The OP slaps though, I would like to vote for it in the awar- oh.
I will say, [I had a good laugh at the different designs of male and female cat people.](https://cdn.anisearch.com/images/anime/screen/19/19547/full/533124.webp) Feels very much like the author went "well I only need one of them to be hot."
I'm not exactly a puritan but Ryo is sexually harassing a woman every 4 minutes it seems, and honestly it's both not funny and it feels very "serious" in the sense that he's not really joking.
It's one thing to have a lame pervert character but this man is like borderline coercive in a few of these scenes.
Like, Ryo never really stops being a creep, so your mileage may very, but introducing a foil to his antics just made the show a lot more enjoyable to watch
For Mushishi it's really the atmosphere and the contemplative mushi of the week story. While with Natsume it's Natsume himself and his development/relationships. Besides that it is a bit more light (even though it can be pretty bittersweet) with more comedy and more action than Mushishi that stays pretty calm.
*I love her more and more*
I feel like this correlation shouldn't exist, but it does.

(Funny thing is that it applies to a couple shows this season!)
One of the strongest aspects of this series is its visual beauty - in both urban cityscapes and rural landscapes. The character animation seems a little flat-looking in comparison (though the character designs themselves are quite good).
The precise time period was unclear at the start (just early 1900s). By ep 15, it is made quite clear, WW1 is starting. I have no clear idea as to whether we will see outright tragedy by the end (or just a high level of "bittersweetness"). But this will likely be one of my seasonal favorites regardless.
Have you checked out Prism Rondo?
Do you have half the daily thread muted?
You take that back you…
[](#elsieqq)
I completely disagree you don’t come across discourse of these older shows naturally. If you’re a regular here there’s always plenty of times when something like Princess Tutu or Kuuchuu Buranko, both of which are comparatively older kino, are brought up with such praise.
It does not take much effort to seek out these interesting shows at all. You even said how you scrolled through the MAL seasonal chart and spotted Kyousougiga.
I think this is overall an incurious and dismissive attitude to unpopular works.
Yeah, I saw the *title*. And then immediately kept scrolling because I have no idea what it's about or whether it's good or not. It's one of dozens of anime every season older than the last few years that I know nothing about.
I have far more anime that I might be interested in watching than I have time to watch it. It's not a *bad* thing to add to that list, but it's also not really something I care about doing. If I have 20 things that are recent (or old but influential) enough for me to have a solid idea that I'll like it, why would I put in the effort to try to find something older that I might have a chance of also liking?
[](#hardthink)
I like the title “Jack of all Trades, Party of None” way better than “The Jack-Of-All-Trades Kicked out of the Hero’s Party: The Swordsman Who Became a Support Mage Due to Party Circumstances, Becomes All-Powerful” for a whole list of obvious reasons but that’s a wild change to make on the database without any notes or something.
Also no S2 announcement makes me sad, especially since once again the manga is behind the anime.
Mouryou no Hako is on the eventual to-watch list for the time being, but I’m not finding Chuuzenji-sensei entertaining enough to want to bother with just an alternative version of the same happenings. [Unless of course]>!it’s actually supernatural in nature!<
Thank you in advance.
Have you seen any of these shows? give us a quick rating and an opinion if you so desire!
**Full Metal Panic!** (2002) sci fi
**Campfire Cooking in Another World** (2023) adventure
**Cardcaptor Sakura** (1998) drama
**Noragami** (2014) action
**Charlotte** (2015) drama
**The Witch From Mercury** (2022) mecha
Witch From Mercury was my first Gundam series. I liked most of the characters and the story with its shift from school life to war (something it shares with FMP, interestingly). I wasn't a fan of Suletta and Miorine's relationship though, and it felt like the sci-fi concepts went a little off the rails in the second half. 8/10
I've only read the Cardcaptor Sakura manga, and that was years ago, so I can't really give it a rating. The story didn't stand out as memorable to me, but Sakura and Syaoran were sweet characters. Planning to read the manga again at some point.
WfM was a great modern addition to the gundam library. far from perfect but completely serviceable as a entry point. so thats mission accomplished i think! (i liked it a lot more than Gqux)
I agree about GWitch being a good entry point to the series. It did make me want to watch more Gundam, and I moved onto some of the other standalones like Build Fighters, 00 and IBO from there.
Pretty fun show. Mainly liked it for some of the character dynamics and relationships. I know it's far from finished and I'd probably continue the show if they ever decided to make more of it.
>**The Witch From Mercury** (2022) mecha
Ended up being underwhelmed by this one. Dropped it about 3/4ths of the way through. Great action, but the plot lost me. I couldn't get over the fact that everything important in the world (or worlds I guess) was being taken over by children.
i think thats really fair to say and even mega fans of the MCs can probably agree!
I'm currently watching right now. I found the first couple episodes a bit rough and then it has settled into being mostly enjoyable with some pretty good highs (iirc episodes 4-7 and 15-17 have been my favorites so far). Basically when it is doing more serious and especially the mech stuff I really like it and when it is doing the in between episodes my enjoyment varies.
Nice, looks like we have the same favorite episodes so far! I also love the final arc of season 1 which runs along the same lines.
Judging by your reactions so far, the comedy in Fumoffu may be a hit or miss for you, but TSR and IV will likely fare better because the serious military storyline really takes over in those seasons.
> drama
[Drama?](#sakurathink)
I mean... I *guess*, but that's not the first thing that comes to mind. To me it felt equal parts drama, comedy, and adventure but they're all on the lighter side. Not truly a slice of life in the modern sense but that's almost a more appropriate term to me.
[](#hardthink)
Anyway, 8/10 for the original series and 7/10 for Clear Card, still waiting for the next entry that was announced a few years back. A quintessential magical girl series through and through even without some of the trappings typically found in them, also less focused on fighting compared to Precure and edgier entries that came later. Excellent opening and ending themes too, my personal favorite is [OP3, Platinum](https://v.animethemes.moe/CardcaptorSakura-OP3.webm).
cardcaptor sakura had a major impact on me so i had to include it in one of these lists at some point. thanks for sharing your thoughts. i agree its quintessential!
Literally my favourite show
I have rather fond memories of the first season and Fumoffu was an absolute gem. The Second Raid was significantly worse, and reading the light novels after it completely soured me on the series to the point that I didn't even try watching Invisible Victory.
> Cardcaptor Sakura (1998) drama
Not only is it an absolutely charming show of itself, it's also a really good practice material if you're starting to learn Japanese.
> The Witch From Mercury (2022) mecha
It's nowhere close to the Seed Freedom level of "why the hell does this even exist", but for me it is definitely one of the weaker Gundam shows. The first half is much more interested in being Utena at home instead of its own thing and the second half tries to fit 40 episodes worth of plot into 13.
Noragami was rather fun and the best thing I can say about Charlotte is that it exists.
Summer 2015 was actually when I started following seasonal anime, and I did watch Charlotte as it aired. Of course, that also means I haven't seen it in over a decade, so my impressions aren't exactly the freshest. The main things that stuck with me are [Charlotte] >!I thought the sister's death was pretty sad with the omurice scene, and the MC going after all the powers in the world felt like a huge escalation that resolved just as abruptly!<. I tend to be soft on Maeda, and I'd say I have a generally positive impression of the show, but I'll refrain from a numerical score here just because of how long it's been.
7.5/10 has a little bit of everything - comedy, drama, action. A short, fast-paced story about people helping each other with sci-fi / supernatural flavor. A good beginner anime recommendation.
Authored by Jun Maeda, if I were to rate all his works I've watched or read this one would be around the middle of the list. I'd say it's neither particularly great nor bad at anything it does. I'd like to rewatch it at some point as I'd been quite new to anime medium when I first watched it, plus later on I found out that I missed to watch the OVA episode.
Tomori Nao is probably in like, my top 30 favorite female anime characters. Which might not sound very good but I've seen 500+ shows.
Her voice actress is one of my favorites too with roles like Uraraka from BNHA, Lily from To Be Hero X and Amane Lily from The Foolish Angel Dances with the Devil.
Okay you really got me in the mood to rewatch Charlotte now...
Charlotte is lame and has one of the worst endings ever.
Cardcaptor Sakura however is the GOAT. One of the most charming and beautiful series ever as written with potentially the greatest art direction of any anime.
For me anime dont need to be perfect - tons of shows flop at the very end, just like charlotte did. its part of the medium, really.
I liked the first 2 or so episodes? It probably washes out to like a 4 or 5/10.
i watched Stay Night (all 3 route), Zero, Apocrypha, and Prisma Illya. but i kinda hesitate to watch the FGO because my friend keep mentioning so many Servants, so i think i won't be able to enjoy the anime without playing the game first
[First Order](https://www.livechart.me/anime/2403) is the beginning of the story but then it skips several chapters to the [Camelot](https://www.livechart.me/anime/3439) film duo and then [Babylonia](https://www.livechart.me/anime/3438) and [Solomon](https://www.livechart.me/anime/9852) in order of story chapters.
Solomon's less approachable than the other parts I think as it's the capstone of the entire first part of the game so there are a lot of characters that don't show up in the other anime, and Camelot isn't strictly necessary before Babylonia (though [episode 0 of the latter](https://www.livechart.me/anime/9557) is).
I don't see any problems for Camelot and Babylonia (except for having to watch First Order first, which is kinda extremely mediocre).
For Solomon - I'm not sure, it's basically the Avengers movie of FGO and it expects you to be familiar with all the previous events. Missing them won't really hurt your understanding of the movie, but I'm afraid emotionally it'll feel absolutely flat.
[](#ilovethiskindofshit)
I asked RNG what to start with and apparently it's time for me to get into Mushoku Tensei.
[](#spooked)
Welp, let's do this. I kinda hope I end up liking it, so that I can write another one of those "actually Mushoku Tensei isn't bad at all" reviews to liven up the subreddit a bit.
[](#kotohoops)
Livening up is certainly one of the things it would do…
[](#watashiworried)
No way for me to describe this season other than bad. Some good moments here and there and a solid last couple episodes, but the first 8-9 episodes overall were just awful. Maybe the most infuriating, dragged out, nonsensical arc I can recall in a romance anime. Skipping it honestly feels like it wouldn't cause you to miss much either, which is the sad part.
I will continue on to season 3 at some point since a few people said they felt similar about season 2 but loved the follow up. Hopefully I feel the same, cause normally I would've just dropped this show halfway through this season.
[](#faito)
I also constantly had to suppress this demon inside of me that kept going "the volunteer army wouldn't be having these problems if they just formed larger units and used basic infantry tactics." But the fighting looked good at least.
It's sweet and surgery, has a bunch of fun character dynamics, simple and easy to watch, fun world, pretty nice art style, good overall production... It also doesn't beat around the bush and values inclusivity without feeling performative. Like it's just a wholesome vibe all around.
Gay side couple then haha.
like, this sequence at the beginning of the episode:
https://x.com/silvpokkii/status/2014422196760793100
and this sequence at the climax was slick:
https://www.sakugabooru.com/post/show/298634
i also agree it has super good vibes; all the characters are likeable, even the office grouch
[](#ama)
Specifically in that priority order: not the best show that's also lewd, but the lewdest show that's also good.
(I'm conducting research for important reasons, I swear.)
Mushoku Tensei too but it's more degenerate than it is ecchi.
Second - Interspecies reviewers and nothing comes close.
I'd really expected more from you!
Kill Ka Kill belongs here too but its not even that lewd? I mean sure they are basically always naked but it just seems to be normal at some point, so its not even lewd. (Okay not counting what the disco milf did to her daughter)
i remember rewatching that one while skipping all of the ecchi scenes, and it was a fun few minutes
[](#tomato)
Gushing
>the lewdest show that's also good.
Ishuzoku
(Honorable mention Nukitashi for the latter, but I've said it before, somehow it feels less lewd than many shows even when it's 24/7 fucking).
[](#pout)
Not true. It added "sore demo" several times.
Something like The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent, or maybe Bofuri.
Anyone know of any?
*In the Land of Leadale* could be another. It's hardly quality anime, but if you just want some chill fantasy adventures it can be a nice enough watch.
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is also a consideration.
Deserves a full adaptation.
For Fate, the Fate/stay night Visual Novel is the main story and the anime adaptations of its 3 routes/parts are Fate/stay night (2006), Unlimited Blade Works (2014) and the Heaven's Feel movie trilogy (2017-2020).
Then you got Fate/zero as a spinoff prequel to Fate/stay night that received an anime adaptation in 2011 and is the main source of debates around the watch order.
The main difference with Monogatari is that Monogatari only has great adaptations while Fate has the 2006 anime which is less appealing and cause people to skip it and/or recommends other to skip it.
I get that some people just want to watch anime, but Fate always was a mixed media franchise, about 70% of Fate story you will only find in VNs, LNs and games.
Of course is becomes confusing when people pretend that 70% of content doesn't exit.
It also doesn't help that people refuse to watch the first Fate anime because of its quality, the one that actually tries to explain how shit works.
And for Strange Fake specifically, all you need is to watch the Whispers of Dawn special first (it's basically episode 0 and sets everything up).
Just play the visual novel.
[](#rinkek)
Top 1 beeing Attack on Titon final season part 2 season 2 part 1 movie arc
The issue with fate overall is its an adaption of a VN with multiple routes, so you have to cut and chose and things which get laid out multiple times in the VN just dont get the same screentime in anime. That beeing said the core concept is not complicated ~~its all a hoax to make more magical girls shows go and watch Prisma Illya its the best fate anyway~~ its all battle royal, winner gets a wish. What the actual motivations are etc change with each entry. Mutliple routes are essentially alternative settings, so what is the "clear main canon" is up in the air. The gacha game beeing an insanely big IP by itself at this point does not help.
Monogatari is really simple in comparison. You just watch the all entries.
They dont oppose and exclude each other. For the most part the order is also straight forward. I always recommend airing order out of habit because thats literally how we all had to watch it and thus the most likely experience for other fans and older discussions around the franchise, but apparently some publisher rearranged them to follow the novel airing order and many streaming sites have that by default now. Both are fine. When I rewatch it I always start with Kizumonogatari because I need an excuse to watch it again and again, I literally watch it twice during each rewatch. But you should probably start with Bakemonogatari and go from there.
You need to run! They're going to kill you!
Acting as if the default experience the majority of the fanbase had is *wrong or bad* just doesnt sit right with me, even if now that its more complete there is technically a more accurate one. I just think its braindead easy to go by airing dates. The only entries which really feel out of line are Kizu and Hana.
It's great that the fandom created a *better* order for people getting into it now, but it clearly confuses newcomers since it seems like the only 2 things new people know about the series is 1. complicated watch order and 2. teeth brushing scene. I'm sure one or both of those cause some to hesitate starting it. Especially when they see [this shit.](https://i.imgur.com/wou2r2H.png)
I think Uma Musume Cinderella Grey is on there.
Look Back for an excellent film.
[](#hikariactually)
[](#bigthink)
Amazing rewards these past two weeks, Passione is my hero
It has been two years, but I think this might still be the [episode 3 of heavenly delusion spoiler][wildest sentence uttered in an anime](https://imgur.com/a/M4xN63p), at least when combined with that imagery/context.
Which is quite impressive simply because this is also the episode with the [ep3]>!"REAL babies don't have faces"!< line.
[](#towel)
So good that I might even watch it before my advisor says so u/zairaner
Basically any anime made before 2008-ish that's not super commonly recommended is going to have a low score. I don't know if that's because people can't buy into older art styles, but a lot of the shows I listed are genuinely 9/10 and 10/10 anime.
if i had to pick one, it'd be Yama no Susume (anime of the year every year), but if you're looking for a more recent show, 'Tis Time for Torture Princess is tops blooby
Vanitas no Karte is a fun supernatural alt-history set where a vampire and human society coexist (mostly) in... 1800s France? I think? Around there. I'd say more adventure in genre, it's unfortunately unfinished still.
Milky Subway was the darling of this sub during last Summer, it's a quick little series that you can find free on YouTube - each episode is only 2-3 minutes, but it's some of the most fun I've had with banter in anime.
Megalobox: futuristic boxing anime with a non-augmented boxer continually facing other boxers augmented by various bits of technology.
Toilet-bound Hanako-kun. Basically, what if all these folk legends and superstitions around a school were real? What if there really was a cursed set of stairs, or a teacher really was an immortal being, if a certain set of actions could cause a curse or blessing? All of this set around a love-crazy pre-teen (I think? Maybe?) girl.
Tomo-Chan is a Girl! Romcom, girl was and is a rough and tumble tomboy, but also wants to be recognized as a girl by her childhood friend instead of just "one of the guys."
Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut. Space race between totally-not-the-US and totally-not-the-USSR, with one of the test cosmonauts on the totally-not-the-USSR's side being a vampire. Really good for most of it, though I think the ending suffers from trying to tie everything up in a neat bow and having a "and then everyone clapped" moment I think wasn't earned.
I only see MAL scores (and the like) by accident. The whole concept of giving any value to crowd consensus artistic "rankings" mystifies me. ;-)

What? This is insanity. How is this show so low?
[Shonan Bakusouzoku](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2463/Shounan_Bakusouzoku?q=shounan%20bakusou&cat=anime): 7.63 - Action, Comedy, Drama, Light Romance about a group of goofy biker delinquents doing delinquent shit. Has been rightfully garnering more fans in recent years due to good English subs coming out for the new blurays.
[Giant Robo the Animation: The Day the Earth Stood Still](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2321/Giant_Robo_the_Animation__Chikyuu_ga_Seishi_Suru_Hi?q=the%20day%20the%20earth&cat=anime): 7.80 - Mecha, Action, Drama doomsday story based on a mishmash of Mitsuteru Yokoyama stories and characters.

Some random assortment of great series in that range:
Fuujin Monogatari
O Maidens in Your Savage Season
Shoushimin
Sakura Quest
Sarazanmai
Paranoia Agent
Humanity Has Declined
Heike Monogatari
Eccentric Family
Sonny Boy
Mawaru Penguindrum
(ok, stopping listing because I'm tired of saying "how can it be below 8).
Also here’s google’s version: Kousei Arima, a former child piano prodigy who abandons music after his mother's death causes a mental breakdown, rendering him unable to hear his own playing. His monochromatic life changes when he meets Kaori Miyazono, a free-spirited violinist who forces him back into the spotlight.
22 episodes of absolute cinema, also the first intro is fire.
It can be watched on Netflix, Crunchyroll, and more.
Have fun :3
I liked it well enough but it kinda just missed the tear ducts for me. I felt that the delivery at times just got too hamfisted, and it just felt too obvious to really get at my emotions. HEY! It's SAD TIME! CRY NOW!
Maybe I just wasn't in a crying mood then. The OP theme is absolute fire though, love me some Goose House.
I feel like am very likely going to catch up on all the manga volumes once this season is finished because I've heard equal levels of praise for that as well.

>If this new GitS is similar to it in that respect then I'm very interested.
At the very least, if it's anything like the manga (which is how it's been advertised so far), then you're gonna be a lot less surprised than people who have only seen the movies.
The best way I can describe the manga is like the lyrics of the 95 movie played to the beat of Dominion. But I'd be surprised if Saru don't make some changes (and I think they should).
