Do people really not like Tougen Anki ?
I’m on episode 10 and everything I’ve seen online is negative or “it’s mid”. I’m not saying it the greatest show ever but I do enjoy it quite a bit so far and was happy to see they are working on another season. It’s pretty cookie cutter but I do like the fact it’s a little darker then most shounen and I actually feel tension like characters could actually die. I guess would just like to hear some other people’s opinions, I’ve also seen hundreds of anime and I feel like I know when shows are actually mid vs fairly good.

Seems like there's whatever trendy word for great is. "Peak" maybe. Then there's whatever trendy word for negative or bad. Then there's "mid" for everything else.
So, it's either bad, or "peak" / great, or "mid". Not much gradation in this scale, I think.
In other words: (in a 10 point MAL-like rating)
* 1-4: Bad
* 5-8 Mid
* 9-10 Peak
To be clear, I like your scale better and agree. I'm just extrapolating from observation of comments and such.
'Mid' comes off as something akin to.. coworker anime.. it's not trash, or terrible, it's not particularly good.. people don't shit talk it, but they also don't watch it.. see the 50 seasonal anime that never get discussions on this subreddit of more than 40 comments per episode.
Not saying shiki wouldn't get some development but I just think rudo was better in this department.
It’s every trope in anime ever, but executed poorly and ad nauseam.
I’m not sure why you mean by tension and worrying a character might die, it acts like it’s dark but it’s actually super tame. No one who isn’t a bad guy is in any real danger. Similarly, a lot of the themes like having blood as powers *could* set the stage for a dark show, but it ends up just being edgy instead.
As more and more acts of egregious stupidity piled on throughout the arc, it became increasingly difficult to take the emotional stakes seriously since the good guys came off looking too incompetent to operate a blanket without borrowing the communal brain cell.
7-7.5/10
However, the preview for the second episode killed all hype- it quickly turned into a school arc for training. I couldn't even bring myself to watch it, because I'm done with Harry Potter-esque stories (going to a school to be trained in your abilities)
