They aren't calling it "Attack on Titan: The Final Season: The Movie - Final Attack" ? Sad.

I'm just messing, nothing can top "Attack on Titan: The Final Season: The Final Chapters (Part 2) - Final Chapter: Towards the Tree on That Hill"

Traditional-Song-2452026-01-28 10:52

Wait there was an AOT recap movie this year?

Leithoch2026-01-28 18:58

Yeah, last year with new post credit scene.

Prince_Uncharming2026-01-28 19:02

It’s not a recap, it was a theatrical release of the two final special-length episodes.

IMO that’s how it should have released in the first place, but I think there was a contractual obligation or something to air them as episodes.

cosmiczar2026-01-28 19:53

> I think there was a contractual obligation or something to air them as episodes.

Pretty much, they needed to air on TV because all of "The Final Season" aired on NHK, the Japanese public broadcaster

Attack on titan started bad habit in anime industry

UMP45isnotflat2026-01-29 01:38

It really is a meme at this point

*Attack on Titan Final Season? No! I dont want that! I want more parts to come out, for 10 years atleast!*

its_Preshh2026-01-28 09:04

Still pissed that the Attack on Titan finale did not first air in the theatres as a movie. I really wanted the experience of seeing the AOT finale in the theaters.

It would have been a crazy good experience for me and many AOT fans

Bombasaur1012026-01-28 11:01

It's one of the biggest fumbles in Anime history IMO. Looking at the box office of Chainsaw Man and Demon slayer it would've made absolute bank.

HarshTheDev2026-01-28 15:28

Even though I agree and the box-office nerd in me would've just loved to see the grosses, it would've been extremely unfair to anime-onlies. AoT is a plot heavy show and escaping spoilers would've been a nightmare. And many fans in non-prosperous parts of the world would not get the chance to watch it for months

Eliv2026-01-28 09:16

No nomination for 100 meters again?

Nettysocks2026-01-28 10:51

Nominations are weird, but if not enough people had it on their radar it doesnt get voted to be nominated, i could see it getting overlooked for big popular obvious names like AOT, Csm and DS, many people know about these established shows already.

Awards shows are always ultimately meaningless, they will rarely have the perfect combo of voters who will know everything about their medium or had time to see them.

Khanhspm2026-01-28 11:35

This award is for "[genre fiction ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genre_fiction)". 100 Meters (or Look Back last year) isn't really fit for this

HarshTheDev2026-01-28 15:30

But AoT doesn't fit genre fiction either, does it?

Khanhspm2026-01-28 15:42

It does, dark fantasy, i guess ?

cosmiczar2026-01-28 19:15

It absolutely does. It's fantasy, horror and even has a bit of science-fiction, which are the exact three types of genre fiction that the Saturn Awards was created to honor.

Gamerunglued2026-01-28 15:50

I don't think those are any less of genre fiction than The Colors Within though.

Khanhspm2026-01-28 16:18

The ability of a FMC is what drive the events in the film, so The Colors Within can be considered a "fantasy". I found 100 Meters to be not specifically categorized into any particular genre in the Saturn Awards.

Gamerunglued2026-01-28 16:20

The FMC doesn't have a fantastical ability, she has synesthesia. There's nothing fantastical about the story, it is completely grounded in reality.

Khanhspm2026-01-28 16:42

Yeah (although the film doesn't explicitly state that FMC has synesthesia, it almost treats it as an ability), but I guess with an award that considers Hamnet (or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) a fantasy film or West Side Story an action/adventure film, anything is possible, in fact, there have been plenty of such random in previous years.

Gamerunglued2026-01-28 16:55

I don't think the film treats it as an ability as much as it treats it as something Totsuko just lives with every day. It's a part of her life explained very casually, she happens to see people alongside colors. It's never implied to be fantastical or treated as a unique ability, it's not even really central to the story as much as just being a trait she has. But idk much about the Saturn awards, maybe they have a specific or unusual definition of "genre fiction" (or maybe they just didn't watch the movie, idk).

Khanhspm2026-01-28 17:00

Simply put, if they like a movie, they'll stretch the definition of that genre as much as possible to fit it into their list.

somekglguy2026-01-28 12:10

Why can't they nominate anime or animated movies for other genre.
I think Chainsaw man or Demon Slayer could have been nominated for best action.

Khanhspm2026-01-28 16:30

I'm not entirely sure, but I've noticed that a film/TV series is only nominated in one Best Film/TV Series category even if it qualifies for several other categories (for other genres), so I think animated films should also only be nominated in one category.

papapudding2026-01-28 17:44

It's a bit unrealistic to expect judges to have to watch 4 seasons of Demon Slayer just to properly understand the story to rate the movie.

ARHAN39242026-01-28 18:56

But action is just there to rate it for the best action

ali941272026-01-28 19:11

That may be so, but Chainsaw Man only had one 12 episode season. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King won Best Picture at the Oscars among other awards and that's the final installment of a trilogy of movies. That requires 6 hours of required viewing compared to Chainsaw Man season 1's 4 hours.

1000-MAT2026-01-28 13:00

At least here they have a different category for non-American films, unlike the joke known as Oscar.

Prize_Cheetah8952026-01-28 18:50

Animation wise the Attack on Titan movie wasn't that impressive. MAPPA's work is a downgrade compared to what WIT Studio did.

UMP45isnotflat2026-01-29 01:39

Yeah Wit was busted

fredws2026-01-28 21:38

These awards are just plain stupid, including the golden globe and oscar. More like a popularity poll or a randomizer to see which one was actually known by a certain number of judges whose judgements for some reasons are better than mine and my dog's. I cannot care less.

generalmillscrunch2026-01-29 01:13

100 Meters doesn’t get nominated and they nominate a recap movie. It always amazes me how little the professional film circuit pays attention to anime.
