Is there any particular reason why Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign didn't get a 3rd season?
I finished the anime and I really liked it and I started wondering why it wasn't adapted further. Looking at the statistics on MAL, both seasons are popular and well-reviewed. Were there any controversies when it was released? Did the anime do poorly in Japan and fail to make a profit due to the low number of Blue Rays sold?

In the 2010s, it was often said an anime needed around 10,000 copies sold to get an unplanned sequel. Blood Blockade Battlefront, from the same magazine, got an S2 after the first volume sold 22,208 copies.
The Nagoya arc is sadly the pinnacle for consistency in Seraph of the End. It is all downhill from there which is where the anime concludes. The story really starts devolving into some real nonsense that is riddled with plot holes and currently is forgetting some of its own Canon and it seems every chapter the author is just writing based on how they feel like writing it.
There are some good things, namely Yu and Mika's character development and some cool fights, I also liked the backstory and the revelations that came with it.
But it is a shitshow, especially the final arc. So many characters get wasted or butchered to the point of being unrecognisable based on how they started (looking at you Shinoa...my god she becomes so insufferable she might as well be the main antagonist for how much I want her to be killed off.)
There's a lot of insufferable shit past Nagoya, you end up hating about 85% of the cast and the few you do root for get fucked over.
Would it be cool to see some scenes become animated? Yeah. Am I fine with there being no anime adaptation of the rest of the manga? Yeah.
Just read the manga from where the anime concluded onwards and see how you feel about it yourself.
Ultimately even if it was good, the sales unfortunately don't justify there being another season as it isn't doing overly well enough for that kind of attention and neither did the anime for that matter.
Who knows? Maybe one day, more surprising things have been adapted as of late after decades of waiting. But the manga has to conclude first...and considering the only thing left that's good in this story is Yu and Mika if they fuck that up by the last chapter I'll be pretty disappointed overall by it. I'm hoping the last chapter at least sticks some kind of a landing.
Seriously what has happened to this story. Im basically only reading out of habit.
Cant even do the drinking game anymore when you take a shot everytime they say "family".
We all know they *are* going to fuck up the yaoi demon ship last moment.
...They better not fuck up the Yaoi demon ship. Literally the only thing this has had going for it and I have had that in the back of my mind for years now despite how obviously Yaoi the story has been up to this point to an absurd degree.
....And honestly Shinoa should just die, I think I'd celebrate
Unless you mean well done like a steak, because its cooked.
Like, if you're NOT into Yuu and Mika, you have no reason to watch the show. I don't even remember the names of any of the other characters.
I only watched the first 11 episodes and enjoyed them, but many people seem to think it goes downhill really badly.
Back then it was actually quite rare to get a second season at all, so there doesnt even has to be anything wrong with it. But who knows, we live in the time of random out of nowhere sequels and adaptions.
The anime still looks quite good by todays standards, Wit did a great job.
