I liked twelve kingdoms, I thought it was a really good anime that steered away from the video game fantasy, just focusing on being a fantasy, intrigue taken to another world type show. It felt like a high fantasy historical other world anime, and I really liked that it also steered away from romance.

I watched a few episodes of frieren today, it was also really good, but it very much felt like a video game sort of slice of life light mystery. I just wish that it didn't feel like a sterile video game fantasy setting...

Demon slayer I thought was really good fantasy historical leaning anime as well. Naruto, I haven't watched, but I think is similar in the non video game fantasy.

So... I just don't really know what to watch in terms of just regular old fantasy, with out relying on some form of romance or heavy fan service. Similarly scifi is like that too in the video game-esque vibe.

I feel like anime is repetitive for me now, and I really desire something new and different. I want get back in watching anime, and I think ive been avoiding it because of a lack of interest in trope heavy episodes and fillers, and predictable plots

Well if you have any recs, that'd be nice.
