Not sure how this went by me. I know what I'm watching tonight!
Kazuma_Megu2026-01-30 19:46
I think it was on HiDive so a lot of people missed it. Nothing against HiDive, they carry some great shows, but their catalogue is seriously dwarfed by Crunchyroll.
ImJLu2026-01-30 02:27
It really is. Easy 9/10. I'm not really a big fan of crude humor but this was genuinely funny and batshit insane, but also clever and well-written from a drama standpoint while keeping just the right amount of levity.
To me, it's the kind of peak fiction that wouldn't work outside the anime medium, and it executes it brilliantly.
Animatrix_Mak2026-01-30 03:43
Was this a one off anime?
Boxxy40692026-01-30 03:47
Yup. Original content. Cygames decides to make a gem like this every now and then.
timonten2026-01-30 22:31
this was made by CYGAMES !?
ahses32022026-01-29 23:01
Akiba Maid War definitely flew under the radar, but it's episodes were consistently wild to watch.
iOttoman2026-01-30 00:10
this scene makes me want to watch it alone to be honest
JEveryman2026-01-30 01:18
If you haven't seen it it's definitely worth it.
AshieSmashie2026-01-30 02:09
You won't regret it. Honestly an amazing show.
Kaellian2026-01-30 02:35
It's absurd, filled with dark comedy, but also genuinely good moment. Definitively worth a short if you regularly watch anime. There is nothing quite like it.
Lot of great gags too
Emi_Ibarazakiii2026-01-30 06:46
> this scene makes me want to watch it
People who say that are usually talking about a certain scene in episode 1 hah.
ProfessionalRandom212026-01-30 00:16
its didnt flew under the radar, it just wasnt really good. just random for random sake
ahses32022026-01-30 00:37
Some episodes felt very random in that there wasn't really a plot it was following. It was very episodic until about episode 8.
Emi_Ibarazakiii2026-01-30 06:47
Not everything is random, Professor Random!
WhoWantsToJiggle2026-01-30 00:52
so underrated. it had everything. action. humor. maids. you know. really would recommend it
MALESTROMME2026-01-30 02:27
You had me at "maids".
BosuW2026-01-30 06:33
And a complete and self contained story
biskutgoreng2026-01-30 03:40
Suddenly gun???
Manisil2026-01-30 17:03
Nah its pretty much all guns all the time.
Asd_892026-01-30 06:14
It was my show of the season and the year when it came out. An great surprise to watch.
TheWastelandWizard2026-01-29 23:02
This brought me back to a lot of those classic 80s and 90s OVAs, where it was just batshit insanity and whatever they wanted to do. It was a great show.
scottyhood2026-01-29 23:02
...why did she shoot her?
Jesse-3592026-01-29 23:13
Haven't seen it, but it look like 'What if Akiba were run by the Russian Mafia - but they don't sell drugs and guns, they just run Maid Shows?'
Solracziad2026-01-30 00:48
Well, more the yakuza but you're pretty much right.
xrufus7x2026-01-29 23:14
The concept of the show is "what if maid cafes were violent gangs constantly feuding over territory." The girl on stage is trying to bring peace. The one shooting everyone is decidedly not about the whole peace and understanding thing.
GallowDude2026-01-29 23:18
> The concept of the show is "what if maid cafes were violent gangs constantly feuding over territory."
\>implying that's not reality
TuzkiPlus2026-01-30 01:17
Wait, this show is a documentary?
Repulsive_Past_5482026-01-30 01:31
Always has been
TheWastelandWizard2026-01-30 02:17
Taken to the absolute extremes, but 80's and 90's were wild times.
ImJLu2026-01-30 02:29
The canon years it takes place in intentionally line up with the rise of maid cafes and moe culture so...maybe, yeah, who knows?
cheesechimp2026-01-30 00:18
This is literally the climax of the final episode of the show. There's a whole season's worth of animosity between these two characters that this clip doesn't capture.
Accurate-Annual30072026-01-29 23:06
this show was absolutely amazing ngl, very underrated
absolutedebauchery02026-01-29 23:07
insane show with an even more insane ending. Akiba Maid War is fantastic watch if you’re ever bored. it’s short too, 12 episodes.
1000-MAT2026-01-29 23:12
Just when I thought I'd seen it all in anime and nothing could surprise me anymore, I watched this one...
Kaellian2026-01-30 02:37
In recent years, Under Ninja is the only show that rivaled Akiba Maid in term of black comedy and weirdness. Wish we had more unique take like this.
Pecuthegreat2026-01-30 12:34
Yeah, still reading the manga.
Kaellian2026-01-30 16:19
How is it? I only watched the anime.
nigglamingo2026-01-29 23:16
It’s funny, I was just thinking this morning “what is the most anime anime I haven’t seen?” Welp.
ImJLu2026-01-30 02:28
It's exactly that kind of thing that wouldn't work outside of anime, except it's actually novel and good.
Kazuma_Megu2026-01-30 19:48
I dunno, a well-done live action version of this show could be incredible. Very difficult to pull off, though.
Kazuma_Megu2026-01-30 19:48
Symphogear definitely falls under that umbrella as well.
Emotional_You_52692026-01-29 23:21
What the heck am I watching?
timonten2026-01-29 23:22
peak ( albeit the last scene of the last episode of it )
Ritsuka-san2026-01-29 23:46
[That is nothing compared to this lol](https://youtu.be/coACUdlVVlo?si=rJTwPRxELO9FoM4_)
Knee_High_Cat_Beef2026-01-30 00:20
Don't forget about the preceding scene where a junior maid had to cut her pigtail off for bringing dishonor to the cafe.
CharuRiiri2026-01-30 03:20
The gunshots to the beat are super satisfying but... is that wotagei??????? Holy peak I need to watch this now.
Manisil2026-01-30 17:07
Just for context, this is the first episode
timonten2026-01-30 22:29
\* last episode
all_ready_gone2026-01-29 23:51
Imagin a noir gangwar movie becomes a cute anime....
QYXB122026-01-29 23:44
Such a perfect bittersweet ending.
OverallPepper22026-01-29 23:58
Was a great show.
Born_Message58772026-01-30 00:13
Does she and/or maids did in this? Seems sad.
Dog_in_human_costume2026-01-30 00:18
what the fuck did I just watch...
Mad_Aeric2026-01-30 00:42
One of the final scenes of a *very* good series. If you watch it, you'll find yourself asking that question repeatedly throughout it. It's a wild ride.
nosolovro2026-01-30 00:27
A masterpiece
Adventurous-Exit58322026-01-30 00:36
Its missing the best part!
ReeeeeeAndClear2026-01-30 00:44
Such an awesome anime. Wild to the very end
SpiritJuice2026-01-30 00:45
This was actually my favorite show that year. I went into the first episode with zero expectations and was completely confused by the premise until about half-way through that it finally clicked: it's just a parody of yakuza clans but as maids. As someone who loves the Yakuza game franchise, I instantly fell in love with how insane the show was. Super fun and worth a watch. I had to convince some friends to give them a try with "Just watch the first episode. I won't say anything more. You'll understand why I like it." Such a fun, absurd show.
mumbly-joe2026-01-30 01:07
it's also a neat play on the idea of entertainment/hostess clubs being mobbed up/yakuza-controlled: what if they WERE the gangs actually?
kreegor662026-01-30 01:05
this was my anime of the year 2023
Zealousideal_Bee_2412026-01-30 01:16
WTF DID I JUST WATCH!? Is this like a parody or something I’m missing? I need context please
ImJLu2026-01-30 02:35
Parody of the entire yakuza/mafia genre, but a damn well executed one that's good not just because of the things it's parodying
1000-MAT2026-01-30 02:45
This is the most normal part, take a look at this: https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/s/gnAdemPWcQ
Evil-Empress-Sakuya2026-01-30 01:23
Adored this anime. On the other hand, it pissed me off. Worth the watch.
CommunistPuppy2026-01-30 01:26
People throw around the word "underrated" a lot when they usually mean "underwatched", but in Akiba Maid War's case, I believe it actually is underrated (according to MAL's 7.58 at least). This show takes the most insane, nonsensical premise and unapologetically delivers on that premise. It sticks to its guns (literally) and doesn't try to be something it isn't. Not to mention, being an anime original made the weekly watch all the more exciting as there was nobody to spoil the experience.
BigBear_same2026-01-30 01:47
I’ve only seen this re-edited, I don’t know if context even really helps though…
tapdancinghellspawn2026-01-30 02:17
Akiba Maid War is not for the faint of heart. I loved it very much but by the end, I was hurting. Favorites were killed off or crippled.
LousyGoose2026-01-30 02:24
Everyone talks about how this series just has one amazing premiere episode and don't get me wrong it's a brilliant first episode but I felt it was a solid show throughout. I loved the finale and this scene in particular, it captures the wonderful absurdity and even a bit of genuine emotion I felt for the show overall.
AlexandruDavid2026-01-30 02:53
underrated anime, was actually kinda good even if kinda strange at the same time
worried_alligator2026-01-30 03:35
This show was a surprisingly good watch.
jkphantom92026-01-30 06:26
I binged this a few years ago. Definitely one of the shows where it just gets crazier every episode. If you haven’t watched it yet, please do so, it’ll be worth your time.
Emi_Ibarazakiii2026-01-30 06:44
Ranko, my beloved!
Wait, somehow she's not in this scene.
[](#bigthink)
Love the way her voice cracks when she starts singing again... And the girls crying as they try to keep the cheers going, knowing full well they might all get gunned down minutes from there!

Cute gangsta frfr
LeonKevlar2026-01-30 10:35
Still one of the best anime originals of 2022. It's absolutely hilarious, but by the end of it, and I'm not even joking when I say this, I was heartbroken and hurting from it. This show is why I always give anime originals a shot, especially when CyGames are involved.
OrangeLightning2352026-01-30 11:41
What the actual fuck?!
SnooHamsters33002026-01-30 12:16
This is wholesome. Thanks for the recommendation!
Pecuthegreat2026-01-30 12:33
Should have included the part where her henchwomen got tired of her and shot Nagi dead.
ActrixQuadras2026-01-30 12:39
I really adore Akiba Maid wars. It was such a wild ride
