Jujutsu Kaisen has spoiled all other animes for me

I’m looking for an anime with Jujutsu Kaisen energy: modern setting, supernatural battles, darker tone, and characters that feel sharp and emotionally grounded. Preferably with minimal or no romance.

I just finished JJK and need a new show to get into until the next episode. A friend recommended ReZero but I'm not really feeling it. And honestly, I'm finding the protagonist a little annoying right now.

Have ever watched Hellsing Ultimate?

İt's a great choice

msxiv2026-01-26 14:00

Ahh I looked it up and it seems super intriguing. I'm adding it to my list, thank you!

Solo Leveling seems to be popular amongst OP characters and male power fantasy types. I have never watched it but maybe five that a try. you might find similarities

msxiv2026-01-26 14:01

Searched it up and it looks like just what I was looking for, thank you!

Darker than Black. It's quite old, but a cult classic

Just an FYI, Subaru is supposed to be a bit annoying. The show is making a bet that you're intrigued enough by the premise that you'll put up with him while he struggles in a new world.

If you aren't intrigued then that's fine. Just know that Subaru being a bit much is a conscious decision being done on purpose.

Yeah I've been told that but watching it right after JJK kinda ruined it for me lol. I will get back to it at some point.

Chainsaw Man is set in the 90s but that should do it for you. For some reason this is a controversial comment?

Prazus2026-01-26 14:00

Hunter x Hunter. Just stick it with it it will turn dark very quickly cuz the beginning seems to be like a kid adventure but it’s as far from that as possible.

Try Ao no Exorcist, it's got modern setting, supernatural battles and dark tones, the characters are also great. It even got the inner demon thing like sukuna.

It got a tiny little bit of romance but it's definitely not the main focus. Skip the filler at the end of the first season though

ps - yeah subaru in the first season rezero definitely test your patience

msxiv2026-01-26 14:13

You had me at Sukuna lol and I'm adding this to my list, thank you!

I started the Fate series recently and thoroughly enjoy it. There's a lot of debate on where to start it but I landed on beginning with Fate/Zero and it's amazing. Great fights, characters, and dialogue.

Fate zero is indeed the best place to start

I hope you enjoy

Black clover. Its amazing, and kinda scratches that same itch for me. Its just as much supernatural based in my opinion.
