Tougen Anki or Gachiakuta?

I tend to stick to romance, but this is one of those times where I want to watch something a little bit different. I’ve watched other stuff like FMAB, Frieren, Magi, and many others. I haven’t heard much about Tougen Anki surprisingly, but the concept sounds really interesting. I know Gachiakuta has been blowing up in popularity, but wanted to hear what people thought of either of these two (without spoiling). Why did you like either of these two shows? What made you not like it? Should I just watch something else from my list instead? Let me know!

If you're looking for shonen animes, hunter x hunter and mob psycho 100 are some of the best ones in terms of writing

Gachiakuta was interesting at first, also love all the black representation and character designs, but it starts to feel like your typical battle shonen after a while. Its still worth giving it a watch, especially if you don't usually watch that must action anime, but definitely give the 2 animes I mentioned a watch

Funnily enough I saw a clip from Mob Psycho 100 last night and was thinking about giving it a chance. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it

Gachiakuta of the two, but I would watch many other series above both. Check out Dorohedoro for a similar vibe or Undead Unluck for a blatantly better shounen (despite some anime pacing issues).

Gachiakuta just for the art. Tougen Anki quickly became a tough watch for me. The monologues gave me secondhand embarrassment

Gachiakuta is one of the best shows of the season. Tougen Anki is poorly written

I've seen some negative feedback on Tougen Anki but I enjoyed it a lot tbh, and even ended up binging it. Maybe I'm not that tough of a critic when it comes to anime but it was really good imo, and it was pretty funny too. Sure it had some cringe moments but I feel like almost every anime does

I personally loved Gachiakuta and it's made its way into my top 5 anime of all time. Everything from the character designs, the unique setting/concept, the insane animation, the fight choreography, the OST, OPs, EDs, character development and plot progression, mystery etc was 10/10 for me. Probably my anime of the year for 2025 tbh it really was that good.
