Oh this is getting a S2 ? Just binged it a few weeks ago after giving it a pass when it was airing. Cool show that seems pretty grounded with its swordsmanship and sword fights. The father-daughter dynamic they had going was pretty cute too
PsionicKitten2026-01-28 09:48
> Cool show that seems pretty grounded with its swordsmanship and sword fights
This is my absolute favorite part about it.
I hope he realizes how unskilled everyone else is eventually though, as I hate the trope of "I'm Overpowered but I'm so ignorant that I can't even be convinced that I'm not underpowered."
kingmanic2026-01-28 11:02
It's a Olympic conditioned high ranked Hema fencer vs fit to unfit lodoss war larpers who actually have magic.
ukezi2026-01-28 15:08
At least His ex students are actually skilled, just not as skilled as he is.
Lapiz_lasuli2026-01-28 12:31
It's not like others are unskilled though. And it's not like he's winning with ease either. As far as I can see, other characters relay on their physical gifts a lot, which creates gaps he take advantage of. Otherwise, he's just a normal human fighting with younger opponents with a lot of potential for growth.
PsionicKitten2026-01-28 12:45
I wholeheartedly agree, which is why I like this. The part I don't like is how he *believes* that he's practically skill-less despite his years teaching. He literally thinks about every single move he does and doesn't acknowledge that his edge is a good combat focus from all his experience practicing and teaching.
KazuharaIlfan2026-01-28 15:04
Unc just need an opp that give it straight to him like,
"Shame. With your skills, I thought I can have more fun than against your students."
lemon9000982026-01-28 20:55
He kind of reminds me of Cohen the Barbarian from discworld. He became an old man by not dying, and got in a lot of practice surviving along the way.
"The man fought like youd expect old men to fight-slowly and with care. All the activity was on the part of the enemy, but no matter how well they thrusted or stabbed, the target was always, without any apparent effort, not there.' (Basterdzation of quote from Interesting Times)
Best-Special78822026-01-29 02:33
Cohen! Pratchett never plays it straight.
ZantetsukenX2026-01-28 22:33
I do feel like his visual perception (acuity?) appears to be a bit superhuman based on how much emphasis they put on him observing others as he fights.
LordZana2026-01-29 05:48
Thats what makes him such a great mc though???
Pinky_Boy2026-01-28 10:01
Yeah. I kove how his fighs are, how do i say this, efficient? He doesn't move that much, he doesn't use that typical anime attack, his swings are deliberste and on purpose. And he ends his fight fast
theGRAYblanket2026-01-28 09:14
This show would be way better if there was a developing relationship with the mc and allicia
And for those that havent seen this, yes she is an adult lol
Whendfield1232026-01-28 11:27
The mc have no romantic interest for his students though. He is old enough to be their father.
Stabaobs2026-01-28 17:40
He hadn't seen the red head in 20 years, and white hair was an even older disciple than her. I think that's a reasonable enough timeframe, like she should be at least 30 in the present time, and MC is supposedly somewhere between late 40 and early 50s iirc.
PieTheSecond2026-01-28 09:24
It's a pretty good one
Noevad2026-01-28 09:29
It’s one of the few Japanese anime that I’ve seen that actually depicts western sword fighting in a realistic manner. I quite enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to a second season.
asianumba12026-01-28 10:31
This visual makes it pretty clear to me there's gonna be a Totally Not Japan arc where he learns of the superior Nippon steel katana so that probably won't last long. The Japanese can't ever make a fantasy setting that doesn't eventually suck their penis
Lodju2026-01-28 11:35
That's the training hall we already saw in season 1.
And the dude with the long hair is the one who originally trained the MC..
Fabio_Rosolen2026-01-28 12:06
It's his dad.
BosuW2026-01-28 18:24
_Scum of the Brave_ this season also has some of that at least so far.
DWIPssbm2026-01-28 09:30
I hope the animation gets better for this second season, the main appel of the show is the somewhat realistic swordsmanship and the animation of the first season didn't do it justice.
Edit: you can donwvote this if you want but compared to the manga the fight scenes in the anime are not as good
RyouBestGirl2026-01-28 10:41
Why are you getting downvoted?lol
DWIPssbm2026-01-28 10:46
Reddit things I guess
TechZero352026-01-28 09:40
This one is nice, got quality animations too in the first season
Plasmaxander2026-01-28 09:40
And the crowd goes mild.
theGRAYblanket2026-01-28 09:46
Id prefer a "my clueless first friend" second season over this tbh
darkglooem2026-01-28 10:38
The sword fights better stay good. The fight in the church was really good
zenithfury2026-01-28 10:57
Liked this show quite a lot. Not many shows do the sword saint thing where sheer finesse goes up against power and magic.
gmorfin222026-01-28 10:59
"I **PARRY** every~~thing~~ romantic advances from my former students." S2
Let's goooo!
VritraReiRei2026-01-28 15:20
Would have been nice if he actually got into *some* relationship (not necessarily with his students) that way it would stop their advances.
I tried seeing if anything progresses in the future and the most I found was that he was considering it but that appears to go nowhere.
MarcoMaroon2026-01-28 16:43
> he was considering it but that appears to go nowhere
Just like most people who want some romance in life fr fr.
Regit_Jo2026-01-28 10:59
Is this the series where all of homie’s female graduated students are in love with him and in reality he’s the most genius swordmen of all time?
ruff12982026-01-28 12:51
Yes. He also gets same-age admirers with his adopted daughter's homeroom teacher, plus an unmarried noblewoman who is the sister of one of his classmates.
chino172026-01-28 16:04
Mans is living his best life
Wilson-theVolleyball2026-01-28 15:31
Maybe I need to watch it again but to me, only one of his former students (the knight commander) loved him romantically.
The rest saw him as a father figure and great mentor.
1832vini2026-01-28 15:47
yeah, I think there was only really 2 ppl intrested, and one of them doesn't want to do anything abt it.
the rest of the cast are charmed by his charisma.
It doesn't help that the one that's making advances is quite young
abandoned_idol2026-01-28 16:36
Yet somehow manage to stay equally as compelling had they just been romantically obsessed.
The characterization in this anime is nothing to write home about.
It's effectively a Gary Stu and his bland platonic entourage.
zenithfury2026-01-28 17:52
The age range of his students is very wide. His oldest student is also infatuated with him. That's the one who's about 30 years old, and he's about 40.
Regit_Jo2026-01-28 18:31
I read the manhwa and the first two former female students they introduce are competing for him. It’s not even really my problem with the story, it’s just that it’s not an interesting premise and the characters aren’t interesting and the plot wasn’t interesting. I dropped it by chapter 10.
Psyduckisnotaduck2026-01-28 19:13
Yeah but he’s too good and ethical to accept those advances and only the guard captain is really weird about it. It’s very obvious he sees his past role with them as too parental, and he thinks the age gap is too much.
ruff12982026-01-28 23:15
It is actually addressed and confronted directly with Aleucia later in the novel. I think that's Season 3 or Season 4 stuff, depending on how they adapt the Hughenbyt arc + the New Recruits arc that is a direct consequence of it.
Whendfield1232026-01-28 11:24
I liked this quite a bit. The mc have a good voice and his adopted daughter has a cute design and personality.
sadReksaiMain2026-01-28 11:31
This dogshit gets a s2???
Lodju2026-01-28 11:40
What's wrong with it?
There are worse shows than this getting sequels.
sadReksaiMain2026-01-28 11:50
Ye for sure there are worse shows getting sequals i will agree on that.
The mc is insufferable, random asspulls; for eksample the ep where he randomly is faster than a horse, just generaly bad writing
NeteroHyouka2026-01-28 11:52
The problem is that when the this show was first mention, it gave us the illusion and hope that the animation and fighting choreography would be acceptable but it was underwhelming and nonsensical...
The only positive thing is that we see western version of sword style fights.
abandoned_idol2026-01-28 16:33
The fans did indirectly warn you by only making claims about swords and neglecting any topic regarding characterization, the girls flimsy outfits, and the obvious harem aesthetic.
You have to learn to see the warning signs.
Flying-Camel2026-01-28 11:45
Did not expect this, but I'm up for it!
NeteroHyouka2026-01-28 11:49
Another garbage getting a S2... The story is garbage, but I hoped it would have good animation because the fights are underwhelming and don't make sense many times but alas not even that was possible.
abandoned_idol2026-01-28 16:32
I love how the "realistic swordfighting" includes our hero realistically...
**puts on reading glasses**
"Cutting a block of ice twice his size using a sword."
Can large bodies of jce really be cut through that easily by a human adult? They must be given that everyone claims that the swordfighting is realistic!
3HaDeS32026-01-28 12:29
Thought this was MT for a sec
RulingPredator2026-01-28 12:55
This show was actually pretty great. Looking forward to another season of this.
EmprahCalgar2026-01-28 13:50
Is this going to be on amazon video again or do we not know?
MisterMaus2026-01-28 14:22
Very grounded one but it also made it feel that the MC wasn't *that* impressive with his skill
lancer0812922026-01-28 14:53
Hopefully the team gets more time and manpower to work with. They are clearly passionate but really didn’t have the resources to make season 1 live up to its potential.
GrowRoots2026-01-28 15:03
🔥🔥🔥
TheOneAboveGod2026-01-28 15:28
Man, it really is such a shame that this is the timeline where they decided to be faithful to the novels instead of adapting the manga version that actually made the series popular.
Aksudiigkr2026-01-28 17:42
How much did the manga change things? Is it worth reading over watching s1?
Dastiano2026-01-28 18:19
A lot and yes, things are just much more fleshed out in the manga.
GaaMac2026-01-28 19:21
Yes! The manga is so much better.
PLAP-PLAP2026-01-29 08:24
its the difference between hellsing and hellsing ultimate if you ever watched those shows
youawholefaker2026-01-28 18:11
Was it a big change? The manga and anime were very close
Stabaobs2026-01-29 06:17
I only saw a bit of the anime, but from what I saw, the overall plot was the same, but the execution was totally changed.
The most notable change I recall was the church knights, most notably Spur and his entourage getting more focus.
DireSickFish2026-01-28 15:31
The best parts of this show were the father-daughter style relationship and the sword fights. I really wish it didn't do the unaware harem stuff. It really drags the show down.
AmeerFarooq2026-01-28 16:28
Never expected a season 2 but much appreciated.
Viktorv222026-01-28 16:30
I'm looking forward to this. Season one was such a good watch.
AceSoldia2026-01-28 17:09
Oh hell yeah..wow I can't wait
Mythronger2026-01-28 17:15
I'll never forgive them for cutting one of my fave manga characters (and fav3 scene) from season 1. Will still watch tho, as it was enjoyable.
fan_of_skooma2026-01-28 18:12
Paul Greyrats long lost brother
Brilliant-Pomelo-1652026-01-28 18:27
Excellent loved this series and ended up reading the light novels to :)
Desmater2026-01-28 21:10
Enjoyed season 1, can't wait for season 2.
pthumerianhollownull2026-01-28 23:52
yay
mandarintain2026-01-29 00:12
Anyone find this show a little too tame?
Jaebird03882026-01-29 02:47
I enjoyed the first season. It was refreshing to see what seemed like it could have been another harem turn out to really only involve one character having those kinds of feelings for the titular protagonist. The rest simply admire and respect him platonically as their former/current teacher. And the CG fight scenes were pretty good, imo. It was like watching a fighting game play out, and I mean that in a good way.
Daxefic2026-01-29 05:40
Thought this was a mushoko tensei poster with the font
