Kanda by allowing them to be moved to a different location which doesn't go over well with Lvellie but it does have Alma finally pass on peacefully after everything with Kanda at his side.

Anyway Tokusa is still kicking, surprisingly and we get to see Winters Socalo again, though Norio Wakamoto not voicing him is a downgrade even if I'm fine with his new voice.

With the 14th up and alive in Allen, Kanda looks at his fuck up and ponders what to do next.

While Allen is tied up to his sword in his mind own, and is face to face with the 14th, dressed in same suit and coat.

Yep, we kind of know that the Earl is nuts, and likely you are too Nea.

Holy moly, Timcampy got massive in a jiff. That has destroyed the barrier around the area.

And Allens back in control of his body, well that was rather abrupt, like we missed a whole episode of shit to speed things up.

The Mana eye shows us the soul od the original Alama, and yep very Emelia like in how she looks.

The Earl has literally got his death glasses on, to celebrate Alama's upcoming demise.

Yes Alama, we know this as we had the pleasure of seeing it via Allen's eyes.

If you going to go, go out with a smile is an old saying and one that is very true.

Lovely sight of zu vomiting blood, seriously, for a blood donation. Call the orders hotline on 0800 Kanda spills blood 999.

As Alma's blob is upon us at last, so Bak is back at it, seriously has much longer is that golden ball going to last for?

Tykki vs For is back on as well.

Allen finds Kanda, but he is as in pieces as Bak's balls.

Skinn has finally been avenged, yay Noah it seems for another victory.

See why Kanda's been a prick Allen? Having to carry that shit and more for 9 years? Knowing how he was basically put into another body, his love too and more.

Gods this flashback has been used more times than the entire flashbacks of Gundam Seed, they really think viewers are goldfish wth how much they keep using it.

Wrong way Alma, he's right behind you, but I imagine your perperial vision is fucked or non-existent now.

Allen as ever the gentlemen by carrying Alma to Kanda, but he has a surprise for them both.

New Winter is sadly no Charles zi Britannia, but at least sound like a twat.

Digimon Tim still looks adorable in his cosplay as Wizardmon's green form.

Kluade there for the save for her new apprentice.

Chaozii is no longer the god of the new world, but is still the same Chaozii that we all think is a busta and Allen hater.

Alma Karma now going Resident Eil like with their form, up like a balloon right to be popped at any second, any got a needle?

Kanda, calls out to Allenand for once, bean spout isn't getting all pissy.

As he takes Kanda to Alma, who plans to do a Lala and Guinzdoi by going out together with Alma.

And at last, Kanda calls Allen by his name. Ah that's so sweet of him.

Well, there they go where the Noah or order can get to hm for a little while. Gives Kanda a well deserved break from everything.

Just when Alama's about to reveal something, they choke with some sort of restrain. Wonderful, more secrets and mysteries.

Hate the Order too, well Leville, higher ups and a fair number of people in it, but love most of the peeps like Lena, For, Lavi, Allen etc.

Love Lala's theme has been remixed here, fitting that Kanda, whom wanted to kill her straight up without waiting, now lays with Alma and watches over them until they pass.

spider crawling across.

Farewell both Alma's, you have been a joy to watch and learn of.

Kiredori struck down by Winter's, always the sadistic one him.

Oh dear, another off model that needed Blu Ray fix, Devitt being all crossed-eyed.

Lulu Bell Dragon rubbing it into Lena regarding allen and the 14th is so her.

Great, first we barley see Lavi/Panda all season, now they have been kidnapped?

\[DGM\]>!And we wouldn't see Lavi again for another decade after this!<).

Spirit stone final gives way as the Tokusa spell finally breaks in time.

Alama's grudge is so vast mate, that it would fill Black Order HQ alone.

Leville getting paranoid as his successor, seeing traitors everywhere.

Renny, no one forced you do the Third Exorcist plan, you and Leville did that on your own. Despite you both knowing better from the last time you played with god.

Allen, your laying it on thick now with the Warrior stuff, the lad hasn't seen or been in anywhere near as many battles as you have.

Oh Two Mole, just when it looked like you were growing on us, you reveal your true allegiance.

Gret conclusion to the Alma/Kanda arc, finally gave us Kanda's backstory, finally developed him beyond what he has been for the whole series so far after a lot of teasing, hinting. Fitting conclusion at his first mission site.

Another mystery on top of all the mysteries of the series.

\[DGM\]>!And there is still more being piled on even today!<).

**D.Nea-man**

Tyki's new design is so confusing, even Allen's mixing him up now.

So we've often talked about Hoshino's Bleach influences, among other things, but [Alma *screams* Devilman](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/d37afa72853d.jpg). Which makes sense, Devilman is the only battle shounen more gay than Naruto and JoJo combined. In fact, the whole arc bears a lot of [resemblance to Devilman] >!a "destroyer" who still has faith in humanity being failed by them on every corner vs a "fallen angel" who couldn't give a shit about the species as long as he got his love.!<

But enough about every granny's favourite yaoi. This episode has my favourite Allen moment in the whole series. He took his failure with Suman to heart, was frustrated by his failure to save people again, but did what he still could: give Kanda and Alma peace in their last moments. To that end, [he stood up to the Order and Noah](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/b6f42a83b6b9.jpg), told them how the shit is gonna go down and that they can do fuck nothing about it. It only took 112 episodes to get here, but:

[That's My **Allen!!**](#grandhype)

On the other end, the finale for Kanda and Alma was beautiful. For one, this is the first time in the series that Hoshino is putting her cards on the table. We got Kanda's full story and payoff, without any hidden details or messing around. It's the full journey from Kanda and Alma's horrific past to [their peaceful final embrace.](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/808557c3a781.jpg) Honestly, the episode, hell the season, could've ended on that scene, and I'd be satisfied.

###First Timer

* Glad to see Allen also thinks all the new Noah look like Tyki.

* That voice. Is this Cross' voice?

* The Fourteenth is hot though.

* Alma is homophobic.

         [](#azusalaugh)

* The Alma and Kanda stuff were great. Definitely my favorite part in the new series and maybe even beats Tyki killing Allen.

         [](#yuitears)

* Allen should try using that evil slaying sword on Hitler.

* Is this the point we ditch the Order and make our own faction?

         [](#concealedexcitement)

* Allen's blonde lover is about to ruin everything.

         [](#frustration)
