My Mom wants to watch another Anime
So I recently made my mom watched Naoki Urasawa’s Monster last December. She’s been really hesitant on anime, but she absolutely loved Monster so much that she wants to watch another. I honestly never thought I’d get this far and feel like Death Note is my best option right now because it’s pretty safe and matches to same vibe that Monster had.
She also entertained wanting to watch a romance anime, but I know she wouldn’t like the high school rom-com shenanigans. So I’m just curious what sort of drama/thriller or romance you’d think a 49 year old mother would like. Thanks!

Blue Eye Samurai - another great 'non-anime' animated show. Mature vibes with great action.
Your Name (movie)
Ghibli movies (Spirited Away, Howl, Mononoke, etc)
Cyberpunk Edgerunners
As for romance, Nana would probably be my first idea. Only downside is that it doesn't 100% finish the story.
Maybe for romance movies would be better like Josee, the Tiger and the Fish.
Honestly, maybe just go for A Silent Voice or Your Name, even though they are not really romance (but they are drama). Just to see what she thinks about those.
Also I say consider The Apothecary Diaries. That's a bit of everything!
My mother would also really love Oshi no Ko, but YMMV.
Frieren might be worth considering if you want to switch it up from mysteries.
Millennium Actress
Perfect Blue
She kind of enjoyed Gate for the political/social parts, was into Oshi no Ko, and really liked FMA: Brotherhood amd Vinland Saga, but if you want the adlut-ish romances she liked, here we go:
Ice Guy
Recovery of an MMO Junkie
Clannad and After Story (yes its HS but worth)
Insomniacs After School (HS but she liked it)
Tsuki ga Kirei (yes, HS, but very good)
Violet Evergarden
Sing Yesterday for Me
A Sign of Affection
Spice and Wolf
Apothecary Diaries
