Help me find an anime I barely remember
Hey everyone,
I’m trying to remember an anime I watched at least 5–10+ years ago, but I only have a few scattered memories. Hoping someone here recognizes it.
What I remember:
• A guy enters a city that I think was surrounded by sand or desert.
• He has a sword where he can insert some kind of gem (if I’m remembering right).
• He saves a woman during a tournament.
• After that, they try to leave the city, but the guards won’t let them.
• They get help from a mole‑like person/creature to escape.
• The overall vibe was comedy‑action.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

(Although apparently there's a remake of it going on now?)
Maybe?
