Maybe in a couple centuries I can watch the broadcast from where I live
Riverflowsuphillz2026-01-26 05:19
Don't worry it still be going for another 50 years
Salty1452026-01-26 05:49
Really thought it was gonna say “is ending its run” and my heart skipped a beat.

Watch it every Sunday back to back with Chibi Maruko Chan

I hope they're starting from episode 1
Gil_Demoono2026-01-26 13:07
If they aired 10 episodes every day, they would catch up in about 2 and a half years.
LizardSaurus0012026-01-26 08:00
Why am I getting Family Guy vibes?
mr_beanoz2026-01-26 12:53
From where? This is more of a very chill slice of life show.
e_t_2026-01-26 15:00
The thumbnail reminded me of *King of the Hill*.
LizardSaurus0012026-01-26 21:02
You know what? It does look more like that than family guy

This series is basically a record of Japanese history post-war. it had been around to remember when women actually wear kimonos as daily outfits.
The reason why none of us ever heard of it, was because the author refused to make ANY merchandise for the franchise. This includes home video. So it is why it is impossible to buy any version of the show or to export it outside Japan. They honoured her wishes even after her death.
However, after the author's death, the loophole of video streaming was found to finally make it possible for non-Japanese to see any of this. More importantly the older episodes were basically inaccessible for decades.

Well, that's an odd decision. I wonder why she did this, though? Did she want no royalties from her works or something?

Some authors believe commercializing their work makes it less pure, I guess.

This news is seriously huge. Sazae-san is very niche outside of Japan since it is more grounded (at least in the 1970s) and relies on Japanese culture a lot. The anime had not seen official physical home media releases (at least until 2020) because the original manga creator Machiko Hasegawa forbade them from happening.
Judging from announcement visual, the Taiwanese airing should be the more recent seasons since the most of the episodes are retellings of the old episodes a la Doraemon 2005 and Detective Conan/Case Closed. Also interesting is that it will be dubbed in Taiwanese, since I was expecting it to be sub-only. Best of luck to the Taiwanese dub cast!

I wonder why the author don't want home media releases or merchandises from her series.
JMTHEFOX2026-01-26 13:23
For the home media releases side, there hasn't been a concrete answer but I heard rumors about Hasegawa worrying about the anime straying far away from the original manga and people would rewatch old episodes rather than watching the new episodes.
As for merchandising, maybe because she doesn't want the anime to be massively merchandise driven since that would lower the quality of the show.
1000-MAT2026-01-26 15:47
Just to add, the author died in '92, but her wish continued to be respected after her death.
dannyworld1112026-01-27 00:55
BTW, Eiken (the studio behind the anime) broke this rule.
Episode 1 all the way up to Episode 421 is available on Amazon Prime Video in Japan
1000-MAT2026-01-26 15:45
Unfortunately, because of this, most episodes are lost media.
CardcaptorEd8592026-01-26 15:02
I thought the longest running anime was Chibi Maruko Chan
mr_beanoz2026-01-26 15:07
If you think that's long, Sazae-san beats it by over 20 years
HolyDragSwd25002026-01-26 16:07
Air back to back on same channel ( Fuji TV )
Flexi_1022026-01-26 17:21
Sazae-san is the longest running animated TV show in the world.
1000-MAT2026-01-26 15:39
It's incredible that it's happening in Taiwan, but considering the local passion for anime, it's understandable.
