which you can literally learn the answer to in the first episode.
imtherealdazza2026-01-29 19:16
ahem, first episode will answer that in **bold letters**
IntroductionRare52712026-01-29 19:16
Got it thanks, I'll circle back to it when some more episodes are out lol
Aliensinnoh2026-01-29 19:17
This clip will answer your question.
IntroductionRare52712026-01-29 19:18
You never know when so many series do 1 step forward 3 steps back lol
I could probably find a rent a girlfriend clip with similar context, it's entirely why I asked
TheBusStop122026-01-29 19:21
Rest assured, these kids don't know how to step back. This train seems locked in high gear. Any misunderstandings are minor, realistic and solved quickly through proper communication like actual real people. It's spot on for an actual healthy relationship
IntroductionRare52712026-01-29 19:25
Yeah I just googled and saw the author was a girl so I'll definitely check it out.
Japanese dudes from my experience cannot write a romance lol
DueSeaworth2026-01-29 19:44
I don't know where you've been for the past five years when literally the majority of seasonal romance has been a diabetes fiesta.
Kinda miss the spice ( not like RAG tho )
TheBusStop122026-01-29 19:20
Let's just say there's only a few episodes out, but this clip isn't new
ClemFire2026-01-29 19:24
You'll get the answer in the first episode, but slow burn romance is just as much romance as stories that move quicker
cppn022026-01-29 19:48
Did you watch the clip?
TheEVILPINGU2026-01-29 19:13
She's just too cute..
I would also highly recommend reading Yancha gal no Anou-san if you are looking similar main duo dynamics with multiple romantic pairings.
RPO7772026-01-29 21:32
Also, Ramparts of Ice is phenomenal, by the same mangaka Agasawa Kocha. She wrote Ramparts and Polar Opposite parallel to each other, and Ramparts is getting its own anime adaptation in Spring 2026.
Gabriels_Pies2026-01-30 16:56
One of the reasons I like Polar Opposites so much is because of how fast they get into the relationship. Just quickly reading up on Yancha Gal (only looked at some synopsis') it seems more like Dont tease me Nagato which I absolutely hated. Which would you compare it to more?
bachotebidze2026-01-29 19:19
Gotta love a romcom with supportive characters.
Paks-of-Three-Firs2026-01-29 19:19
Him realizing he'd said something insensitive was what made me realize this show had heart.
That's like a normal human reaction
RPO7772026-01-29 20:53
Tbh, for me, that was one of the most relatable moments in this episode lol.
F\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\* what did I say????
ClemFire2026-01-29 22:59
So many times male supporting characters in romance aren’t given this type of consideration. It’s only one line but it makes me reconsider all his previous actions
Guilty-Tell2026-01-30 15:16
Yamada is a great character you can look forward to his developement.

Stark sama, it's that you (the voice sounds way too much similar)

I see 'stark sama' and I read it in ferns voice... Idk stark sama:s voice though...
Medical-Efficiency-62026-01-29 20:28
He's actually voiced Aki from Chainsaw Man! (not Stark's VA, but Tani's)

The friends being surprised but not in a mocking way is wonderful.
I'm tired of the opposite
Beat_Saber_Music2026-01-29 21:33
Also they're essentially like "how are you so direct about your feelings?" rather than "you have feelings for him?"
Low_Weekend61312026-01-29 19:28
Reminds me of Saiki k and Teruhashi
bongmitzfah2026-01-29 19:30
This and inexpressive kashiwada last season are the perfect blend of both roles being gremlins and statues lol
Hitman71282026-01-29 19:32
Barely under the 5 minute limit for clip posts for this sub (why it cut off abruptly at the end).
That aside, I was told to watch this by some friends, and I think I'm sold. Plus, my Sundays are empty at the moment with seasonals.
Sad_Medium_58662026-01-29 20:33
A recommendation that is also airing on Sunday: In the Clear Moonlit Dusk. Also a romance anime so Sundays are now romance themed for me.
Fools_Requiem2026-01-29 21:00
If you want more on Sunday, check out **Journal with Witch** and **Kaya-chan Isn't Scary**. Kaya-chan is just okay, but Journal is fighting hard with this show for best non-sequel of the season for me.
Hitman71282026-01-29 21:10
If it helps, I wrote about which seasonals I am watching: https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1qf9fjm/comment/o03y9ss/
Couple changes though are I should have added Watanare: Next Shine on there as 10/10, and I gave the recent Cosmic Princess Kaguya a 10/10. Though my thoughts on the shows I have there have not really changed much since writing that comment.
ClemFire2026-01-29 22:07
I believe if you like Marin you will like Suzuki from Polar Opposites. The show just really makes you feel like you are her
-Work_Account-2026-01-29 19:33
I really love this show, and the dub has been amazing.
ClemFire2026-01-29 19:35
As a huge romance enjoyer I knew after this sequence that Polar Opposites would be my favorite new show for the season. It is just crazy how expressive Suzuki is, seeming to not change expressions with every frame as a teenager in love. It all just really makes you feel like Suzuki, and each episode has brought up my mood. She reminds me a bit of if Marin was the MC of Dress-Up and if you love that show like I do then I believe you will definitely enjoy Polar Opposites
Kirosh22026-01-29 21:12
Gals are a very powerful force of nature, which is why people love gals.
ClemFire2026-01-29 21:50
I feel a big part of their appeal too is despite at first glance looking like typical popular girls they both super down to earth and take the time to notice the positive aspects of their crushes that most would fail to pick up on. That just makes them feel so genuine.
Auctoritate2026-01-30 07:45
Nahhhh, the ones that are very superficial and bratty are also extremely popular.

Gabriels_Pies2026-01-29 19:55
I liked this one so much that after watching the first episode I read/caught up to the manga. Definitely worth it.

This anime is a polar opposite to normal animes . this speed of romance
Fools_Requiem2026-01-29 21:02
[Episode 1 Spoiler]>!There's handholding in the first episode.!<
Not even Tonikawa accomplished that.
ne0pandemik2026-01-29 20:06
I honestly love this show, the main couple is stupid cute and the modern slang used is very tumblr-esque in a charming way.
jus_plain_me2026-01-29 20:36
> saying how I feel out loud was this easy to do?
Bruh, I've been conditioned by decades of anime to think that bleeding a stone would be easier at this point.
This scene is precisely why anyone who likes romance should insta pick this one up.
dagreenman182026-01-29 20:38
It’s just nice when you don’t have to proselytize for a series because people have already caught on to its glory. The manga is peak. The anime is peak. Praise be!
blamordeganis2026-01-29 20:40
One of my all-time favourite confession scenes.
CrimeFightingScience2026-01-29 21:05
Is it worth a watch? I was considering watching with my very real girlfriend.
Tough-Invite-1812026-01-29 21:06
Judging by this clip hell yeah
bravetailor2026-01-29 21:54
It's cute. It doesn't reinvent the wheel but if people like cute romances, this is the definition of that.
kalirion2026-01-29 22:51
One of the top 2 new shows of this season for me (Journal with Witch being the other one), so yes.
Ordinal43NotFound2026-01-30 00:23
Absolutely. The series is legit a life-lesson for interpersonal relationships and healthy communication.
zenoob2026-01-30 02:45
It's worth the watch, and then rewatching. Multiple times.
RuinedSilence2026-01-29 21:16

Ok_Law2192026-01-29 21:36
Lots of misunderstanding, just essentially equal amounts of communication.
tehcharizard2026-01-29 21:45
I feel like across all the romance anime I've seen in past few decades I can count on one hand where the canon couple are actually together within the first couple of episodes and I love it every time. When I watched this it instantly became my favorite non-sequal of the season.
theDaninDanger2026-01-29 21:46
Great show, but I think the dub is actually much better for an English speaking audience. Here's the timestamped scene in the free first episode on youtube. It makes much more sense to me: [https://youtu.be/O4yNrGkDbpo?t=1079](https://youtu.be/O4yNrGkDbpo?t=1079)

The fucking squeaky hammers when she’s running slow in the hallway send me every time.
Was really worried about this show as someone who reads the manga. So glad they’re nailing it every episode.
justforkinks01312026-01-30 00:02
this show hits hard
Comprehensive_Dog6512026-01-30 00:21
This show in particular is very good, but in this new era of romance shows I’m starting to get concerned (given the sentiments I see on this sub) that the focus will now be on the speed of confession before writing a compelling couple and giving us a reason to root for their relationship. If a romance doesn’t have any misunderstandings or everything is resolved too quickly, then you also end up with a show that has little dramatic weight or like Kaoru Hana, where the characters are so stiff that you start to question their relationships .
Prof_Acorn2026-01-30 09:17
Other kinds of conflict are possible.
Asking someone out is like 0.1% of a relationship, yet that's where most anime stories are and even with that most of them are copy/pasted clones.
Anything is better than yet another fireworks festival confession that happens in the last minute of the last episode.
Comprehensive_Dog6512026-01-30 13:42
I didn’t say that asking someone out is the only kind of conflict?
Prof_Acorn2026-01-30 14:27
You said
> I’m starting to get concerned (given the sentiments I see on this sub) that the focus will now be on the speed of confession before writing a compelling couple and giving us a reason to root for their relationship. If a romance doesn’t have any misunderstandings or everything is resolved too quickly,
First of all, misunderstandings should be clarified within a single day, at most, because it's only a simple conversation to clarify them. It's one of the worst clichés in romantic fiction to have long drawn out misunderstandings, and always always always feel contrived if they aren't resolved the next literal time the two characters talk.
And second, why does there need to be any period of time at all before a couple gets together in order to "root for them"? Can't readers/audiences root for them when they, e.g., deal with nervousness over a first date, work through disagreement, work through different love languages, deal with past trauma, deal with family, strive together through job loss, work through a pregnancy scare, deal with external pressures, maybe both of them planning a marriage proposal without the other knowing, the wedding, the early stages of marriage, getting past the honeymoon stage, learning about the other when you have to live with them, dealing with busybody mothers in law, getting evicted, having the newborn die of complications, having another child start school for the first time, etc etc etc etc etc?
There are already 1x10^9999999 *will-they-won't-they* stories that have been told.
I can only think of... three (?) anime where they start dating within the first few episodes, only one where they start at friends, date, then get married and have a baby before the end of the series, and only... three (?) where they have sex instead of being absolutely terrified of physical intimacy like it's some scary disgusting evil thing only for perverts.
It's possible I'm ignorant of hundreds of others, but I'm not really seeing what you meant by "this new era of romance". It's not an era. It's a handful of outliers in an endless ocean of *will-they-wont-they* cliche. So you have nothing to worry about.
Comprehensive_Dog6512026-01-30 14:37
My point was that I hope that the speed of getting together in this new era of romance shows doesn’t become the be all end all, and the focus is still on writing a compelling couple. Particularly, I’m concerned that because we have been so inundated with slow burns, people will be grabbed by the speed of the romance and discount the rest. And in the past few years there’s been a trend of couples getting together in the first few episodes, so yeah it’s not the outlier it once was.
Actually I agree on the misunderstandings part, I used a wrong phrase, I was thinking more along the lines of conflict. Especially for high school romance, I highly doubt that everything is so smooth and sunny, people are still figuring things out and I want to see like actual arguments portrayed, which was my actual grievance with Kaoru Hana. Everyone is too nice for lack of a better word, to the point where it feels like they’re walking on eggshells yet it was like the most hyped romance in its season.
Ordinal43NotFound2026-01-30 13:34
Thankfully this series actually goes in depth about navigating a relationship through proper communication and understanding. Handles themes like \[minor spoilers\]>!ex jealousy, meeting parents, and needing distance!< in a very refreshing and healthy manner
Even then, this show still has a slow burn ship that's a fan favourite who's also expertly developed dealing with themes like \[spoilers\]>!attachment issues, hookup-to-hookup mindset, and severe insecurity/anxiety!<.

The original Japanese vocal work is good, but the English dub is absolutely spectacular. Both the translation scriptwriting (the blond girl gets to say "NOICE" in that one scene, which is hilarious and gives her character) and the vocal work, with whoever is doing the central protagonist having to do so much vocal acrobatics to scream, growl in a deep register, state things stately, put on a southern accent, blurt words out fast, and more while switching between all these different states frequently.
