But what the cover picture most reminded me of, is [other show with "bloody + cute girl" promo art (that's a bit of a spoiler)]>!Talentless Nana!<
[](#flustered)
[Pokémon Horizons next week] >!the recovery of the six heroes should hopefully happen setting up a counter attack from Spinel!< and while we are naturally hitting the end of the cult content it's nice that the week after will be a social commentary episode and a nice downtime episode *to let a certain other Friday show have full spotlight*
I am very appreciative that it all feels contained and every episode relates to another even if Horizons suddenly ended up with 24 more episodes. I just hope we get official confirmation soon how long it's going on for

So, I did that. Sometimes I forced myself not to nitpick something I was immensely fond of 20 years ago. But what was great about the series is still great, and, honestly, we don't have much stuff like that.
Was surprised that Haibane managed to get into top-25 in [Fetch's poll for favourite 1-cour anime](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1exqhw5/ranimes_favorite_one_cour_15_episodes_or_fewer/). I was under impression that it is too much of a cult classic, and the list would be filled by more modern popular but incomplete adaptations. Guess it really is something that stayed with people over the years. [Haibane]>!"Reki, I will never forget you"!<.
i have never really been able to get into texhnolyze for some reason despite attempting to watch it multiple times
Texhnolyze is visually incredible and emotionally powerful, but I think I have only watched it all the way through 3 times. I need to get around to another rewatch.
Have you seen HR's fraternal twin Niea_7 (conceived right alongside HR). Not as intense and sometimes a bit too silly, but the best parts are very very good (and it has a number of Takahata homage moments).
>>was never posted to r/anime

There's literally nothing in the announcement except that it will broadcast on AT-X at some point in 2026 and the only posts from the official account since seem to be new chapter releases for the manga, as apparently the original LN got axed but the manga continued.
On another note, referring to a zombie vaccine being sex as innovative is a bold lie, theres like a dozen eroticas that are literally this exact plot.

But at the same time, that has often been the case in the media industry, and there is so much anime produced today that there are several unique and interesting shows created every season, which are easy to find if you look beyond the broadly popular action shonens, fantasy isekai and high-school romances that are pushed heavily by Crunchyroll's front page.
Of some of my favorite shows from the last years, I have a hard time describing any of them "similar" to each other.
* [Umamusume: Cinderella Gray](https://anilist.co/anime/180516/Umamusume-Cinderella-Gray/) is a sports anime which is as comedic and dramatic as its concept of racing horses turned into anime schoolgirs is "oh Japan"-bizarre.
* [Shoushimin: How to Become Ordinary](https://anilist.co/anime/173295/SHOSHIMIN-How-to-Become-Ordinary/) is a weirdly "ordinary" high-school mystery about two people who are far from your average romcom leads.
* [Apocalypse Hotel](https://anilist.co/anime/180675/Apocalypse-Hotel/) is a story about a lonely hotelier-robot in a world where humans have disappeared, which manages to be as melancholic and somber as it is unpredictably comedic.
* ['Tis Time for "Torture", Princess](https://anilist.co/anime/166522/Tis-Time-for-Torture-Princess/) is a very chill and simple comedy about a captive princess being subjected through various unconventional "torture" methods. I find it an exceptional proof that comedy is just as much in delivery as it is in coming up with something subversive and new.
* [Medalist](https://anilist.co/anime/165171/Medalist/) is a heartwarming sports story about a young girl who finally gets to find her purpose and motivation in one of the most competitive and difficult sports out there, figure skating.
* [Journal with Witch](https://anilist.co/anime/177385/Journal-with-Witch/) is about an introverted novelist who find herself living with her estranged sister's daughter after a fatal car accident. Equally heartwrenching and heartwarming about creating a new family and processing grief.
And thank you for validating my feelings🥹
i think i got my fill of all battle shonen after watching the first arc of Bleach, like, 20 years ago
nowadays, i mostly watch chill slice-of-life shows and romcoms because ultimately the part i liked most is to be able to relax and goof around rather than be led by the nose by cliffhangers
like, i think tropes aren't inherently bad because they're like the raw ingredients for a dish; the journey is about finding what flavors you enjoy and finding genres and niches which serve them up regularly
That channel also has other things including: E1-13 of *Gachikuta* with Chinese subs (available in many more regions), unsubbed versions of 2 BL specials (*Neko ni Naritai Tamagawa-kun* and *A Love Too Captivating*), *Fairy Tail movie: Dragon Cry* (sub and dub - not in USA, Canada, Japan and a few like Puerto Rico, French Guiana, Falkland Islands), [*Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZp2KB5L1Ys) (this one is probably most useful as I guess the CR stream is via Discotek license so not available in many countries making the franchise one of those annoying missing a main plot part for some, well if the 1998 TV series is NISA license that might also go missing soon^(*) making it missing a lot more - CR got that about the same time as NISA were doing the physical release and NISA also licensed it to Funimation in 2020 as a bundle of NISA content).
^(*)-For those unaware NISA have been letting licenses expire (not licensed new titles in about a decade, threw their content onto a lot of services ~5 years ago). That includes things I'd consider popular "don't let this go unlicensed" things like *Toradora* (it still get talked about, maybe not in the kindest sense).
For those who feel differently, can you help me understand where the excitement comes from?
Now add that number of people to the number of people who are hyped for nostalgia and it do a big math.
> I refuse to believe we can't all see that clear as day
That seems a little closed-minded, no? Can you *really* not conceptualize that other people might enjoy something that you don't?

I'm reminded of the Anime Beans service that [went defunct a few years ago](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2023-01-31/production-i.g-anime-beans-streaming-app-ends-service-on-march-31/.194367) and I'm still salty about that because there were some anime on it that seem to be [genuinely lost to the wider Internet](https://myanimelist.net/stacks/50179).
[](#annoyedkiki)
During broadcast the eps 1-3 were multiple YT shorts but after ep 12 they brought in the paywall model for all but the newest ep. Why these are paywalled is they're also on vertical video content platforms in the same manner (I think those took a similar model to manga of new and early chapters are free). I think virtually all the "anime" content on those is motion comics.
I would be remiss to not mention the occasional AI generated images Shuukan Ranobe Anime has (Marie Antoinette and Femme Fatale Development Plan are clear offenders, like [I know the camera lies but come on](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/bd3ccb4f2a47.jpg) [AI image]>!I've heard of crazy paving but WTF!< shame as that same ep had [this part](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/279b7d116301.jpg)).
Btw, vertical content came back in [Duanju](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duanju) form. Some of them are app exclusive and microtransaction to death models. I guess likes of Anime Beans and Quibi were smart but either too early or too ethical for their own good.
[](#takasakiapproves)
Sad we never got it "normally" and all (with episode discussions)
Edit: if you had reasons for avoiding the other stories by them those probably still apply, but I think it's the most approachable of their adaptations these days if you're curious.
*Offer does not apply to the punks on the AOTY jury.
They clearly love the abuse anyway [](#modabuse)
[](#taigasigh)
Like sure, Clannad had its own vagueness with the girl and the robot appearing super early and not explained until much later, but Tomoya's own problems were made very clear by the end of episode 1. And every arc it's relevant, and makes it pretty clear that Tomoya matters. You can't replace him with another character and have the same story. I can't say the same for Hairi, at least during the first cour. The insistence on hiding his problems behind this mystery made him too generic IMO and the format really suffers without a good main character.
Also [Summer Pocket genre stuff I guess]>!time looping makes it really hard to care when the time loops aren't revealing anything meaningful to the person being time looped, or the viewer, in the case of stuff like Higurashi.!<
At best I can say it was better than Air and Rewrite as far as Key adaptations go, but nowhere close to Clannad, Little Busters, or Kanon.
There were a lot of character introductions early, then most just... dissappeared. I get this may be the VN route posting it, but for an anime, it's really annoying. Then the characters are so poorly introduced, I had no real attachment to any of them, even the one they stuck with for the first route. The ending of the arc wasn't satisfying, and left me with questions. But I didn't really care.
So, no, I would not recommend.
But is it getting through 16 episodes that I am really meh on? I would say no.
FWIW this is a hot take among Summer Pockets fans, most seemed to think the second cour was better.
Personally I thought the first court was better, exploring little mysteries/arcs with different girls.
Second cour was mostly an arc on its own and wasn't the same 'format' at all, and didn't really work for me. (Completed it mostly as a Sunk Cost thing).
But the first cour DOES have its moment, both in 'cute', and in 'feels'. Like [this excellent clip](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1lcvi9b/mugyu_song_summer_pockets/) posted by a r/anime user of great taste.
[](#urbansmile)
(Probably doesn't do much out of context, but this song/scene made grown people cry!)
[](#taigasigh)
But the truth is, the TV episodes could also be considered unfinished, as the production of the show is clearly needing to work up until the broadcast of the episodes, so the real finished version (or something close to it) will be the blu-ray because that's when the staff will not be on too tight of a deadline
Anyway, because of what I explained about the deadlines, there's no way to watch the "more finished" version of the episodes legally outside Japan. The only alternative to Crunchyroll would be a streaming service that was releasing the episodes with delay (meaning they could wait for a more finished version), but there isn't, so the only legal option would theoretically be watching the Japanese TV airing or in some Japanese streaming service (as they also don't need subtitles, which is how there's the "Amazon Prime version" that some people are talking about, it's not on Prime outside Japan)

[**Great**](#gintamathispleasesme)
- (*Ikoku Nikki*) — I've still only seen the first episode but [it wrecked me](/r/anime/comments/1qcjg4e/anime_questions_recommendations_and_discussion/nzjkcyc/) so I want to approach it when I'm ready rather than staying week to week.
- *Fate/strange Fake* — I'm ostensibly a fan of the Fate franchise and have been playing Grand Order for seven years but none of the anime have been that good for me outside of the comedic slice of life ones. This is on course to change that and it looks fantastic so far.
- *You and I Are Polar Opposites* — Taking advantage of the medium, lots of fun and I like the dynamic of the lead couple.
- *Tamon's B-side* — I like Hayamin's righteous fangirl mode.
[**Good**](#mayushii)
- *The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife* — Fluff adult romance and has a nice handle on showing disability so far.
- *In the Clear Moonlit Dusk* — I enjoy the dynamic of the lead couple and Yoi's outlook on things.
- *HanaKimi* — Looking forward to their shenanigans each week. It might be tropey like some others further down the list here but it's executed better even aside from the relative age of the source material.
- *Bean Counter* — This is the kind of series where I want more of all parts of it but the show only has so much time to work with.
[**OK**](#ok)
- *The Holy Grail of Eris* — Premise is interesting but not sure it'll hold up long term.
- *Champignon Witch* — Premise *had* been interesting then it took a turn in a direction I don't care for as much, also the production feels like it's getting rougher.
- *The Villainess Is Adored by the Prince of the Neighbor Kingdom* — I have no idea what this series is trying to do but it's not actively annoying me.
- (*SI-VIS*) — A few episodes behind, the first cour didn't really hook me.
[**Needs Improvement**](#miyamoriunimpressed)
- *Anyway, I'm Falling in Love with You. S2* — Better than the first season so far but that's not saying much, could do better about handling the jumps between time periods.
- *You Can't Be In a Rom-Com with Your Childhood Friends!* — House of harem romcom tropes and no substance.
- *There was a Cute Girl in the Hero's Party* — Production is lacking, writing isn't great, but I feel like there's potential still.
- *Mayonaka Heart Tune* — Stiff animation and I just don't care about the characters and along with the childhood friends one there's going to be zero relationship development in the anime, just harem beats by rote.
- *Roll Over and Die* — Still in the 2edgy4me zone.
Tamon-kun wa kami!

> Bean Counter — This is the kind of series where I want more of all parts of it but the show only has so much time to work with.
It's not going much faster than the manga adaptation does, but it still feels a little brisk. On the other hand, though, it's so much fun to have pulpy romance novel tropes in an anime. That doesn't happen much.
The first chapter alone makes me think it's gonna be more horny/more controversial/more 'dropped by its streaming platform on day 1' than all the big ones (Ishuzoku Reviewers, Nukitashi, Gushing..)

There's a brief scene where the male MC imagines himself as the protagonist in an otome game. In this pixelated game worla, he tries to win over a long blonde-haired girl. Although he keeps losing choosing different routes, he continues to burn the midnight oil, trying to pass the stage to prove to himself that he could win her in real life too. I was thinking gamers! Or More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers but couldn't find the exact scene.
It's not the world only god knows.
Really hope this show does end up going the romance route because [episode 5] >!Wanda not correcting the store owner when he called Kabo her boyfriend, and then holding Kabo's hand afterwards,!< was so precious.
[](#anko)
[Future romance plot spoiler--don't read if you don't want to know] >!It goes nowhere. My only real disappointment with the show.!<
[](#listen)
Most importantly, the subs I got had proper animated, colourful and overall just cool karaoke lyrics for the OP. I miss those things *sooooooo* much from the old fansub days!
[](#yuishrug)
Kaiji, Paranoia Agent and Chainsaw Man have been some of my recent faves. Am watching Texhnolyse, Akagi and Gangsta atm that are in the right ballpark. Also I really liked Odd Taxi and despite the macho-ness (maybe because it was so over the top it became homoerotic and camp) Kengan Ashura.
Darker the better :)
Less sci-fi:
Heavenly Delusion
Patema Inverted
More sci-fi
Vivy
Usuzumi no Hate / Color of the End (This is a manga but might fit what you're looking for)
Honorable mention:
Made in Abyss
Oh, and if you're open to all fiction, the the one thing I think fits what you're looking for the best is the novel The Road. There's a live action movie adaptation that's okay, but the book is way better (as it usually goes).
That's him! He's manipulating karma counts!

it's not objectively a huge difference, but i think the way the show in general is a bit subdued (in comparison to other bright and poppy shows) makes it feel bigger than it is
yo aqrd if you have seen one (or more) of these shows drop a rating and a quick opinion. its really just a random collection of anime off the top of my head that i think are pretty cool.

9/10. Very suspenseful show that kept me on the edge of my seat for most of it, but had some weaker parts holding it back from a 10 for me. Also [Wareta Ringo](https://v.animethemes.moe/ShinsekaiYori-ED1.webm) is an all-time banger of an ED.
>Gundam 00 (2007) Mecha - 50 eps
I originally scored both seasons a 9/10, but bumped up the score after hosting the rewatch for it back in 2024 (just for the two seasons though, the movie's still a 9). Solid mecha designs, great main cast, *very* effective sad moments whenever it goes for that, and it blessed us with the existence of Patrick Colasour. [](#utahapraises) Also [Prototype](https://v.animethemes.moe/Gundam00S2-ED1.webm) live rent-free in my head, one of my favorite EDs in the entire Gundam franchise for sure.
>Gunbuster (1988) sci fi - 6 eps
9/10. I... admittedly vibe with Diebuster a bit more than this one [](#fingertwirl), but this one's still definitely an all-time classic and I absolutely love the style of the last episode.
>8th MS Team (1996) Mecha - 12 eps
I should rewatch this at some point. Anyways I gave it a 10/10 when I finished it for the first time and [have a full write-up about it](https://old.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/8djepg/free_talk_fridays_week_of_april_20_2018/dxzbqr4/), so I'll just link that.
>Cross Ange (2014) sci fi - 25 eps
I could have sworn I gave this a 10, but apparently I gave it a 9? The most glorious entertaining trainwreck ever. [](#gintamathispleasesme)
Wareta Ringo!! How could I have forgotten about that! It was one of my favourites back in the day, had the song on my anime playlist.
For Cross Ange, I watched it for the first time [alongside the 2020 rewatch](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/wiki/rewatches/rewatch_archive/2020#wiki_cross_ange), then hosted my own one for it in 2022 [as part of my first Terrific Trainwreck Trio rewatch](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/wiki/rewatches/rewatch_archive/2022#wiki_cross_ange). Both rewatches have comment sections that are *incredibly* fun to read through if you ever feel like seeing episode-by-episode commentary on it.
That might be a fun read!
I think it does some interesting stuff with its relationships and social classes, didn't really care for [From the new World] >!the rat war that takes up the latter portion of the series!<. Very reminiscent of YA dystopian literature. 7/10
> Gunbuster (1988) sci fi - 6 eps
Beautiful mecha animation. My favorite part is how it handles [Gunbuster] >!time dilation and sacrifice, especially for the finale!<. Things like [Gunbuster] >!Kazumi's crush on the coach!< fell a little flat for me and almost felt like an afterthought, possibly a victim of the runtime. 7/10
Both shows I think are pretty good, didn't quite enjoy them enough to be favorites. Haven't seen the other shows you listed yet.
I only gave it a 9 because the beginning is a bit slow. One of my most rewatched shows of all time. Having a finished story within 2 cours is just nice. So many others just drag or continue until they get boring or implode (if they get adaptions at all). Also yes I only watched it because of that one yuri clip. Also squaler is a hero.
Havent seen, considering the rest of this list I probably should?
Darker than Black, another classic. Really good, dark, mature story. Nothing much else too say. S2 was weaker but not that bad, the in between OVAs and S2 ending made me really wish for more. A shame the story never continued/finished. I guess DtB has both the best and worst aspects of beeing an original anime. (Idk what I rated it, 8 or 9)
Gundam 00, my entry to the gundam franchise. Still its overall best entry I would say (as some of the cooler entries like Thunderbolt arent standalone), it has everything Gundam UC has but more condensed. Beeing completely standalone is an upside and having enough eps to properly develope the plot and characters is something the newer gundam spinoffs are severely lacking (looking at you here WfM) 8
Gunbuster - holy shit man Gainax really is just build different. Ever since I have seen Gainax "short" anime I had a completely different outset on just how much story you can put in 6 episodes. By that I mean Gunbuster, Diebuster and FLCL. They managed to cram a proper plot, with characters and developement into the amount of episodes other shows need just to finish a shitty melodramatic backstory. Looks amazing, has this cold, hard sci fi feel to it. Where aliens are allowed to be simply the enemy and the plot does not turn into "lets get all along and be friends". Also one of the few sci fi anime stories who threat the vastness of space with respsct. If you know you know.. 9
I will just talk about Diebuster now because while its not as outstanding as Gunbuster, it still belongs together. Yes you basically only watch it for the ending tying everything up, or for the music. But the vibes beeing so completely "upbeat" and colourful compared to the bleakness of Gunbuster was nice. I think its characters might also be better, but maybe I simply remember their designs more vividly than Gunbusters. Either way its 6 episodes just check it out too. 8 (I really want to rewatch gunbuster and diebuster now)
(Bonus mention, if you like the "literal space pulling us apart" theme of those, watch Hoshi no Ko. No I dont bring this up because I mistyped Oshi no Ko on mal.. I did not! Ok I did but I actually have the BD bundled with 5cm per second)
Havent seen
08th MS team. Great mecha, great gundam. Remember what I said about 00? This is why I specified 00 beeing standalone. Because I guess you can watch this standalone, but its really just a side story for the main UC timeline with all its up and downs. 8
Cross Ange. My beloved. 11/10, sunrise cooked a 5* meal. Whoever looked at Code Geass and decided to make it horny, I owe you a drink. Seriously though *Ange is the single best female main character of any medium*. Ripley seems downright boring in comparison. Almost all of my recommendations on reddit are for cross ange. I will always find a way to recommend it. I can not recommend it enough. If this was not on the list I would have mentioned it anyway. Sunrise give me new merch. And to think I only randomly watched it because some guy on MAL had a signature of it, I couldnt even thank him because I never found him again. Why is the show called Cross Ange? *Ange is always cross* (not a joke by the way, ^^a ^^quote ^^from ^^the ^^show) between Code Geass and Cross Ange sunrise really stole the original anime crown for me. Rated it 8.
Magical tech jesus, fun show 10 years ago. The last bastion for the now forgotten pre isekai juggernaut of a genre that is "magical high school with battle tournaments, underdog but actually OP MCs, harems and incest" seriously for a while we had a lot of those. Lots of stereotypes done well. Like that one ultra buff guy on the student council looking like hes an adult or just the student council having more power than the prime minister. Tatsuya is just OP and its satisfying to watch. He suffers from the Kirito syndrom a bit but I would still have a drink with him. Onii sama onii sama onii sama onii sama. Are they related by blood? Does that make it better? I have no idea why this suddenly got sequels but Im not complaining. (peak wincest movie coming by the way). Post S1 the quality dips and the plot gets a bit confusing, but auntie maya is a giga milf and this show knows that proper dresses are nice. Lots of nice characters, a fun plot, nice action. Overall rock solid show. (S1 that is. The rest is eh, just skip to the incest and spare us the side plots) rated it 7 but its one of those very strong 7s you likely wont forget
im a total dork for magic high so really im gonna glaze and praise it unfairly. it is what it is. theres a spin off about the sister as well. its called *the honor at magic high* and it retells some of the content from season one while adding new scenes and a couple new side characters to join miyuki in her escapades. i think the later half of the first season is probably the best of the work. BUT the sister spin off is a nice compact 12 ep cour that has decent writing. so you could always give that a crack for the lulz. i personally did like both movies. season 3 (recent actually) was rather weak sadly. season 2 being okay with highs and lows but middling over all. another movie is coming out soon so maybe jump back in?
if you look up what 'red data' means its about rare animals that are at great risk of going extinct. its a list of animals that need special protection and their names are written in red. as i mentioned the genre is supernatural. i cant really tell you anymore than that without starting to erode some of the fun youd have watching it yourself for the first time. should you watch it? let fate decide.
**Cross Ange**
One of the most interesting female protagonists I've encountered across any form of media, in a wild series that is anti-establishment and subversive on multiple levels, including being willing to give up the entire narrative conventions of fiction for a gag. Also largely unwatched and unappreciated by those who are searching for such things in more superficially intellectual properties, given it's a profoundly feminist work in the messiest way possible, including its inversion of "fall and boob grab" tropes that doesn't really work, but nobody else has ever dared try.
**The Irregular at Magic High School**
If Shakespeare wrote an anime, it would probably be this one. Most people equate his name with "highest quality literature" but that completely misunderstands the substance and nature of his dramatic works. Forced incestuousness through fate's cruel hand, constant convoluted scheming from powerful families, seediness in unlight rooms to the sides of the brighter world, casts of fools and thwarted characters... now *this* is the stuff of the Bard.
i love magic high to death so thats such an apt conclusion for you to draw!
ill close with saying you have a wonderful way of words. this was a great comment to interact with. thanks so much for taking the time to write it out for us.
I really liked the characters from 00 and the story during the first half, though I wasn't as into the plot twists from the second half, so I gave it an 8.5/10 - 9 for part 1, and 8 for part 2.
8th MS Team was interesting in the sense that it was a more grounded war story with mechs, but I didn't really care for the characters so it didn't leave much of an impression for me. But I thought the story improved as it went on, and gave it a 7.5/10.
9/10 It's one of my favourite Gundam entries, and probably one of my favourite UC entries. I really dig more grounded mecha (my favourite is Votoms) and I really like the dynamic of the group, and the enemies to lovers plotline. The only issue is that yeah...it could have benefitted from a longer run time. Honestly...if it was like 24-39 episodes, I think it would beat out Votoms for my favourite mecha anime.
>The Irregular at Magic High School (2014) action - 50 eps
6/10 It's not a great show.....I still like it though. The power fantasy element especially gets kinda crazy (I have only seen S1) to the point it steals a lot of the tension. Still I do love stoic MCs, and the world is actually quite interesting....granted the school setting itself is boring. Still characters are likeable and I want to get caught up with the recent entries.
>Midnight Eye Goku (1987) Mystery - 2 movies
7/10 I like Buichi's other work Space Cobra more however, it's pretty fun.
>Gunbuster (1988) sci fi - 6 eps
7/10 I honestly want to give it a higher grade, though again, this is a work I wish had a longer run time. The time dilation stuff though was really cool, and overall it has one of the coolest robot transformation sequences alongside beautiful art/animation.
i put midnight eye on this list as a mini shit post within the comment, really. nice to see someone has seen it!
id have a hard time justifying a 8 for gunbuster because i think its got a lot weaknesses. as a huge mecha fan i can give it a 7.9 easily tho!! haha loophole, baby!
Unironically some of the best writing I've seen in a novel-to-anime adaptation in a long time. The show spends about three quarters of the show is purely building toward the climax. It’s "Attack on Titan done better" when it comes to setting up a massive event. AoT Parts 1-3 don’t really build cleanly toward the spoiler event in Part 4, while Shinsekai Yori effectively hints that something huge and catastrophic could happen.
It’s a very theme-driven series, so the characters can sometimes feel secondary. It’s closer to Heike Monogatari in that it focuses more on watching events unfold and reflecting on them.
10/10

But speaking of keeping track of anime references, I do keep track of ones from one very specific anime: Space Runaway Ideon
Not only because Be Invoked is my favorite anime of all time, but because I'm fascinated about its place in anime culture. It was never a smash hit with the general public like Joe (or its older brother Gundam), but it was a big deal to the very specific demographic of nerds that would end up in the anime industry so you can see it being referenced more than arguably more well-known shows
You can find Ideon references in Gunbuster, Diebuster, Evangelion, FLCL, GQuuuuuuuX, Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Space Dandy, Shirobako, One Piece, Urusei Yatsura, Kaguya-sama, Onipan, Astro Note, Puni Puni Poemy, Vlad Love, Doraemon, Your Lie in April, Duel Masters and Aikatsu. Going beyond anime, we can find references in live-action works like Shin Godzilla, Blue Blazes and Donbrothers and games like Xenogears, No More Heroes, Muv Luv, Pokemon Legends ZA (and any other Pokemon thing from now on that features Mega Zygarde) and Needy Streamer Overload.
And that's just the things I'm aware of, there's probably a bunch more all over Japanese nerdy works
Where does it show up in OP?
Oda loves Super Robot mecha, and tries to squeeze references to them wherever he can.
I think we could probably make a guess, though, and it likely lines up with some of the most historically important and popular: Astro Boy, Speed racer, Space Battleship Yamato, Devilman, Gundam, Osomatsu, Urusei Yatsura, Dr Slump, Dragon Ball, Jojo, Macross, Kochikame, Totoro, etc.

Kinda going the other way with Shiboyuugi but it'll be fine as long as the death games are interesting.
Ao no Orchestra is hovering steadily. Maybe I've just gotten used to its rhythm by now.
[](#mug7)
Hoping season 3 finally breaks that trend because catching up on it through episode 4 and I think it sucks so far. Haven't liked a single episode. Really disappointed.
Because thats how I feel with Fate, I love watching it but I also instantly forget everything as soon as the ed ends.
Also Oshi No Ko. Its fun to watch and just super exciting, I get really into it. But I seemingly forget 80% of the plot.
Okay when I read it again I guess I described post nut clarity.
This is why Utena rains supreme. Here's the [super sweet ED](https://youtu.be/mY_4iMQGohk?si=pnb1UlA7fv2IjqJ_) again, which pops into my mind periodically!

Also [another album](https://imgchest.com/p/ej7mvlmmn7d) that's reaction image focussed and sfw. Though a lot of the images in the first album can also be added to this one.

Tbh, and I cannot believe I am about to uther these words, but I enjoyed Spyxfamily more than Wedding rings.

[](#backfired)
But I was pretty vocal about my support of season 1 as well
[](#pout)
> now supporting SpyXFamily
Well, Tales of Wedding rings (and previous SxF seasons) set the bar kind of low.
[](#chinosmirk)
Unless I'm mixing up usernames, but...
Hell yeah, now I don't have to watch season 2; I've seen all that matters!

(Though you should still clip that kiss)

now I have to replace them

And I dont even know what caused this.
But retag me if you do it!
I accept this compliment

~~I would host a rewatch of my favorite horny anime but I'd have to get actual confirmation that it's ok to watch a show that's an H on MAL but not on Anilist~~
