What's the most petty reason you dropped an anime?
Maybe there was nothing major, but some tiny little thing you couldn't get over and had to stop watching?
Obviously this doesn't necessarily mean the show was bad or that you didn't like it overall or couldn't like it overall. I mean this more as a pet peeve kind of thing, or perhaps something reminded you of something in your life you didn't want to think about, things like that. A voice, the way something looks, etc.

Couldn't get over the white outlines around the characters. Made it feel too much like cardboard cutouts. I wanted to get over it. I tried to get over it. But just couldn't.
I stopped watching because of the lips. A little the eyes, but mostly the lips. I don't know what it is. Uncanny maybe? I just can't get over how the lips are animated. It's too distracting. It sucks because everyone talks about how awesome this series is and I wanted to like it, but goodness the lips.
Your problem with the lips on the other hand, I feel like that’s classic shojo style art. Yeah, it’s weird, but I can handle it. Everytime I see it I’m reminded of Dan from Game Grumps seeing Skyward Sword Link and saying “wow, he’s really got those dick-sucking lips”
So I drop alot of anime
The guy just annoys me
Also, can’t remember clearly, I dropped this but I did reach a part where I think it’s revealed the previous girl he was into was also like socially isolated. Like pretty sus taste if you ask me
but dont have that as much with cgdct
I dropped it after 3 or 4 minutes just because I couldn't stand her voice and the way she kept moaning and stuttering XD. I really wanted to watch it because it got recommended so much, but couldn't get over it
But it's safe to get back into Gundam 00, especially because it's become even more (non)credible now than when it aired at the height of America's War on Terror
I'll stop here though.
Dropping an anime because one accessory annoys you is petty AF.
Side Note: I'm in the process of watching 86 right now and I'm enjoying it a lot. I really appreciate the themes of someone trying to change society from the inside while simultaneously being a beneficiary of the prejudices that system creates, and the helplessness one can feel when it seems like the entire system is designed to make that resistance meaningless. Seems very poignant in today's society.
Just cant get into it, its too similar to everything I've already seen. Yes characters themes, power scaling is different but I literally could not get past How ANNOYING the VA is for majority of the time.
- "I need to poop, dont disturb me!"
- "I'm royalty, you know!"
- "Food is yummy ~la"
- "Beautiful lady, please go out with me!"
- "I'm your senpai!"
- "Hey, hey, let's fight"
- "Ahh, my younger sister, you're always pretty cute"
- "Oh, I'm getting embarassed!"
- *guy whispering in the background*
These characters repeat a variation of these lines almost every ep which was infuriating.
It's so unbearably slow that it took me an hour to get through one episode.
Last I checked the episode wasn't an hour long or include any kind of time dilation, so you might want to lay off the pause button which only makes things take longer.
Like the anime is just too cringe for me.
Dropped because of the voice actor. Never heard more annoying MC.
Edit: It’s really cool that I’m getting downvotes on this post that is asking why I just dropped an anime. I’m note saying it’s bad I’m saying it wasn’t for me damn.
I think if the anime would take itself a bit more seriously i would love it
a petty reason but that was the question op asked
he could skip season 1 and start with stardust crusaders
I just wasn’t in the mood at the time, but I still want to check out the anime sometime.
Tougen Anki. Even though the initial plot is interesting and promises to be something epic with plenty of blood and fights, it turns out that absolutely nothing happens in each chapter. I found every situation to be ridiculous and absurd; they force things just to move the plot forward. The whole academy plot is nonsensical—they aren't even really there, and they don't actually teach them anything; everyone just levels up for the sake of it. You’d think that, at the very least, it would have good fan service with the "big-chested girls," but honestly, not even that could save it. But that’s just my opinion. If anyone thinks it gets better or is actually worth it, I’d like to know why?
It's when characters over emote and act hyperbolic. I despise that trope in more serious anime. In a less serious anime, it's fine. However, if a story is trying to bill itself as mature using a juvenile approach to drama undermines it.
The standout moment and final straw is after Eren demorphs from his titan and a bunch of soldiers surround him want to execute him. No, I don't care about the excuses. It was far from the first and likely far from the last instance. I thought the portrayal was stupid.
It wasn't the only reason but it was one that bugged me a lot.
AoT is the most influential anime of all time for me and holds a very special place in my heart but it definitely can get “over acted” in a lot of scenes
Many times the characters would go wide eyed crazy and start talking in a sadistic overly melodramatic tone and they would do it a LOT.
I honestly got kinda tired of it at times.
I feel like it’s a really one note way of conveying emotion in a very serious story.
It also makes the scenes where characters actually go crazy feel less impactful because the characters are going crazy in every other episode.
It goes along with my belief that Attack on titan is a plot driven show, it’s strengths and what makes it so amazing is the overall plot, world, and larger meaning behind it, not necessarily the moment to moment character dialogue or interactions ( although those are good too ).
There are moments like the Levi and Erwin scene ( IYKYK ) that were truly masterclass.
But being a plot driven show also makes the characters sometimes feel like pawns/plot devices that are beholden to the story as opposed to individuals with their own will and freedom of choice.
There are absolutely shows that are significantly better at character writing.
Vinland Saga and Chainsaw Man being the most recent examples.
Again, I love AoT to death but this is a valid complaint that I started to notice on my rewatch.
Not to mention, covering her eyes when she’s deaf is incredibly rude too.
Of course, he turns out really great and all but the post is about petty things. And also, he probably also gets away with it cos he’s good looking. You know pretty privilege and all. The average guy would get crucified for it
The deaf community does indeed need touch to interact. It's not the face, typically a tap on the shoulder. They also do things that people with hearing might consider rude such as banging tables to get attention with vibration. [Source](https://nationaldeafcenter.org/resources/deaf-awareness/communicating-with-deaf-people/#:~:text=Getting%20Attention,without%20needing%20sound.)
So while you're right about the face, let's not over reach with ignorant ableist assumptions.
I also dropped various anime because a girl hit an innocent boy due to a "misunderstanding" and nobody in the show pointed out how messed up that is.
I understand that many people don’t want to watch a show where the MC is an asshole.
I don't watch romance anime. If something I'm watching has eventually has romance in it, I'm fine if it's a very slow burn.
Same for the Chainsaw Man movie. I turned it off when they were in the restaurant.
The spider tanks look dumb to me and I have a hard time enjoying the battles because of it.
Selection of legs over wheels and tracks was never addressed. One assumes "that's what the author wanted."
Because it's Ex-Arm.
Citrus put me to sleep as well, didn't continue it either.
Last year I finally decided to give the 2011 version a go, with the original dub, of course. Now I know what I missed all those years ago.
I dropped the manga before I even started it because of that, tried again and forced myself through it because it was getting so much attention "it must be good" right? Nope, his personality matches his art style. Like his entire personality is just "poor me I'm fat", "everyone hates me cause I'm fat", "I could never be with a girl like her because I'm fat" and more of the same body shaming self loathing.
Attack on Titans
Oshi no ko
Goblin Slayer
ehh for me it was Tokyo Revengers. I hated Takemichi so much I wished he’d have gotten hit by truck Kun and just fuckin died he was so obnoxious.
I quit in the middle of an early season 2 episode when he was too stupid to realize that the people approaching him with dragons and the letters BD on their jackets were members of the gang Black Dragon. And it's made even worse by the fact that he explicitly knew Black Dragon was a thing.
There is one anime I truly dropped after the first episode due to pettiness. **The Case Study of Vanitas** (Vanitas no Carte). In the first ep, the MC does this flirty, princely act to reveal a victim's name (in order to cure her). I thought it was very corny. I stopped watching immediately because I couldn't take the show seriously. To me, it felt like fanservice.
That annoyed me so much that I dropped it after that scene and haven't finished shippuden since. Spoilered myself so I know most important things but actually never finished it.
- The still wide angel shots drawn with just simple face-featureless silhouettes drawn to look like it’s pastel.
- the baffling decision to have a death game anime where the deaths aren’t shown on screen.
- the weird white cotton like substance that used instead of blood and guts.
- the dialogue being portrayed to be rather stoic and dry.
Okay, that's not really a petty reason, but it was a train wreck I couldn't turn away from. I did watch 2 cours of the drek, but the petty thing I had was in the second cour, they put the female charters in Japanese school-girl uniforms during the ED.
Had the anime stuck to a single court every other season, it would still be running and popular. Instead, the rush to do 4 cours in one year? If the proposed movie is ever released, I won't bother to watch it.
It's not even comparable, Solo Leveling is the only that got a straight faithful adaptation but God of Highschool and Tower of God destroys Solo Leveling on both characters and plot.
Solo Leveling was always known for its art and hype fights, not for the plot even before anime.
So, I tried, I really did try a few times, and not just the first episodes, but also just some random later ones to see, if I could somehow handle it, but...
Because of the character design I just can't watch One Piece.
The way only some look human and most of them are just whatever in whatever size and whatever style is just too bizarre for me to see them as characters that I could ever feel with.
I already had trouble with Hunter X Hunter, and if Golden Kamuy didn't have certain extreme looking characters, I would love it even more.
Yeah yeah I'm sure it totally gets better around ep 900, shut up.
Meaning that you need to filll 1.5 minutes with each fucking page of the manga. In some chapters with lots of dialogue it might work, but in most its just painful time filling...
[Could it be Servine?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qrHgXg-cfc)
Hint - fire force
I just couldn't
It completely ruined the anime for me ,despite everything else that I liked about it
Aku no Hana
They also cannot learn other types of magic, because its all decided from birth basically exactly how many and what spells they have
Black Clovers magic system is one of the absolute worst I have ever seen
Same with Orb, though I did complete it and it was amazing, but I still couldn’t give it more than an 8 out of 10, because it just couldn’t fully keep my attention as it kept switching MCs.
Edit: the anime is JJBA : Stone Ocean
Maybe that isn't petty though 😂
I didn’t like the main guys face
98% of the comments: "An entirely valid, not petty at all, reason to drop an anime."
OP was hoping y'all would be like "I dropped One Piece because I think Luffy's shoe size is too big. He should really be wearing something more like a 10 instead of a 12." not "I dropped (insert show) because the mc is an incestual pdf file"
Eventually I picked it back up because I couldn't wait for him to get caught lol
:(
