The silhouette of Ginta looks like the guy from Cowboy Beebop
SmileyTheSmile2026-01-29 06:54
And I can't figure out if they meant to do that, like:
"There's noooooo way anyone would be able to recognize someone with this bland a silhoue-"
"Spike Spiegel."
"...Who?"
Or it's just a coincidence.
Live-Steaky2026-01-29 06:56
Ya 100% has to be deliberate
SmileyTheSmile2026-01-29 06:59
But like, they kept explaining the jokes in the usual anime way in the rest of this clip. WOULD they have been able to be this subtle?
b0bba_Fett2026-01-29 12:44
Reminder that A. He said *kids* wouldn't remember that kinda silhouette.
B. Cowboy Bebop and Gintama are both animated by Sunrise(Though iirc The Bebop team itself mostly went on to form Bones, so it's unlikely any Bebop staff were involved here)
Exploreptile2026-01-29 05:30
Even here Yamcha catches a stray 😭
JockstrapCummies2026-01-29 05:44
I guess it's really different strokes for different folks, but Gintama's style of parody humour just never lands for me.
Simply referencing things and having a character being flabbergasted and making exaggerated observations on them isn't really that funny.
(Ep 33 of Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure with that absurdly long attack name is one that works, in comparison.)
nirvash5302026-01-29 08:22
It's the Tsukkomi-Boke style of comedy in display here and is very famous in Japan.
JockstrapCummies2026-01-29 08:54
> Tsukkomi-Boke
I know, it's just that the comedic duo model as written in Gintama is nothing compared to, say, what you get from A Bit of Fry and Laurie, That Mitchel and Webb Look, a lot of moments in Konosuba, or even some of the anime abridged series you find on Youtube.
It's not the style that's the problem.
ChuckCarmichael2026-01-29 09:44
Even as a fan, I thought this episode was really exhausting. The guy in green's tsukkomi injections are way too long and annoying. Shortly after this clip ends, Gin also points out that this guy's tsukkomi is too long, so it's on purpose, but being annoying to prove a point is still being annoying (to use a classic internet phrase: Ironic shitposting is still shitposting). It's one of the episodes I mostly skipped through because I couldn't take this guy's constant yelling.
Future_Onion90222026-01-29 12:08
Yeah them trying to smartly calling out straight man doesnt work out when Shinpachi is probably one of the most annoying character in the show.
hijikata or Gintoki being the straightman usually are guranteed gold highlight.
enochlevi2026-01-29 12:03
I really enjoy watching Gintama but I agree, the parody humour never gets more than lil nose exhale in amusement
Afraid-Pick-80402026-01-29 07:28
I agree that Ginta is just a shit design and need some redesign
Wahruz2026-01-29 08:47
Gonna be honest, I know gintama but I just realized I never know what Gintama actual story is....the filler-like story was literally gintama for me.
Due_StrawMany2026-01-29 10:44
The actual plot or any semblance of it happens interspersed between the rest of the bits but initially they introduce characters and factions then have some semi-serious /gags arcs with characters then comedic effects then new arc for new characters and repeat until they get closer to the end when it's all main plot to finish the story, i think Courtesan of a nation arc is where Gintama switches from gags to final saga seriousness, but you have to watch previous arcs to get it.
Nero_PR2026-01-29 15:19
It starts to take a semblance of seriousness with the Benizakura Arc where there are small hints of Gintoki's past, his master, and his involvement in the rebellion. Then little by little more parts or the puzzle are presented and sprinkled throughout the story with new characters and other factions being introduced. It certainly takes a more serious turn with the Yoshiwara in Flames Arc, which has been announced to get the same Movie treatment as the Benizakura Arc.
Old_Ferret_81852026-01-29 23:15
Ngl, I think seriousness starts popping up even earlier with the Umibozu arc with Kagura's backstory and more lore reveals about the Yato etc.

I've only seen bits of Gintama, but here's the impression I got from the more plot-related episodes:
In an alternative universe, back in Samurai times, Earth has been conquered by aliens, as a kind of a metaphor for European colonialism.
Also there is a lot of nonsense going on.
Frankengeek2026-01-29 22:03
Is about Gintoki using the power of curses to find the 7 Dragon Balls, so he can travel to Soul Societyu to find the One Piece, which will allow him to become the Shaman Hokage and save Athena
Aska092026-01-29 11:36
The main character design is too plain when it's literally Kiryu Kazuma
LeloThePGG2026-01-29 12:53
The Jump System joke (and Yamcha being left out) is still one of the funniest bits I've ever seen in Gintama.
And I've cried laughing multiple times in that series.
TheBigIdiotSalami2026-01-29 14:01
Lol Dragon Bozo. More shows need big monkeys
KatiesBerries2026-01-29 14:34
Yamcha shade is part of the multiverse
Vendetta19472026-01-29 15:46
so...... peak
W33B5202026-01-29 15:51
I need to rewatch gintama at some point
KuroBlack413182722026-01-29 18:54
*Shut up* to soshite *die*
Wait what the hell 🤣?
Frankengeek2026-01-29 22:04
I choose to believe this is just an accurate representation of Gintama's editorial meetings in real life
