It’s not groundbreaking or anything but solid so far. Recommend trying episode one, it’s an hour episode with solid pacing that throws you in right away. Bonus points for non isekai fantasy

It’s a lot of fun! Not really redefining anime or anything but a very well written dark fantasy series without the usual isekai tropes stapled onto it.
The animation and action are also fantastic (which is good because it’s at least half fights) with some really cool monster designs involved.
Like this is a profoundly shitty world to be living in and you see that in how a lot of people are treated, but you also have the ones that are still trying to do their best, but with a more cynical tone to it.
Xylo tends to like doing the right thing but is often more fueled by spite against the people looking down on him and that caused him to be a Hero in the first place, than by pure altruism (though that’s there too deep down).

It has good action scenes and a bunch of likeable heroic characters (even if they are supposed to actually be some kind of fantasy Suicide Squad), as well as interesting worldbuilding and plot twists. It may not be for everyone, but I recommend giving it a try.
Can't wait to see Kivia to soften up a bit and realize that heroes are good guys

This anime is completely unpretentious; it doesn't try to impress you with philosophy or break the rules of the genre. Nevertheless, it's a solid, engaging dark fantasy story with likable characters and some very good action scenes.
It also avoids most of the tropes of modern generic fantasy anime: it's not isekai, it's not a harem, the main character is an adult, not a schoolboy, and there are no elves, dwarves, goblins, or staff-wielding mages. The setting is pseudo-fantasy, set in the ruins of a post-apocalyptic world.
If you enjoy that kind of thing, it's worth watching at least a couple of episodes.
