Shadow Star Narutaru, but it's not remotely as good as Takopi.
Shimmering-Sky2026-01-29 18:19
You might like Bokurano (the manga is even *more* dark, but the anime still has plenty of dark moments in it).
PolvoAranha2026-01-29 18:20
Madoka Magica.
cienderellaman2026-01-29 20:21
There was only ever one recommendation.
Hooked13G2026-01-29 18:33
I heard that Made in Abyss is also pretty messed up
Lodju2026-01-29 19:13
Trauma porn with incredible scenery and mysterious world.
DaemonsMercy2026-01-29 20:20
Eh, not really porn I don’t think, but parts are certainly sexualised
Lodju2026-01-29 20:25
"Trauma porn" doesn't have anything to do with sexualization.
It just means that the anime is full of traumatic scenes.
DaemonsMercy2026-01-29 20:26
Oh? Never mind then :P
Thoraxe4742026-01-30 02:15
There is a lot of sexualization too though. Unfortunately of children.
LookyPeter2026-01-30 05:08
I wished they made a second season sigh
Getoff-my_8allz2026-01-30 05:39
It's not TPN, they have made a second season.
CrossHeads2026-01-29 18:37
evangelion if you haven't watched it yet or you can read pun pun if you don't mind reading
invaderpixel2026-01-29 18:37
"Orange" kind of has some similar themes, more of a shoujo vibe for the artstyle and involves some time travel.
Wastelandrider2026-01-29 18:46
Aku no Hana (Flowers of Evil) doesn’t have the same stakes as Takopi but is comparable for being a deeply unsettling and artful exploration of psychological darkness
Interesting_Math76072026-01-29 18:57
I have read another manga from the same author called Inside Mari
First-Variety7142026-01-30 18:10
Their manga "Blood On The Tracks" left me feeling so fucking hollow, I've never wanted to stop reading a manga at multiple points just because it was so dark, but it was also so beautiful and so well written I had to finish it.
Fitzel1112026-01-29 18:46
Not an Anime but Oyasumi Punpun
DestroyedArkana2026-01-29 18:49
Erased.
chum-guzzling-shark2026-01-29 18:49
Grave of the fireflies is the classic recommendation
Over-Republic70482026-01-29 18:57
if you liked Takopi, try Devilman Crybaby, Made in Abyss (looks cute, absolutely isn’t), Serial Experiments Lain, or Texhnolyze. none of these are “fun” watches tho, fair warning 😅
No_Durian_69872026-01-29 18:57
Elfen Lied
Devilman: Crybaby
aaa1e2r32026-01-29 19:08
Koe no Katachi/A Silent Voice is a solid movie, if you want in the similar tone and themes as Takopi
WiteXDan2026-01-29 19:23
Look around in manga world. I have seen all anime recommended here, but the closest despair to Takopii I got from niche psychological mangas that covers stalking, bullying and generally just daily life.

Monster,Paranoia Agent (Mousou Dairinin),Erased (Boku dake ga Inai Machi), When They Cry – Higurashi / Umineko son muy buenos ✨
Kiriijou2026-01-29 20:55
As an important heads up, **for OP** and anyone else who might be interested in watching Higurashi When They Cry (Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni), make sure you start with either: the [2006 anime](https://myanimelist.net/anime/934/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni) (and it's [second half Kai](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1889/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni_Kai)), the original visual novel, or the manga adaptation.
The 2020 anime Higurashi When They Cry: New (Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni: Gou), is a sequel to the original story, not a remake. **Don't accidentally start with Gou**, as it's full of spoilers.
Also, Umineko When They Cry's anime adaptation only covers the first half of the story. For the full experience, you'll need to read either the original Visual Novel, or the manga adaptation.
(_Note: in most (if not all) regions, the only Higurashi anime on Crunchyroll, is Gou. Also, the original Visual Novel is currently available on Steam, under the title"Higurashi When They Cry: Hou", with the first arc being free to download. Umineko's Visual Novel is also available on Steam._).

Bokurano, boogiepop phantom, Welcome to the NHK, Ergo Proxy
GaaraSmith2026-01-29 21:13
Devilman Crybaby
LavishnessRepulsive62026-01-29 21:59
Narutaru is very close
Yotsubato2026-01-30 11:59
Yes but it was probably one of the worst paced anime I have ever had the displeasure of watching
Megabuster9000002026-01-29 22:06
If you want something a little more fun but still pretty dark at times there is The Monogatari Series
turkeygiant2026-01-29 23:12
maybe try Boogiepop and Others, or the Garden of Sinners movies
Broad-Connection-5892026-01-30 00:42

I'm going to make a suggestion without having seen Takopi's Original Sin. Based on what I heard about the series, I think at least adjacent to it is Orb: On the Movements of the Earth.
It is dark, both story wide and literally.
It goes over some heavy and taboo themes, at least from one particular group, maybe not from today's point of view.

I can't think of anything as bad as takopi in regards to the plot so I'd recommend you watching some yuri because that's what it is in the end, just a bad yuri
Plerti2026-01-30 10:11
Not an anime but a videogame (Although I think it has a manga?): Omori
Bubbly on the exterior, really dark underneath. Very similar vibes to Takopi. It's a light RPG that plays more like a visual novel than anything.
