Changing the name and style of Denmoku has really been a disaster
HelloYellow182026-01-27 15:43
Localized titles are normal, it's just that the original work never got licensed so until now people always referred to this work by its romanized name or a rough translation.

"Streaming only on Netflix" means "*streaming* only", not "streaming *only*", right? It's marked TV on MAL.
NathLWX2026-01-27 08:17
It usually means the former one: only on Netflix and not on other platforms like Crunchyroll. They usually say this even with TV anime
(Edit: the anime's official Twitter account still says "TV anime")
moichispa2026-01-27 13:25
I would say we're getting weekly on Netflix or delayed batch release. I think we're more likely to get the weekly one (hopefully)
dancelordzuko2026-01-27 15:41
I seriously hope it’s weekly. I still don’t understand why they delayed Fragrant Flower so badly last year.
onespiker2026-01-27 21:41
Likely the first one Netflix have been doing more weekly things recently and they do slow it so long as they get the content early enough to dub the material in time.

One of my most anticipated new shows of 2026.
Might be too much to ask but hope Netflix wouldn't cock it up with the BS batch release or delayed model.
Time_Fracture2026-01-27 08:30
Since it also airing on TV, it's not gonna be a batch release.
Dungeon Meshi at best, Kaoru Hana at worst.
FrozenHaystack2026-01-27 08:32
I always feel like when Netflix releases an anime with all episodes on day one that the anime usually receives less to no engagement by the community...
Railgun_8S2026-01-27 12:45
>usually receives less to no engagement by the community...
Which sadly makes sense. Engagement comes from discussions you can creat when you haven't seen everything of a Show, so its more likely to happen on a Weekly base where the chances that the discussion gets larger is just bigger since you have the mouth to mouth (or Keyboard to Keyboard) PR. When everything is released with a Batch people binge watch a Show and go to the next thing, sometimes without even the need for any discussion.
garfe2026-01-27 13:31
Yes, this happens all the time (with some exceptions like Cyberpunk Edgerunners). Because when it gets dumped all at once, that means people will only care about it for a little and then focus on the rest of the shows coming out weekly because there's something new to talk about.

Kyoani is possibly one of the best anime studios especially their background art, their good treatment of animators and a distinct character design.
I could tell this was made my kyoani just by looking at this art.
KingIcarus122026-01-27 08:16
Kyoto animation is like one most popular and known studios, they take care a lot for their shows, this anime is in good hands
Time_Fracture2026-01-27 08:25
Been announced since 2018, considered to be on hold for years, and 8 years later it's ready for release.
Aduckchicken2026-01-27 09:21
If only the fire didn't happen. we could've had this probably by 2022.
paperiveitsi2026-01-27 23:13

gem2niki2026-01-27 06:49
Netflix….does that mean it’s unlikely to get physical release?
JRPictures2026-01-27 07:04
It's not impossible for that to happen since other Netflix "Original" anime have gotten physical releases (including Violet Evergarden which is the only other notable KyoAni anime that Netflix got). But it will probably take some years to happen.
gem2niki2026-01-27 07:23
I forgot about Violet Evergarden! Weird time that Funimation was able to release it. Still waiting on Delicious Dungeon 🥲
azleafcat2026-01-27 11:35
Looks like Sparks of Tomorrow is being handled by [ABC Animation](https://www.abc-anime.co.jp/en/lineup) (TV Asahi) for global sales. Hopefully they kept the global home/physical media rights as they did for Violet Evergarden.
AkiyamaNM72026-01-27 07:06
Maybe, maybe not? Beastars never got a physical release, but Cyberpunk Edgerunners, and Violet Evergarden got physical releases through other licensors
gem2niki2026-01-27 07:19
The uncertainty!! Oh yea forgot Violet Evergarden was Netflix only and was released by funimation and crunchyroll. Even Cyberpunk was a CR store exclusive? Licensing is so weird.
azleafcat2026-01-27 11:44
For Violet Evergarden, [ABC Animation](https://www.abc-anime.co.jp/en/lineup) handled global sales for both the series and the movies. They then licensed home video and theatrical to Funimation (North America), Madman Anime (Australia), and Anime Limited (UK). ABC Animation is also handling global sales for Sparks of Tomorrow. So we’ll see if they kept the home video rights.
As for Cyberpunk Edgerunners, it seems Aniplex was involved and was able to release the Blu-rays in Japan and North America, with Aniplex of America releases exclusive to the CR Store.
gem2niki2026-01-27 16:40
Ah so that's what ABC was...though they don't seem to release all their titles listed or other distributor handle it? Visual Prison doesn't have that global sales hashtag 😭 Kyoani seems more guaranteed tho. thanks!
Makoto_Kurume2026-01-27 06:51
I thought this was a Mari Okada movie. Still gonna check it out, looks interesting.
MordePobre2026-01-27 06:57

Twigling2026-01-27 20:39
Probably weekly when you bear in mind it's a KyoAni production.
Aniboy432026-01-27 07:53
Looks insanely good. Added to my list of anime I haven't completed in 3 years
weird that they just completely changed the name from the japanese one, its originally called 20th century electricity catalogue. Also its kind of crazy that this anime was first announced in 2018.

Liked the previous concept more that whatever shounenesque shit Netflix is requesting KyoAni to make, very disappointed
azleafcat2026-01-27 11:49
Netflix was not involved in the production committee of the anime as this series will be broadcasted on Japanese TV.
[ABC Animation](https://www.abc-anime.co.jp/en/lineup) (TV Asahi) handles global rights for the series and is responsible for licensing the series to Netflix.

Can’t freakin wait.
I do wish the official EN name was not what it is, though. “20th Century Electric Catalog” sounds better in my head.
Twigling2026-01-27 15:08
Agreed, I do love that name. Still, maybe something thought that title might confuse some people.
ThousandYearOldLoli2026-01-27 14:47
Took me a minute to realize this wasn't Starks of Tomorrow.
Twigling2026-01-27 15:04
Very much looking forward to this, but Netflix could have at least put Kyoto Animation's name on the visual ........
A bit concerned whether it will see a physical release though, Netflix do have a habit of locking things away on their platform. Still, it's anime so hopefully there's something in the contract meaning that a Blu-ray release is possible in the west.
TacoTaconoMi2026-01-27 15:22

Unknown_Scythe2026-01-27 15:52
