Fate/Prototype and Fate/strange Fake connection

I apologize for asking this, but I've been out of the loop for quite some time. Years ago, I watched a YouTube video about Fate/Prototype and really enjoyed it, but I was disappointed to discover that it never received a full anime adaptation. Recently, I've been seeing videos about Fate/strange Fake. Is Fate/strange Fake a proper anime adaptation of Fate/Prototype, or are they completely separate series? Will we ever get a full adaptation of Fate/Prototype?

not seems it is.

I mean fate Prototype is that for a reasom wendont even have an actual story. The LNs are a prequal to the short anime but besode that it has no story and i doubt nasu wants to finish it.

Fate/Prototype is a reworked version of the original idea for Fate/Stay Night, the latter being the first entry in the franchise to be commercially published. [As far as I can tell](https://typemoon.fandom.com/wiki/Fate/Prototype) the OVA is all there is to it currently (aside from a *prequel* novel series Fragments of Sky Silver and its own side story Fate/Labyrinth), there isn't more material to make a "full adaptation" from.

Fate/strange Fake is its own spinoff novel series getting an anime adaptation now, though it references a lot of other parts of the franchise including Fate/Prototype.

My understanding is that FSF is a reimagining of the Prototype's Sayaka. They are not thr same characters.

I doubt Prototype will get an adaptation based on an anecdotal observation of the popularity of the Prototype light novel

n080dy1232026-01-29 19:23

The other problem is the LN, Fragments of Sky Steel, isn't actually Prototype. It's a PREQUEL to Prototype, starring Ayaka's older sister. It is to Prototype what Zero is to FSN in a lot of ways, including there being lingering shit from Fragment's war interfering with Prototype's.

CommentStrict89642026-01-29 19:49

Ah I see. So it's not even that.

It's unfortunate that we keep getting rent a girlfriend anime adaptations instead of actually interesting IP adaptations.

notatoaster002026-01-29 18:23

It's a separate series. What you're referencing in terms of Strange/Fake is basically just a big reference to Prototype because Narita is a super Fate fan. So unless Nasu ever revisits Prototype, which is likely 0% because he has Mahoyo and Tsukihime Red Garden on his plate and Prototype was always just the first rendition of Stay/Night, Prototype won't get any further material. I doubt there's much more concept material of it left out of our hands too to be honest.

zackphoenix1232026-01-29 23:27

Nasu can always just hand over prototype to another one of his writer friends like Sakurai or Higashide, just hopefully not Urobuchi.

notatoaster002026-01-29 23:29

Woah true I mean but why the hate on my dude Urobuchi.

zackphoenix1232026-01-30 00:43

Urobuchi has a specific style of writing that I'd rather in other works not Prototype, lmao. My heart cannot take what horrors Urobuchi would put Ayaka through.

notatoaster002026-01-30 00:55

Ah alright. Personally I like Urobuchi's works like Madoka, Psycho pass, Fate Zero etc. I think there's a bit of an element that the theatrics he does make quite a compelling plot. As for Prototype, honestly, given the way Manaka is presented I feel like she'd be a very Urobuchi character. I even get Kyubey vibes from her.

Delisches2026-01-30 09:12

Uro needs someone to hold the reins or the story devolves into pure sufferporn and Nasu isn't that type of person. He only stepped in one time because of somthing releated to Sakura that was too much even for him lol.

It works for a story like Zero but I can't imagine that working for Prototype.

MokonaModokiES2026-01-29 18:26

completely different.

Narita the writter of Strange Fake is just a massive fan of all the Typemoon works and inserted references to everything they ever made which includes Prototype.

However there is a complete prototype story. A prequel written by Hikaru Sakurai. Currently it has no anime adaptation. Its a light novel with a manga and CD drama(Audibook) adaptations.

Herokirim2026-01-29 18:30

This is my opinion. As someone else has pointed out, Prototype is ... A prototype from FSN. Fate Strange Fate is (in my opinion) a spin-off sequel of El Melloi Cases. They are related? As FSN, Hollow Ataraxia and El Melloi Cases are with Tsukihime and Mahouyo... I mean, all of them are developed in the same universe, and continue the story of the Grail War in one way or another.
Also, as the same comment pointed out before me... There is not enough material to do a full adaptation of Prototype... But if Type-Moon wanted, they could hire someone else to write a full length story, since (in my understanding) Nasu doesn't want to write more about it.

Herokirim2026-01-29 18:31

By the way... Never apologise for making a question, it doesn't matter how stupid sounds to you or anyone else... There is no such thing as a stupid question.

An April Fools joke from 2008 that got way out of hand!

n080dy1232026-01-29 19:22

Sompletely different, in spite of the female protagonists sharing a name.
